https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/united-states-added-list-most-dangerous-countries-journalists-first-time-n949676

At least 63 professional journalists were killed doing their jobs in 2018, a 15 percent increase over last year, said the group, Reporters Without Borders. The number of deaths rises to 80 when all media workers and people classified as citizen journalists are included, it said in its annual report https://rsf.org/sites/default/files/worldwilde_round-up.pdf .

The world's five deadliest countries for journalists include three — India, Mexico and, for the first time, the United States — where journalists were killed in cold blood, even though those countries weren't at war or in conflict, the group said.

If you had asked me 5 years ago if America would be one of the most deadly countries in the world for journalists I would have said no way. Now I'm only mildly surprised.

A shining example of the evils of a 24-hour news cycle. If you don't have a story, bah gawd, make one.

Oh man, the late local news owned by Sinclair here airs a TERROR ALERT UPDATE and the one I saw talked specifically about a couple of Norweigan tourists who were murdered on vacation in Morocco. That sucks, but that's not even terrorism based on how they described it. It was "dark people killed white people!!!" (nWo spooky fingers)

Well, there will be new leadership in the senate as of tomorrow. His ratings might be evaporating but Hannity's getting what he asked for on that topic.

When racists say shit like, "What about Chicago/Baltimore/Black-on-Black Crime/What are you doing to fix your own communities?", stories like this need to get signal boosted, in response. Stuff like this is happening in Black communities, all across the country, all the time, but they don't get the media coverage, because nobody's dying, and no white people's stuff is on fire.

Lou Dobbs show got cancel culture'd by Fox.
Either Dobbs was still going after Smartmatic (most pundits who are claiming election fraud are blaming the usual suspects-the mail in voter system and whatnot), or he's just a financial sacrificial lamb for when they have to pay their settlement to Smatrmatic. Either way, he was the highest rated show on Fox Business, so this isn't exactly a small deal. It certainly isn't helpful for them that they are struggling in the ratings for the first time in nearly 20 years, and they (as well as OANN and Newsmax) are on the verge of losing a lot of money in a lawsuit. Plus, outside of high ratings, keeping Dobbs around isn't good for business, as he (and other opinion hosts) have lost a lot of ad revenue, and if they lose the Smartmatic lawsuit, they can't afford to lose much more. That and never underestimate how rich and powerful these companies are, and Fox is at least smart enough to know that you don't fuck around with the rich and their money. No matter how successful a show is, it doesn't take a genius to know it isn't worth keeping around if it ends up with them losing money.

There's also the fact that Trump lost the election, and some of the people who run it might-and this is a big "might"-think from a business and political standpoint that it makes more sense to go after Biden then keep having a guy unironically gush about a guy who a lot of people see as a loser who cost the Republican party things like seats in Georgia.

Bill Maher is why people hate liberals
Maher had Steve Schmidt of the Lincoln Project on Fri as one of the panelist. They had an awkward exchange where Schmidt was taking credit in part for taking on and smacking down Trump. Maher asked how he could think that if Trump got more votes than ever.

Maher also took him to task over the Project's funds. Schmidt admitted they were given something like 60-70 million (IIRC) and that 75 percent went into "voter integration" or somesuch (the commercials) so Bill kept on him about the other 15 million dollars. Maher than accused the Project of stealing one of his Trump verbal snafu montages and turning it into their own commercial. They argued about that for a bit with Maher trying to get his staff to play one or both back to back to prove his point.

Fox News apparently has a segment bashing "Karens" where they run down their interpretation of what makes a woman a "Karen" with user submitted videos, or videos they find on their own. It was muted so I did not get the gist of their commentary, but they shared a local video of a lady locked out of a bar last year. She was highly intoxicated or having a bad reaction to drugs and kept slamming herself into the bar's glass door in anger and licking the window until finally detained by law enforcement. This was not what people mean by "Karen." This woman wasn't acting in an entitled manner, she wasn't locked out of the bar for Karen behavior. She was locked out because of the extreme danger her level of impairment presented to the other patrons during a pandemic.

But there's the panel of Fox "reporters" laughing it up and I'm wondering how anyone local can see that, know the real story (it was local viral all last year), and still put any credibility into the channel.
