We are just 11 days from opening kickoff for the 2021 College Football season! Some decent matchups on 8/28 including Nebraska/Illinois and Hawai'i/UCLA. On 9/2 we have Temple/Rutgers, Boise State/UCF, East Carolina/App State, Ohio State/Minnesota, and Bowling Green/Tennessee. Then Friday 9/3 we have UNC/Virginia Tech, Northern Colorado/Colorado (HC Ed McCaffrey's debut at NC), and Michigan State/Northwestern.

Finally Saturday we have several marquee games including: Penn State/Wisconsin, Miami Ohio/Cincinnati (for Hawk), Alabama/Miami, Louisiana/Texas, Texas Tech/Houston, LSU/UCLA, BYU/Arizona, and Notre Dame/Florida State.

Sunday 9/5 we have Deion's Jackson State vs. Florida A&M on ESPN 2 at 3 PM ET/12 PM PT and Eddie George's Tennessee State vs. Grambling State on ESPN+ at 4 PM ET/1 PM PT.

Any LSU fan complaining about this should remember that their old coach used to eat grass during games and they happily accepted that.

Hawai'i looked like ass and got curb stomped by UCLA. Scott Frost continues to struggle at Nebraska as Illinois beat them, which is more proof that Frost seems like he's trying to force a square peg into a round hole there on both sides of the ball. He should have tried making Nebraska into a dominant downhill running team but he's trying to make them into UCF 2.0 without the talent (Adrian Martinez is no McKenzie Milton) or weaker opponents.

Indiana State knocked off Eastern Illinois 26-21 behind 3 turnovers and NC Central sailed past Alcorn State 23-14.

A lot of blowouts but UCF stormed back to beat Boise State 36-31 after being down 21. RB Isaiah Bowser ran for 172 and 1 TD.

We had 2! FCS wins though with UC Davis beating Tulsa 19-17 behind QB Hunter Rodrigues' 311 and 1 TD while Eastern Washington beat UNLV in 2 OT 35-33. QB Eric Barriere threw for 374 and 3 TD.

Also, RIP to the awesome FCS Stats website as it got brought out by The Analyst so now I have to rely on CBSSports/ESPN for box scores. Disappointing.

Montana knocked off #20 Washington(!), Holy Cross beat Connecticut, and East Tennessee State rolled Vanderbilt 23-3 upping the FCS win total to 6 for the weekend which is nuts. On the FBS side, UCLA stomped #16 LSU and Chip Kelly has that team rocketing forward. UTSA also beat Illinois 37-30 on the road.

West Florida upset McNeese State 42-36 in a rarer lower level knocking off an FCS opponent.

Presbyterian QB Ren Hefley (transfer from Michigan) threw for 538 and 10 TD in their 84-43 victory, setting an FCS record for TD passes. Backup QB Tyler Heff also threw 2 TD passes setting an NCAA team record with 12 TD passes (surpassing Houston's 11 set in 1990).

Damn. I always get up for those matchups just because they mean so much for those specific teams too.
I guess I'm looking at the games more from a neutral position to present unbiased rankings. At least that's the intent

BC smoked UMass as expected although to their credit, UMass put up more of a fight than I thought they would scoring 28 in the loss.

And the FBS continues to get stunningly upset as Jacksonville State beat Florida State on a deep TD pass as time ran out including the WR having to make several moves to score from over 10 yards out.

Duquesne also beat Ohio 28-26 behind Garrett Owens' 82 yards on the ground. Louisiana Tech barely survived SE Louisiana 45-42 as QB Cole Kelley went 44/59 for 495 and 3 TD in the loss.

Texas got absolutely run over by Pirate Kansas last night and it SHOULD knock Texas out of the Top 25. An absolutely horrible game that had them looking lost on both sides of the ball and allowed for whatever confidence Card had to be shattered by a Razorback team that were definitely looking to "welcome" the Horns to the S-E-C.

UCF and Louisville had a fun game last night complete with a few trick plays, Louisville's QB limping and still balling, and turnovers to decide the game very late. Bless Youtube for putting up better than ESPN level highlights immediately.

Mississippi State got screwed hard by the refs on an onside kick (in which they recovered initially then had to re-kick and were somehow penalized on the review) and lost to Memphis as a result. Boston College rolled Temple and USC blew out Washington State after a costly sack/fumble recovered for a TD and an INT that led to a TD. Jayden de Laura looked solid but was missing open reads and not delivering the ball very well. SMU also beat Louisiana Tech on a hail mary TD catch, which was insane.

Also if you haven't seen it, check out the Oklahoma INT that is probably the catch of the year at the moment.

Fresno State knocked off #13 UCLA 40-37! West Virginia beat #15 Virginia Tech 27-21 for the first time since 2003. Michigan State rolled #24 Miami 38-17.

For the New England FCS Recap: Maine beat Merrimack, Holy Cross beat Yale 20-17, New Hampshire beat Lafayette, Rhode Island rolled Brown 45-24, Harvard stomped Georgetown 44-9, and Dartmouth beat Valparaiso.

Good early slate today: Texas Tech/Texas, #12 Notre Dame @ #18 Wisconsin, LSU @ Mississippi State, SMU/TCU in their 100th meeting. On the FCS side you have Richmond/Virginia Tech and New Hampshire/Pittsburgh.

App State beat Marshall with a game-winning FG 31-30 last night. #22 Fresno State had to score 29 points in the 2nd half to beat UNLV 38-30. Finally, Charlotte beat Middle Tennessee 42-39. QB Chris Reynolds threw for 339 and 4 TD. Alcorn State beat Arkansas Pine-Bluff 39-38 with QB Felix Harper throwing for 368 and 3 TD.

Lots of upsets of ranked teams this week!

NC State knocked off #9 Clemson in an OT thriller! BC to move to 4-0, beat Mizzou 41-34 in OT after Mizzou's coach said BC wasn't worth playing. Baylor knocked off #14 Iowa State 31-29. Wyoming is quietly 4-0 after beating Connecticut 24-22. Oklahoma State knocked off #25 Kansas State 31-20. Georgia Tech beat #21 North Carolina 45-22.

On the FCS side
Dayton beat Presbyterian 63-43(!). ETSU improved to 4-0 by beating Samford 55-48 in 4 OT. Western Illinois knocked off Youngstown State 38-35.

Texas survives in Ft. Worth on the back of Bijan Robinson who had over 30 carries for 200+ yds and 2 TDs. Thompson seemed to come back down to Earth against a TCU defense that's always up for their game against Texas. Now it's time for me to not get sucked into the "Texas is Back" bullshit that's gonna come from this win heading into the OU game next week.

Always good seeing a mid-tier level program like Cincinnati knock off a "big name" program like Notre Dame even if Cincy was ranked higher. Just proves them as legit.
