I'll leave it to Gary to post the full results, but The Rhythm Section opened to just 2.8 million, the worst opening EVER for a movie in more than 3000 theaters.

Woof

I love that the people who thought Bad Boys would bomb without Michael Bay are eating their words now.

So 5 of the 9 Best Picture nominees this year have grossed over 100 million domestic (or will after this week for Little Women). That’s pretty damn good, and 2 of the remaining 4 were Netflix films with limited theatrical windows so hard to gauge their success. Parasite is a foreign film with 35 million domestic and way more worldwide, another hit. Only Jojo Rabbitt had a small domestic gross.

Will Ferrell is box office poison these days. The Daddy's Home movies did good more because Mark Wahlberg is a draw than him. The House, Holmes and Watson, and now Downhill have all done terrible. Even as bad as Sandler's comedies are they still make a ton of money.

Birds of Prey may be a bust but it has a chance to match its production budget of $85 Million if it can hang on in theaters for another month or so. For comparison, Shazam! had a $100 Million budget and made $140 Million domestic by the end of its run. The idiots who decided to not just name this Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey at the start should all be fired, what inept marketing.

Call of the Wild seriously needs a push to not be a bomb considering its $125 Million budget (I heard the dog was fully computer animated...).

Not only was the dog computer animated but I think most of the set was greenscreened. At that point, why not just make a CGI movie instead of having old bearded Harrison Ford grumble to a some Cirque De Soleil performer in tights with ping pong balls strapped to it for six months?

I went to Call of the Wild this past weekend and yep, it felt VERY heavy effects not just with all of the dogs, but the background as well in many facets. The film felt in ways like it was one greenscreen scene after the next? Was it done well? Kinda, but it seemed obvious how heavy with CGI it was. I get they were attempting to humanize all the dogs, but I felt they went a little too far with it.

Based on a few reviews I read, The Hunt sounds like quite an obnoxious movie. Not surprised to see it bomb as even before the coronavirus, most movies trying to make a political statement were bombing bad.

The Hunt looked questionable and gross before the first time they delayed it. I had said in here before I was surprised when I saw they were trying again and it feel in another bad time for them.

Expected numbers to be low, here is exactly where it falls

Box office numbers have not been this low since the Sept. 15 to 17 weekend in 2000, when movie theaters brought in $54.5 million from holdovers including Keanu Reeves’ psychological thriller “The Watcher,” “Bait” with Jamie Foxx and cheerleading classic “Bring It On.”

I kinda wanted to see "The Hunt", but 1.) my theater didn't get it, and 2.) even if it was I'm not risking my health.

I'd joke about "Bloodshot", but then I remember Vin Diesel has sequels for "Riddick", "xXx" and even "The Last Witchhunter" in the works
