This isn’t necessary but you should probably write something. I’ll re-post the write ups and rotations in the matchup threads (the tournament starts Monday, more info in the original thread)

will we able to provide specific strategy/rotations for each series? I get doing a basic write-up, but I think rotations will differ based on the matchup. A strategic explanation of why you're picking that rotation would make sense imo.

was thinking of that hmmmmmm

My only issue with this is that when someone submits something first, their opponent can counter their strategy. It only works if the matchup specific write ups are PMed to someone. Seeing as I’m in the tournament, it wouldn’t be fair to get my opponent’s matchup specific write-up. Unless we can get someone outside the tourney (maybe @HarleyQuinn?) to assist? 90s John Stockton style?

you could do it for every matchup but yours, and find an assistant to the commissioner to take care of your match. But yeah, I Like the PM idea.

Not really sure how to do a write up over this. I just figured if we were getting matched up each poster would have a take on why their team is better and would win.

Starting lineup:

C: Shaquille O'Neal
PF: Bill Laimbeer
SF: Dennis Scott
SG: Kobe Bryant
PG: Isiah Thomas

Bench:
Toni Kukoc, SF/PF
Clifford Robinson, SF/PF/C
Rod Strickland, PG
Allan Houston, SG
Antonio Davis, PF/C
Steve Kerr, PG/SG
Terry Mills, PF

I feel like this team is capable of playing any style. Isiah Thomas led two championship teams in a grind-it-out style, but also showed that he can excel in an up-tempo game, as well. He did lead the highest-scoring team in NBA history, after all. And Orlando Shaq could run the floor with just about anyone and finish strong. Kobe is still very young, but blossoming quickly, and this group of vets will bring a fire out of him like we haven't yet seen. Double-team at your own risk, and the threes start raining down. Teams with this much shooting are going to rule the league in the future. The 90's aren't ready for us. You've been warned.

SF: Larry Bird/Cedric Ceballos

PF: Derrick Coleman/Terry Cummings

The majority of the bench minutes will go to Fat Lever, Larry Nance (both at C/PF) an Terry Cummings. I also wanted to get guys on my second unit with some similar skills as the starter they would replace.

Starters:
C: Hakeem Olajuwon
PF: Dennis Rodman (SF)
SF: Dan Majerle (SG)
SG: Reggie Lewis
PG: Jason Kidd (SG)

Rotation:
6: Tom Chambers, PF
7: Sean Elliott, SG/SF
8: Damon Stoudamire, PG
9: Dale Davis, C

Specialists:
10: Vernon Maxwell, SG
11: Kevin Duckworth, C
12: Brent Barry, SG

Play style is similar to the mid-90's Rockets. Suffocating defence and playing through Hakeem on offence. Everyone on my roster except Chambers and Stoudamire is a strong and active defender. We give up no easy shots and anyone driving on Hakeem and Rodman will get beaten up in the post.

Hakeem will draw double teams with shooters around him to space the floor. When Hakeem sits, so does Kidd and we play a more uptempo game with Damon/Reggie/Chambers causing havoc with their pace and driving ability. When we need to big in crunch time, Chambers plays PF, Rodman slides to SF, Majerle to SG and Reggie to the bench.

For the last shot, Hakeem is option 1 and Majerle is option 2.

Starting Lineup:
PG: Mark Price (can also play off-ball as a 3-point shooter)
SG: Michael Jordan
SF: James Worthy
PF: Shawn Kemp
C: Rik Smits

Main rotation players:
PG: Nate McMillan (defensive specialist who pairs with MJ to make a vicious defensive backcourt)
SG: Ricky Pierce (6th man, main bench scorer)
SF/PF: Robert Horry (will likely be on the floor during crunch time, moving Kemp to center)
PF/C Kevin Willis

Everyone else:
SF/PF: Tom Gugliotta
PF/C: Elden Campbell
PF/C: Sam Perkins (may get more run in certain match-ups to stretch the floor)

Obviously, the offense is running through Jordan, and my other guys shouldn't have a problem deferring to him. Kemp is the other main guy I want to get touches, as he's a matchup nightmare for most. Other than Smits, I feel like my team can get out and run. I have good guys coming off the bench to help with defense, outside shooting, and position flexibility.

Not much to write up here. Not the sexiest team on paper, but tons of talent without a lone scoring alpha so there’s plenty of ball movement and everyone will get theirs. I also think I have the strongest bench.

Didn’t pick any specific years to go on anyone. I feel like saying “I want this guy, but only want one year represented” is another way of saying they weren’t really shit the rest of the 90’s.

@MFer I feel like Horry would have to be on the court in crunch time due to his propensity for clutch shooting. Outside of Jordan, he was maybe one of the most clutch last minute shooters in the NBA in the 90s. I could easily see teams getting beaten by trying to double team Michael and MJ just dishing it to Horry not unlike Paxson or Kerr for a winning 3 point shot.

Starters:
PG: Penny Hardaway
SG: Mitch Richmond
SF: Eddie Jones
PF: Horace Grant
C: David Robinson

Bench:
PG: Terrell Brandon
SG: John Starks/Mario Elie
SF: Derrick McKey/Anthony Mason/Mario Elie
PF: Kevin McHale/Anthony Mason
C: Rasheed Wallace/Kevin McHale

Offense revolves around Penny, Mitch and Robinson. Eddie and Horace fill the gaps with defense and in the case of Eddie Jones, 3 point shooting. I tried to build a squad that can mesh and not get in each other’s way. Penny and Robinson got the two man game going. They complement each other because Robinson isn’t a prototypical post player. The two can play a lot of pick and roll, and Penny can hit him in space. Mitch Richmond is capable of playing with ball dominant point guards named Hardaway. And when the shot clock is about to expire, he’s a player that can take anybody one on one. Horace Grant will allow David Robinson to eat by cleaning the glass and taking on the toughest dude on the opposing frontline, though David himself is one of the best defensive players ever. Grant is also efficient, and can hit the mid range J. He and Eddie will make teams pay for focusing on the big 3. Eddie is a great defensive wing who will also stretch the floor.

Off the bench I got Terrell Brandon for instant offense and penetration. John Starks and Mario Elie for outside shooting and perimeter defense. Anthony Mason brings an all-round game with an emphasis on passing and defense. Kevin McHale for easy buckets and Rasheed Wallace as the consummate team player, providing what needs to be provided (post offense, post defense, glue guy). Derrick McKey is my best defender off the bench. He may end games at times, depending on who is playing small forward for the opposing team.

Obviously my team is set up to run and gun straight from the start, playing defense on centers isn't really optional. My goal is to make everyone else's big men as tired as possible while my team fills it up. I feel like there's no way to guard players like Shaq or Hakeem unless you actually have Shaq or Hakeem, but I did draft good defenders for my bench that can stop the players at other positions. Obviously the offense is running through Magic, Petrovic, and Wilkins getting the ball and pushing up the court as quickly as they can.

I am no good at write-ups but I figured I would at least give a desired rotation with minues allotments:

Rotation (Starters Listed First)
PG: Tim Hardaway (23 min)/Kenny Anderson (22 min)/Hornacek (3 min)
SG: Hornacek (20 min)/Jim Jackson (15 min)/Kendall Gill (13 min)
SF: Bernard King (18 min)/Mashburn (18 min)/Gill (8 min)/Brian Grant (4 min)
PF: Malone (24 min)/Brian Grant (9 min)/Jayson Williams (9 min)/Tyrone Hill (6 min)
C: Daugherty (28 min)/Hill (13 min)/Jayson Williams (7 min)

I guess my overall game plan would be to have someone fresh on the court at each position the entire game. I think the team is pretty well-rounded overall, maybe bit weaker on the defensive end but Daugherty (and Mutombo) were probably the only non-Big 4 centers that could hang with them down low, so I think he is a real asset. I wouldn't say that there are any stand-out defenders but several of these players were more than adequate on that end so I am not too concerned on that front.
