Hey remember all those 70s and 80s films you loved like Animal House, Revents of the Nerds, and Sixteen Candles? They all glamorized rape culture.

What if you didn't like those and preferred The Naked Gun.
Nielsen squeezes a woman's breasts in at least 2 scenes. A monster.

Ha, your right. So, did any comedy from the 80's not have either sexual assault or characters casually dropping gay slurs? The latter always throws me off during The Monster Squad and Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure.

I'm trying to think of them, and I'm sure I might see something in re-watches, but John Candy comedies like Summer Rental, Great Outdoors, Armed and Dangerous, and the Vacation movies. They showed the fathers more as the bumbling, lovable idiots. The only sexual "assault" I can think of in Summer Rental is when the hot neighbor forces John Candy to feel her boobs as she just bought them.

Kevin McAllister pinched a lady on the ass but it was for his own survival so it was OK, I guess. But considering our current president is also in that movie, it might be a little problematic.

Edit: Nevermind, I can't read.

I will add that Peter Graves likes gladiator movies.

I've never seen Revenge of the Nerds and I gotta say reading all this shorthand discussion of it is selling the intrigue.

My favorite 80s movie (when I was a kid) was Just One of the Guys which goes way outside the lines of "doesn't age well" into "how was this ever ok?" territory.

I didn't see Revenge of the Nerds until I was relatively old, but what I had seen was a bunch of sitcom episodes from the 90s that showed similar scenes exposing them as being completely grotesque. Didn't think it was portrayed as heroic originally until I came upon the movie.

I haven’t seen a lot of HIMYM, but I did see the last episode shortly after it aired (because Bob Barron freaked out on Twitter about how bad it was and I felt I had to check it out). In it Barney becomes a father and in his final scene is seen yelling at young women to go home from the bar. So his big redemption as a character is that parenthood turns this creepy man who has spent his entire adult life using women for sex into a hypocritical social conservative. Those CBS values :-\

It was consensual, I don't see a problem with it

I don't see this as much of a surprise. These were two people who were such close friends they thought it was funny to go streaking around hotels and scaring people like they were gonna fuck with them while nude according to some of their stories.

I would usually take those as jokes but with his history and the way they have mentioned it multiple times...

The webcam scene in American Pie would 100% be looked at differently today. A woman stripping not knowing that her entire town is watching her? Yeah, that raises some eyebrows in this day and age. I guess it's not seen as bad since they also show the guy prematurely ejaculating thus "getting his comeuppance".

It's almost like Stifler was meant to be reviled, or something...

Yeah it's funny because Stifler almost always got some embarrassing comeuppance. I guess him getting the girl in many situations can be "offensive", but i think he was portrayed as an idiot more often than not.

Yeah so, about that...

I don't think these people have watched the movie all the way through. It's like someone watching Goodfellas up to the Lufthansa heist and saying it glorifies the mafia.

those tweets have like two or three likes generally. If that's enough to write an article about people being outraged that's pretty fucking sad.

I brought him up a few pages back but good that they're actually getting serious about it now. It's a shame if ths ends up being true. I've met Dr. Tyson several times and always seemed like a good dude.

https://news.avclub.com/cbs-paid-eliza-dushku-9-5-million-to-stay-silent-about-1831088361

The New York Times ran a new piece highlighting yet another instance of attitudes about sexual harassment and the toxic culture that enables it at CBS tonight, revealing that the network paid $9.5 million to actress Eliza Dushku in exchange for staying silent about the harassment she was allegedly subjected to on the set of the network’s legal drama Bull. Specifically, Dushku was paid not to talk about a number of objectionable comments made by star Michael Weatherly, who reportedly referred to Dushku as “Legs” in front of cast and crew, made frequent remarks about her appearance, and repeatedly ad-libbed “jokes” about “rape vans” and threesomes in reference to her character (the latter of which allegedly inspired members of the show’s crew to do the same).

CBS continues to sound like the worst place to work at.

This person is such scum.

So, she gave cover to a woman's assailant for a year, stood in front of the world and called that woman a liar, and co-opted a movement that her actions demonstrate that she doesn't actually believe in, for personal gain. And, now that the truth comes out, that she didn't even have the "insider information" that she claimed to have, she wants to slink in with a "Whoops, my bad!"?

I think it shows unbelievable grace and restraint on Aurora Perrineau's part that she hasn't paid someone to have Lena Dunham killed.
