What are your favorites? I've watched god knows how many over my life, so I'm hoping I'm not entirely alone. Good or bad. I just always see them as the final part of a released track.

Sometimes there's calmness in a total fucking mess of a video. Peak '80s barf and it's great. The guy looks uncomfortable the whole time, the girl looks trashy, the sheik with the eyebrow never fails to make me burst into laughter. Song's a perfect example of pop music at the time. Best kind of bad.

I could spam this thread with a ton of music videos, especially Bjork's stuff but I'll stick with just one (for now). I discovered this via LOGO Channel's Music Video box programming like 5-6 years ago and it just struck a chord with me with its old 20s Flappers era vibe coupled with the over the top dark morbid antics.

Yes. This is why nobody should take black metal seriously, no matter how many churches are burned or people get stabbed.

This was my shit when I was 15 or so. Pretentious, artsy, weird imagery, catchy, ominous tits, crucified monkey. I badly wanted everything Reznor wears in this video, and it's a blessing I didn't. I wanted to be the kind of person who could think this shit up. I am glad that never quite happened. It also got me into Francis Bacon for a bit.

This is technically cheating because it's kind of a (very well made) mash-up of the original videos and various appearances. I think it's great because it makes the song feel huge, an epic. It's got all the Kate Bush weirdness one could have without having her in the room. Also happens to be one of my favorite songs. Woman is a kooky sexy witch, and this shows it more than one could want.

Mike Myers is annoying as shit. It's another video to make Madonna look sexy as she aged, and it works. She'd been around for, what, fifteen years give or take? That's forever. She looks good, though. I love how every pop video of the late 90s has the exact same color palate. It's just so comforting to me. Video's simple, makes her look good, promotes Austin Powers, and just hits all points it's going for. Song isn't bad but not great. Earworm, though.

Keep the teenage lesbian exploitation. We got us attempted sexual assault and graphic violence. Gotta give whoever their handlers were for maximum exploitation over the years. I didn't even know they existed after...2003? Song's not great.

The music video for "Take On Me" still gets almost a half million views on YouTube PER DAY!

Glad people still love watching Norwegian synth poppers get chased by old timey motorcycle thugs in the year of our lord 2019.

A Netflix series based on the music video for a-Ha's "Take On Me" please.

That's still probably top five ever, too. I see it maybe once every five or so years, just because it still is everywhere, and it's still awesome. Norway knows how to do shit right.

Liz was and remains beautiful, and this video is just perfect early 90s. It has all I could ask for. That whole album is great, btw.

You weren’t around when “We Are Golden” was the unofficial theme song of the Danny Maff chat, were you?

Not in the chat, but I remember it on the board vividly. It's how I even know that song exists, and I still bust out laughing.

Kirsty MacColl was so good. Video's so beautifully English. Top shelf song.

So top shelf, here she is performing it with Lemmy.

I once had this blog where I thought it would be interesting (if only to me) to follow both rock/pop videos and country videos by the year. It fascinated me how MTV had these by and large well-produced and laid out videos, while country had none of those. Country videos were always five to ten years behind. It went like that until maybe 2000 when they finally caught up. Always just interested me how out of touch they were, though.

That said, even country thought Britney was dope.

This is a pretty subversive video by 1993 standards. It's like Adbusters magazine brought to life! You know, when I was a kid and they mentioned a band called "10,000 Maniacs" on Clarissa Explains It All I had an idea of what a band with that name would sound like and this is not it. But this song is a bop.

Kreese showed me this a while back and it's become one of the coolest videos I think I've seen. New favorite version of the song, as well. The Ken Russell directing is really obvious and that's awesome, just because I never would've expected Ken Russell and Jim Steinman to work. I love it.

As someone forced into growing up with mid-'90s radio country dominating my childhood, I got a massive share of Garth. Everyone did to an extent, I guess, but it felt like ground zero. A big part of why I got so into music videos was because of that era, honestly. This was something totally different than anything at the time in country videos. I don't know how I feel about it now (it's okay, I guess) but when it first came out my mind exploded at the visuals. The 3DO of music videos. It's even got those smoldering, emotional Garth faces.

The late 90s-early 00s had this run where big pop songs got country versions, for some reason. Had to be like when you had Pat Boone doing Little Richard way back. The country versions always invariably sucked pretty bad (Mark Chesnutt's cover of "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" just never resonated, for instance), however this is just...fine. The video, though. It's transparently, unapologetically trying to be Nsync for the middle aged, almost to the point of satire. It feels like the total cash grab bullshit record label thing it is, and everyone looks uncomfortable and ready to bust out laughing.
