Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

Linares might've retained the title without that perfect punch to the liver. I think he deserves a rematch if he wants one.

I agree. I wish he pounced on Lomachenko in round 7, after the knockdown the previous round cause Loma was a bit hesitant for a bit after that till he got his second wind back. The cards were pretty close after 9 too (they had a draw).

Yeah, I had Linares 86-84 entering the tenth.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

I thought Gassiev would win but it did not surprise me that Usyk won as he looked excellent against Breidis.

With that said, I'd still have about half a dozen boxers comfortably over him.

Usyk also barely beat Breidis.

I would rate Golovkin, Lomachenko, Spence, Crawford, Sor Rungvisai, and Joshua as being better.

Canelo, too. I've watched more boxing this year than I have in years and years. As someone who is used to judging MMA and kickboxing it has been interesting getting used to judging fights in boxing.

I'm probably going to try to become a judge next year. Have been considering it for a long time.

That's cool.

I've thought about trying to get into reffing for some local kickboxing orgs.

He’s beaten better opponents than Crawford, fights everywhere, and other than great power is the total package in the ring. His stamina is insane. I don’t think the other guys can fight on the road like he does.

So close. I'm not mad at the decision but I thought GGG won. Announcers seemed biased in favor of Canelo.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

GGG won the damn fight. It was 12 rounds of HBO guys being fascinated that Canelo was doing better than the 1st fight. Canelo was doing better early in the fight than he did the first time around, but GGG rallied and eventually pulled away.

Not to mention a judge giving Canelo the 12th is assanine.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

People remember the rounds GGG won more than the ones Canelo won but they still score the same. I'm going to rewatch and make another judgment but I think it's only going to cement my opinion that GGG won it.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

Based on immediate memory, I had it even through six. Then GGG started landing combos and seemed to rock Canelo good each round from that point out. Canelo did most of his best work in the first few rounds.

I didn't watch it but the opinion seems to be solidly behind GGG winning the fight. There's a lot of talk about crooked judges helping Canelo win.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

Rewatched it. 115-114. I feel dirty giving Round 1 10-10 so if I had a gun to my head I'd go Canelo. That would make it 114-114, draw lol.

Announcers sucked. Seemed biased in favor of Canelo early on. GGG did better early and Canelo did better late than I had initially judged.

I'm glad they'll be forced to fight again so I don't give a fuck like I should give a fuck. That was fun.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

This is weird cause I've wanted him to lose this title for a long time, but not like this. After Adonis Stevenson got knocked out earlier he is now in critical condition. Brutal sport.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

The two big boxing matches in recent memory that got me hyped were Canelo/GGG and Fury/Wilder and both end in screwjob draws.

To update on the Adonis thing, he has a severe TBI and will likely be a vegetable for the rest of his life.

What I read says it's still too early to comment on long term health. TBI isn't a good sign, though.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

Loma is just too good. The combinations he was hitting Pedraza with in the 11th looked like Roy Jones Jr. stuff.

Dogboe got beaten up by Navarette, too. Probably should have been stopped but he hung in there.
