ROUND 1 - 90s NBA DRAFT TOURNAMENT:

MFER VS OG

24 HOURS TO VOTE

HERE IS THE RUNDOWN:

MFER

Starting Lineup:

PG: Mark Price (can also play off-ball as a 3-point shooter)
SG: Michael Jordan
SF: James Worthy
PF: Shawn Kemp
C: Rik Smits

Main rotation players:
PG: Nate McMillan (defensive specialist who pairs with MJ to make a vicious defensive backcourt)
SG: Ricky Pierce (6th man, main bench scorer)
SF/PF: Robert Horry (will likely be on the floor during crunch time, moving Kemp to center)
PF/C Kevin Willis

Everyone else:
SF/PF: Tom Gugliotta
PF/C: Elden Campbell
PF/C: Sam Perkins (may get more run in certain match-ups to stretch the floor)

Obviously, the offense is running through Jordan, and my other guys shouldn't have a problem deferring to him. Kemp is the other main guy I want to get touches, as he's a matchup nightmare for most. Other than Smits, I feel like my team can get out and run. I have good guys coming off the bench to help with defense, outside shooting, and position flexibility.

VS

OG

Starters:

C: Hakeem Olajuwon
PF: Dennis Rodman (SF)
SF: Dan Majerle (SG)
SG: Reggie Lewis
PG: Jason Kidd (SG)

Rotation:
6: Tom Chambers, PF
7: Sean Elliott, SG/SF
8: Damon Stoudamire, PG
9: Dale Davis, C

Specialists:
10: Vernon Maxwell, SG
11: Kevin Duckworth, C
12: Brent Barry, SG

Play style is similar to the mid-90's Rockets. Suffocating defence and playing through Hakeem on offence. Everyone on my roster except Chambers and Stoudamire is a strong and active defender. We give up no easy shots and anyone driving on Hakeem and Rodman will get beaten up in the post.

Hakeem will draw double teams with shooters around him to space the floor. When Hakeem sits, so does Kidd and we play a more uptempo game with Damon/Reggie/Chambers causing havoc with their pace and driving ability. When we need to big in crunch time, Chambers plays PF, Rodman slides to SF, Majerle to SG and Reggie to the bench.

For the last shot, Hakeem is option 1 and Majerle is option 2.

Voted for MFer. I actually think OG has a deeper/better bench but I feel like MFer's starters can all score 20+ in the right circumstance whereas Rodman just isn't enough of a scorer for me to comfortably push OG ahead. I do think Elliott/Stoudamire could combo to match the scoring of say Ricky Pierce but I think this would come down to the final few minutes and having Jordan + Horry slightly pushes MFer ahead.

Sorry, OG.

I voted OG, hard to go against MJ but The Dream would dominate, Rodman's rebounding and defense is immensely valuable, and I believe Reggie would have been a top 5 NBA player during his career.

This was a really, really tough call.

MFer has a lot of big bodies to throw at Hakeem, but despite having MJ I feel like his team could be stronger on the perimeter, like maybe one of those F/C spots could have been another big playmaking guard or wing player and it would make a world of difference. Someone like a Majerle or Brent Barry, for example, who are on OG's team. Oddly enough, OG has kind of a similar dilemma; suppose Hakeem gets into foul trouble, I'm not sure I'm real confident with Kevin Duckworth as my next best option for post scoring.

An obvious move here would seemingly be to have Rodman guard MJ, but the question then becomes what you do with Shawn Kemp. You can't really put a smaller guy on him, and you also can't really put another of the bigs in there on him along with Rodman because you'd lose too much offense. I think I might make some more time for Vernon Maxwell in this matchup. Kenny Smith has said in the past that Max is one of the few guys who could get under MJ's skin. Possibly move Majerle to the bench as the big cog for the second unit, so you get a nice mix with Kidd's playmaking, Maxwell's shooting, and Lewis's well-rounded scoring attack.

At the end of the day, as hard as it is to go against MJ, OG's team is just more well-rounded with more matchup possibilities, and he gets my vote this round.

I hate voting against Jordan but I really like OG's squad. I suck at write-ups but I think his bench is a bit deeper and losing offense with Rodman isn't as bad with a big time scorer like Chambers coming off the bench. MFer has a lot of front court depth but I think with Olajuwon and Rodman defending down low, they can neutralize Kemp and co. and keep Jordan out of the paint, which also means he can't drive and dish to Price or another shooter. It's always tough to vote against Jordan but I went with OG.

I went OG as well. Jordan is no doubt the best ever. But I like the other team and bench better.

OG has Olajuwon, Mad Max, Thunder Dan and Rodman. Hakeem gets my automatic vote but showing love to Vernon seals the deal.

I voted MFer. It's not just Jordan. Worthy and Kemp are great scorers, plus he still has a decent front court waiting on his bench. Hakeem is a GOAT, but the scoring threats after that are led by Majerle and not on the level of the first three from MFer. I don't think the rest of OG's defensive/rebounding advantages make up for that, personally.

Jordan with that level of help, idk fam

I think MFer’s team offensive fire power has an advantage over OG’s defensive squad because of the layers to their offense. You can run with Worthy and Kemp. Pick and roll between Price and Kemp. Pick and pop with Rik Smits to bring Hakeem out. And of course Michael Jordan. I think OG’s team has a strong defensive identity but I don’t know if they have enough offense. There isn’t a true second scorer (Reggie Lewis and Tom Chambers maybe)

Alright guys, so with 5 minutes left, unless something dramatic happens, after a tough battle between two teams led by the multi-time 90s champs, OG will advance to the next round.
