Biggest upset this week was Stanford knocking off #3 Oregon 31-24 in OT. Kentucky also beat #10 Florida 20-13. Mississippi State beat #15 Texas A&M 26-22. Hawai'i knocked off #18 Fresno State 27-24. Arizona State made their case to be ranked beating #20 UCLA 42-23.

On the FCS side, Rhode Island moved to 4-0 with a win over Stony Brook. SE Louisiana beat McNeese 38-35 behind QB Cole Kelley's 391 yards and 3 TD. Montana State rolled Northern Colorado 40-7. North Dakota State survived North Dakota 16-10. Grambling beat Alabama A&M 37-21 while James Madison stays undefeated beating New Hampshire 23-21. East Tennessee State is 5-0 beat Wofford 27-21. In our shootout game of the week, Fordham beat Lafayette 42-41 behind RB Trey Sneed's 147 yards and 2 TD. Southern Illinois beat Western Illinois 31-30, Sam Houston remains undefeated beating SFA 21-20, and Mercer beat Samford 45-42 behind RB Fred Davis' 276 yards and 5 TD. Finally, Eastern Washington is now 5-0 beating Montana 34-28 behind QB Eric Barriere's 422 yards and 2 TD. Barriere's listed at 6'1" 210 but is a guy to keep an eye on for the NFL Draft as he's been ultra productive throughout his career as he's hit the 71 passing TD mark for his career.

Hey @HarleyQuinn , I am going to Harvard-Cornell tomorrow. Only my 3rd college football game ever. If you got any suggestions of things to do/watch for (besides wandering over to MIT to solve some math problems on a black board) , I am all eyes.

I don't really have much to be honest. Your best bet would be to ask those around you as you often get a lot of "inside" tips of particular places to hit up (or even when) that you wouldn't get elsewhere.

Tennessee is the first FBS team in five years (Lamar Jackson's Louisville) to start two games in a row with a 28-0 lead after the first quarter. Both were even against SEC opponents! Next week is a big nut-cuttin' game against Ole Miss.

So yeah, I'm kinda glad Tennessee lost after that display last night. The headline is misleading as the fans tried to riot with about a minute left to play and the game very much still in question. Tennessee had all three of their timeouts still to get the ball back, and they did! The game went down to a Tennessee play from the Ole Miss 21 yard line, TD or bust. Great game where the Vols clawed and fought back from what was a 24-9 beating late in the first half.
It's also worth noting that another reason the fans were pissed. Despite the two offenses on the field being fast as fuck, this game took FIVE HOURS as players for both teams kept taking dives to slow down the other offense. It was probably a 70-30 split with Ole Miss doing it a lot more. Like, every play almost by the fourth quarter. Lane Kiffin also decided it would be funny to do everything legal to troll Tennessee like take all three timeouts in a row (another reason to like the pros more) before halftime to supposedly ice Tennessee's kicker.

But none of that's the story unfortunately. This was our chance to look respectable again and all I got were these clown shoes.

It's hard to believe that a fanbase that would elect Kane to be its mayor would behave like that.

As for the 4 people in New England sports media who care about college football who were wondering if Boston College was actually going to be really good this year, the answer is probably not! They just got steamrolled by NC State.

Silver lining is now they could be middling enough to play in the Fenway Bowl!

Nick Rolovich and several of his staff got fired from Washington State for refusing to vaccinate. Good riddance and fuck them for being morons and putting their players at risk.

The AAC seems to be replacing the teams they lost to the Big 12 with even more teams from Conference USA: Charlotte, FAU, UAB, UTSA, North Texas, and Rice. That is three teams from each division of Conference USA; all from larger markets and not at all decided on by results on the football field or basketball court; but also includes a few teams with some real growth appeal. Conference USA seems to be on the brink of dissolving, as the rumors are that my Marshall team and at least Southern Miss are going to the Sunbelt, but possibly Western Kentucky and Old Dominion as well.

Conference USA has been horribly ran for a long time and was a mess geographically. I cannot see them adding teams like James Madison, Liberty, etc. and maintaining at least some semblance of respect. Of course, the AAC is certainly much worse off with their conference after what they lost versus what they (seemingly) will gain. The Sunbelt Conference actually looks like it may come out the best by all this

Interesting stuff. So right now the AAC would look like the following. Temple still looks like an out-of-place school though.

Alabama-Birmingham, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Navy, North Texas, Rice, South Florida, Southern Methodist, Temple, Texas-San Antonio, Tulane, and Tulsa

Lot of Texas based geography with good rivalries built in for the Carolinas (Charlotte/ECU) and Florida (FAU/USF). Also a bit of South reach with UAB, Memphis, and Tulane still.

It is important to note that navy is there for football only, and they could just as easily go elsewhere or back to Independent if things do not fit well for them.

Marshall’s AD of years ago really shit the bed. They were the program that Boise State and others used as a template for success as a rising football program. And then they got a new AD that allowed everyone to leap frog them as they regressed horribly. Marshall still has a lot to offer in several sports. They are the defending National Champs in soccer and are ranked #3 again currently. They have a good name recognition from the movie; Moss/Pennington/Leftwich/etc.; the D’Antonis in basketball (even though there is an extensive history of basketball at Marshall, that is the current brand of the team); and they have a great, passionate fan base given the population and region. But they may be left holding the bag yet again, and this time the bag is completely empty. I am hoping the Sunbelt deal is valid.

In more conference re-alignment news, the Sun Belt is looking to add Southern Miss (Confirmed!), Marshall (Confirmed!), Old Dominion (Confirmed!), and James Madison making the jump up from the FCS level. JMU's board has officially given the okay for them to move up to the FBS level paving the way for their addition.

Temporary diversion from college football talk to speak on the Sun Belt Conference for other sports. Sun Belt had to eliminate soccer this year because they didn’t have enough teams to sponsor any longer. GA State and GA Southern went to the MAC and Coastal Carolina went to C-USA. Exactly as I imagined it to happen, SBC Commissioner Keith Gill announced here in Huntington earlier this week that soccer would return next year with those three teams returning; Old Dominion and YOUR defending national champion Marshall Thundering Herd coming over from C-USA; James Madison coming over; and the likely migration of Kentucky and South Carolina with Marshall (they have all been in the same league with each other for decades); and likely WVU as they had already been confirmed as joining C-USA from the MAC starting next year.

There is also the possibility of inviting FIU if C-USA implodes as could happen, and UCF as the AAC may not allow them to stay in the conference for soccer only.

This should immediately be the second-best soccer conference behind the ACC and lots of these teams are ranked and/or have an above average history in the sport.

And to get us back on track, the SBC waived the $2M entry fee for Marshall. The exit fee from C-USA will be around $3M but will merely be withheld from their shares this year and next instead of a check that needs written. So the athletic department budget will take a hit, but they will make it up rather quickly with the disparity in television contract shares. C-USA has possibly the worst deal in football as they are on Stadium, Facebook, and CBS Sports Network. The share is around $500K per team. SBC has the ESPN deal and is supposedly around $2M per team and rumored to increase to $2.5M per team with this expansion.

More regional opponents and opponents that travel will likely mean more tickets sold not to even mention the upgrade in level of play. I am not pretending this is a move to the SEC, but the SBC East looks pretty solid and has fans that go to games.

Everyone is extremely excited for this move as no one has liked C-USA’s bumbling leadership and dead programs. The AAC was often a goal/dream, but with three of their top five teams bolting and the conference picking up some of the worst teams as far as attendance goes, the AAC looked worse than the SBC. Now with the SBC expansion, the general feeling is it has the potential to be the top G5 (G4???) conference in football.

Quick FCS spotlight

- Kennesaw State continues their school success improving to 8-1 on the year after beating Robert Morris 45-21.
- Bethune-Cookman picked up their 1st win of the year knocking off Alcorn State 35-31. Albany also picked up their 1st win knocking off New Hampshire 20-7.
- Yale rolled Brown 63-38. QB Nolan Groom went 18/26 for 330 and 3 TD.
- Missouri State beat Southern Illinois 38-28 in a big MVFC matchup.

- Montana rolled Northern Colorado 35-0. NC is currently 3-7 under Ed McCaffrey.
- NC Central beat Norfolk State 38-36 in 2 OT.
- Valparaiso beat Presbyterian 65-55 in another shootout. Presbyterian is just 2-7 but one of the most fun teams to follow for their NCAA basketball level games score-wise. QB Ren Hefley went 44/68 for 544 and 7 TD and would be a Walter Payton Award candidate if his team could win games.
- Jackson State improved to 8-1 beating Texas Southern 41-21. QB Shedeur Sanders went 25/41 for 305 and 3 TD.
- South Dakota State beat North Dakota State 27-19 behind stud Pierre Strong Jr's 156 rushing and 2 TD. Big win for them.
- UT Martin rolled Tennessee State 41-20 to improve to 8-1 on the year.
- Incarnate Word beat SE Louisiana 55-52. QB Cole Kelley of SE Louisiana went 50/68 for 647 and 3 TD in the loss. He's up there with EWU's Barrier and Hefley as the QBs of the Year. Both schools are now 7-2 on the year.
- Montana State beat Eastern Illinois 23-20.
- Idaho beat Southern Utah 42-24 behind RB Roshaun Johnson's 174 and school record 6 TD.
- Stephen F. Austin beat Eastern Kentucky 31-17. Both schools now sit at 6-3.

Lol all the whiny people reacting to this like this guy is abusive. If you ever played football you heard this shit mad times and nothing about it is abusive. I remember one really important game we lost and some dudes were joking around to the point our coach made them stop both buses, screamed at everyone about how in life you can't be laughing at your fuckups and that this is nothing compared to the bad shit that will happen to you in life, so you better get used to taking shit way more seriously. Then he kicked them off the bus onto the one he wasn't on. I look bad on that fondly actually.

You can't win football games, but more importantly you can't coach people into being good human beings if they're fucking around all the time.
