Original plans for 13 had Bret v Shawn for the title (Bret has confirmed this), .Rocky v Mero, Austin v Bulldog and Mankind v Vader (Foley has confirmed).

Who knows with Taker. Maybe they still do the Sid match just not for the title. Owen is left out of a big match as well. I'm trying to remember tv around that time to find who he could have worked

I would assume it was probably going to be Taker-Sid without a title. Sid fits the mold of the opponents Taker fought in that stretch and as much as I love Owen, it would’ve felt like a stretch for him to feel like he had a chance vs the Undertaker in 94-96, let alone 97 when he had really been pushed to the side as midcard ceiling act.

Though your point was no obvious opponent for Owen, not necessarily Owen-Taker, and I agree. Ahmed was destined to fight the Nation and the only other person in a relevant spot in the card I’m thinking was Sultan and there is no way we would’ve had an Owen vs Sultan match.

Flash Funk was already dead in the water, but you give Owen and Scorpio 8-12 minutes in the opener and they put on a hell of a match.

They were already sort of hinting at a possible beef between Rock and Mero on TV, and I kind of wonder how all that would have played out if not for Mero's injury. They were even kinda starting to give Sable some character development. I doubt the Sultan ends up making the show without Mero getting hurt.

Austin-Bulldog makes me wonder what becomes of the tag belts. Do they still keep Owen and Bulldog together? I have a hard time seeing Owen have no involvement on the show, even if it's getting fed to Shamrock as said above. I assume he would play into the Austin-Bulldog match somehow as well

The shitty four-way tag is the title match. They pull the trigger on Furnas and Lafon for maybe two weeks before they drop the belts there. Only other scenario is Owen vs Bulldog as champions against each other at WM, then Austin and Shamrock have a big brawl third from the top.

Did Vince McMahon get the idea alone to have HHH retain the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania 16, or did someone else give Vince that idea?

That was a weird one as Nitro didn't even really bother covering it. I don't think Gang even made it on a Nitro unless it was a mass DOD run in segment. Then a few weeks later they mentioned on commentary some dude named "Konnan" beat Gang for it on a C show and a rematch would happen at SuperBrawl. One wonders why Konnan's win wouldn't have been saved for the PPV.

The Apter mags did an article on the Gang/Sasaki match and I believe they even questioned the circumstance of the Dusty finish.

OMG getting a US Title run in '95 was so baffling. Not even taking into account that he won it in what was essentially a screw job (I think NJPW assumed it was a dark match and non title change). I'm assuming NJPW would have been fine with Sasaki doing a job to Konnan too so I wonder what whole point of that transitional run was?

Looking at Cagematch, OMG only made one Nitro appearance. Jobbing to Hogan, of course. Typical early Hogan era WCW to have him squashing one of his old WWF buddies main eventing over a World and Tag Team Titles changes.

The match that was taped had the match getting restarted somehow and Sasaki retaining. They cut that part out when the match aired on TV

Just by watching WCW stuff, I remember hating Kensuke as a kid. He seemed, for the lack of a better word, overpushed compared to a lot of other WCW guys. He didn't have a cool look or seemed that exciting, yet was always in a match that is in a kind of important spot on the show. Thankfully I watched most of his puro run after and appreciated him. But, tbf to Kensuke he didn't really put it together fully until around 2000 when he got the new look.

The internet told me I should hate Kensuke because of his WCW run so I did for a while.

Which future TSMer does the Gooker pull over the rail?

Gooker is way more enjoyable with a hammered Lord Alfred enjoying the shit out of it instead of coked up Piper pretending to have fun.
Lord Al is a delight on these house shows. Just having a blast bullshitting through exciting matches like Jim Powers vs Steve Lombardi and Hillbilly Jim vs Honky Tonk Man.

Never seen this clip before. I LOVE how emphatically pissed off early '90s Gorilla got at annoying undercard heels. He'd always get wound up by Skinner too. He must've fuckin' hated those two's Survivor Series '91 (then again did anyone LIKE that team? @BruiserBrody ? Worst SS team ever). I can't believe Iron Sheik was on roster of #1 promotion in the world in non nostalgia role all the way up until '92. He'd proven to be unreliable and more burnt out than a pan of burnt bacon almost a half decade earlier!

Edit: This has got to be one of the worst MSG cards ever, outside of the top two matches (which admittedly feature four of the GOAT)

WWF @ New York City, NY - Madison Square Garden - December 29, 1991 (matinee) (11,000)
Televised on the MSG Network 12/31/91 - featured Gorilla Monsoon & Bobby Heenan on commentary; included an in-ring promo by Col. Mustafa & Gen. Adnan in which they insulted Sgt. Slaughter:
Prime Time Wrestling - 2/3/92: Davey Boy Smith pinned the Berzerker with a small package at 5:05
Prime Time Wrestling - 2/3/92: Sgt. Slaughter defeated Gen. Adnan & Col. Mustafa in a handicap flag match at 3:27 by pinning Mustafa with a clothesline; after the bout, Slaughter led the crowd in saying the Pledge of Alliegence
Prime Time Wrestling - 1/20/92: Hercules pinned Greg Valentine by lifting his shoulder out of a back suplex into a bridge at 7:44
Prime Time Wrestling - 1/27/92: The Nasty Boys defeated the Bushwhackers when Knobbs pinned Butch at around 9:45 with a clothesline; after the bout, the Nastys continued to assault their opponents until Sgt. Slaughter made the save
Prime Time Wrestling - 1/27/92: Skinner pinned Jim Powers with the reverse DDT at 6:51
Prime Time Wrestling - 1/20/92: Chris Walker pinned the Brooklyn Brawler with a flying bodypress at 4:02
Virgil defeated Repo Man via disqualification at 9:35 when Repo began choking Virgil with his rope
Prime Time Wrestling - 1/20/92: WWF IC Champion Bret Hart fought Ted Dibiase (w/ Sensational Sherri) to a 20-minute time-limit draw at 19:06 as Hart chased Sherri around ringside and into the ring; late in the bout, as Dibiase had Hart in the Million $ Dream, Sherri ran over and rang the time keeper's bell which resulted in the match pausing until referee Earl Hebner ordered the match to continue; after the bout, Dibiase attempted to attack Hart with the title belt but was clotheslined to the floor
Hulk Hogan defeated Ric Flair (w/ Mr. Perfect) via count-out at 10:09 after ramming Flair's head into the ringpost on the floor; after the match, Flair jumped Hogan from behind but Hogan fought him off and sent him to the floor (Hulk Hogan: The Unreleased Archives)

You talk a tough game @King Kamala but we all know you would geek so hard to have Sarge lead you in the pledge.

Afterwards you would turn heel on him by showing your true colors as a SOCIALIST though...

It's good company to be part of. Don't you want to be in a group that includes Sgt. Slaughter, Jamie Dundee, Crowbar, and Andy Kindler? Eh...I guess I see what you mean now...

As one who has purchased nearly 100 vintage house show dvds and reviewed barely 20% so far, I'll go with that card doesn't look all that bad compared to some in 84/85 that were designed to be a slag to sit through so 2 or 3 main event matches seemed awesome in comparison and kept people buying tickets to see the stars.

At the very least, the match lengths are palpable and no one booked Moondog Spot to go 13 mins with Cousin Junior. *Shudders*
