copied from my Facebook:
I recently purchased a blu-ray “complete” set of an Mtv series I enjoyed as a teen. It was a moment of keepin up with my friends also sharing pictures of their copies. Due to rights issues, the show had previously only been released to home media in an “edited” format, but this release promised completely intact episodes.
Upon first viewing I thought two discs for six seasons, even Blu-ray Discs, seemed brief. Then upon looking at the menus, I had a sudden disdain for how amateur hour they were, looked like the default setting on a 2007 DVD burner.
I ran all of these complaints by a very knowledgeable friend, one of the more researched media people I know. Theory I was given: “dude, it sounds like a bootleg.” We discussed it some more, my friend stayed firm, I tried to keep my optimism.
Reviewing season two last night erased all doubt. The channel watermark in the bottom corner was not an MTV logo on the one episode, but a later entry did have the proper logo. It changed every few episodes.
So looks like my friend is right, the “King Turd” collection of “Beavis and Butthead” is a bootleg. That I couldn't find it on Amazon should have been my first clue, but a friend gave me a link where he got his copy and it looked legit.
(Still got all episodes uncut! Though there's some recycling of music video segments might be part of original presentation, though)
