Watched that world concert on CBS Saturday night. The highlight was The Rolling Stones performance. Charlie Watts had drumsticks, but air-drummed the whole song You Can't Always Get What You Want". It was awesome!

Charlie Watt isn't that great a drummer anyway.

Had no idea Johnny Cash almost played at Lollapalooza. That would have been a mindfuck.

Random fact that moderately surprised me: Foo Fighters have never had a Top 10 pop hit. They've only had three Top 40 hits ("Learn to Fly", "The Best of You", "The Pretender"). I guess for all of the success that they've had on rock radio for past 25 years, they really don't get a lot of crossover play on pop radio.

Late '90s was my peak of Top 40 listening and I remember "Learn to Fly" was a decent sized but not huge hit (it peaked at #19, which seems right). This fact also speaks to how segregated radio has become in last 30 or so years, that one of the hugest bands in rock during that period can barely have impact on pop charts.

Krist Novoselic wouldn't have been my first guess into which grunge legend is secretly MAGA.

Is he still holding office in Seattle? Because that's how you lose your seat in a blue zone.

Spotify is getting on my fucking nerves with these goddamned Daily Mixes. First of all, I don't like to have my playlists segregated by genre: I'm subject to want to transition from R&B to rock, to J-pop, to gangsta rap, to metal, to funk, to neo-soul, to EDM, at a whim. I don't want an all-rap or all-rock playlist, damn it!

Second of all, how is this algorithm determining what it recommends to me? "We see that you liked songs by P!nk and Jamiroquai, so we think that you'll like these songs by the Cocteau Twins and the Sugarcubes!" Huh?

I did not.

Graves has made a career out of saying, and doing, dumb shit. There is not a single person or band that I've heard who's worked with him and wants to do it again.

He quit the Misfits a handful of times and, each time, Jerry welcomed him back. Doyle had enough of his attitude and will never work with him again.

Gotham Road, his damn good post-Misfits band? They broke up because Graves' attitude cost them gigs. He claims his being a conservative punk is what did it, but considering the cancelled European tour is why he's making this claim, and European punk and metal bands regularly use Nazi imagery and aren't all about anarchy and socialism, I'm calling absolute bullshit.

He guested on Summer's End's first album and the band's original drummer, who became their vocalist, went on a long-winded diatribe back in the MySpace days about how much he hates Graves on every conceivable level.

Fuck you, Mike. You pompous fuck.

Hate to break it to ya, but Jerry Only has made small donations to the Trump campaign.

Graves being a prick shouldn't be a shock but I'm actually pretty perplexed at Only donating to Trump. Didn't see that coming.

Don't think this warrants a thread but Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green passed away. He left the band before they got really popular so the newer generations have no idea who he was sadly but wrote some damn good stuff in the band's formative years.

Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac is frigging great (as great in its own entirely different way than the Buckingham/Nicks era) and a very underrated influence. I don't know if there's an Aerosmith without them existing and no Aerosmith, no hair metal. Judas Priest also covered them.

One of Pops Kamala's favorite topics of conversation is how much better British Blues Rock era Fleetwood Mac is than California pop rock era Fleetwood. Of course, Bob Welch era Fleetwood Mac that bridged the two rarely gets mentioned outside of classic rock nerds. He was the one who saved the band by convincing them to move to California and he didn't even get inducted with them to RRHOF. SMDH.

Anyway, that's not the dead Fleetwood Mac frontman we're talking about here. RIP Peter Green.

There should be a Fleetwood Mac thread anyway, but I think this thread should be dismantled into its own topics anyhow.

Rhiannon is one of the few songs with a name in it that doesn't immediately annoy me if it comes on in a public place. Pretty much all the rest of the more well known ones (Beth by Kiss is another safe one) illicit obnoxious reactions from every Sarah, Amanda, etc.. in the crowd.

Jeremy and Daniel don't get out of line when their songs come on.

I always thought "Don't Speak" was about her insecurity in him actually telling her she's a dick and that's why they're breaking up. Adding in totally alienating the band AND filming a video with them all about how she's the draw and the band are meaningless. Fleetwood Mac kinda shit on a different scale.

This could be it's own thread....but it was clear from their very first video that Gwen was going to be the sole star of No Doubt. I'm actually surprised she didn't break out on her own sooner than she did. Even after she (sorta) blew up with Eve's "Let Me Blow Your Mind" she stood by her band (though they were pretty much background characters by that point).

The band itself died after Tragic Kingdom. Then it was just those guys with Gwen.

I'm not sure about that. They were very much still a cohesive unit when Return of Saturn dropped in '99 though the signs were there. By the time Rocksteady came in '01, they were definatley "The Gwen Show co-starring...".

Gwen's romance with Gavin Rossdale didn't help things.
