Red Sox have had just as many lousy to mediocre seasons in the past decade (including worst seasons of my lifetime) as they have had good ones in the past decade!

Granted good ones were two World Series Champs but still!

Braves beat the Marlins 29-9. It was only on a 1-0 pitch, but Adam Duvall hit a grandslam in the 7th while up 25-9. Unwritten rules??

On a more serious note though, while I would have given the win to Bryse Wilson since he pitched 4 solid innings, since they gave it to Dayton that means we got a save in a 29-9 game! It's not the 30-3 save, but it's something.

Talk about a day of blow out games!

Braves win 29-9 over the Marlins.
Brewers win 19-0 over the Tigers.
Giants win 10-1 over the Mariners.
White sox win 8-1 over the Pirates.

Jordan Yamamoto charged with 12 earned runs in 2.1 IP.
Pablo Lopez 7 earned in 1.2 IP.
Matt Boyd 7 earned in 3.0 IP.
Nick Margevicius 7 earned in 4.2 IP.
JT Brubaker 7 earned in 5.0 IP.

The icing on the cake as Smues said is Bryse Wilson getting a Save from his 4 IP in the Braves game. Incredible!

Only in 2020 guys!

Grant Dayson faced six batters and got a win.

The Marlins start a crazy series with the Phillies today. Seven games, five days. No doubt trying to preserve arms factored into their pitcher usage.

Yamamoto entered the game with two outs in the second and the game already 7-2. He gave up two singles and two home runs before getting the final out. Then the Marlins got 94 pitches out of him. Yamamoto has pitched four times and in his best start he only allowed four runs in four innings.

Has San Diego management made Tatis apologize for those blowouts a couple days ago yet?

2020 National League ERA: 4.52
2020 NL Bullpen ERA: 4.55
Citizens Bank Pitching Park Factor: 101

1930 National League ERA: 4.97
1930 NL Bullpen ERA: 5.26
Baker Bowl Pitching Park Factor: 110

2020 Phillies Bullpen ERA: 7.17 (2nd worst since 1901)
sOPS+: 162 (worst since 1901)

1930 Phillies Bullpen ERA: 8.01 (worst since 1901)
sOPS+: 139 (4th worst since 1901)

The Phillies have the second worst bullpen ERA since 1901, behind only the 1930 Phillies. The 1930 played in an almost literal bandbox in the biggest year for scoring runs in the 20th century. Adjusted for context, the 2020 Phillies have the worst bullpen of all time.

The Jays have a -32 run differential and could potentially clinch a playoff spot within the next 24 hours.

With Al's pointing that out, and maybe it's just me based on the very shortened season, but I feel like most ERAs are much higher than they have normally been in recent years.

Runs Scored/Game
2020: 4.63
2019: 4.83
2018: 4.45
2017: 4.65
2016: 4.48
2015: 4.25

Down from last year, but this era is historically up from a lull from about 2010-14. I suspect though there are more outliers that we're bound to see in a short season.

The Cubs are garbage and have the same shitty offense again for the third year straight now. Watching them slowly fall on their heads again is so rough. It's funny the pitching and bullpen always gets mentioned as a weakness and it's been fine again while the offense is nonexistent and will go through 7-10 games without scoring more than 2 or 3 runs. It's gonna be heartbreaking for me, but it's time to part ways with at least two of Schwarber, Baez, Rizzo, Bryant, and Contreras and try to get some younger players back and rebuild the farm.

A season where everyone is going to the playoffs and the Mets aren't going. Humiliating. Oh well...

Mets (re)hired Sandy Alderson to be their leader/president of baseball operations. Just like ten years ago he has a country mile of work to do. Hopefully this means the Brodie Van Wagenen experience is over.

At least the Wilton's are (hopefully) gone

The White Sox are at the part of the rebuild where like the Cubs did we need to let Rick Renteria go. His bullpen management cost us 3 games in a row at Cleveland, knocking us out of first and allowing Cleveland to be one game behind for Second Place. This team is limping into the playoffs. Hopefully they can get some confidence back against the Cubs.

The Marlins have clinched a playoff spot. Their first since 2003. The two previous times they made the playoffs they won the World Series

Reds are going to the playoffs for the first time since 2013. No one wants to play them. Bauer/Castillo/Gray in a 3 game series with Iglesias as closer. If they can score at all they're the team to beat.

RP Devin Williams is in discussion for the NL ROY for Milwaukee: 0.36 ERA in 25 IP with 52 K vs 9 BB. ERA+ of 1268 (Yes, 4 Digits...) and a B-Ref WAR of 1.1.

Even with the limited IP he's having one of the craziest seasons for a RP ever. For comparison, Eric Gagne had a 337 ERA+ in 2003 with a 1.20 ERA in 82.1 IP.

I think your stats were pre-yesterday's game. He pitched 2 innings and now is at 0.33 ERA in 27 IP with 53 K vs 9 BB. ERA+ of 1368 and a B-Ref WAR of 1.2

I hope Bob Uecker is pushing for him to get the award.

"And he's given up...1 earned run? That's it? One god damned run?"

The Brewers didn't want to be in the shitshow of expanded playoffs. But the Giants and Phillies didn't want to be there even more.

Well. You were right.
