This week marks the unofficial halfway mark of the MLB season. Who are your award winners. Other thoughts?

Albert Pujols and Joe Mauer are the front runners for their respective MVP awards. I find it amazing that Mauer gets so little attention considering he has a chance to win a third batting title, unprecedented for a catcher. Dan Haren has a slight edge on the NL Cy Young award, though I think Lincecum will overtake him in the second half. Greinke still has the edge in the AL. Rookies are Ricky Romero and Colby Rasmus. Best managers are Tony LaRussa and Mike Scioscia.

At least this version of the Giants is full of interesting players. Pablo Sandoval is entirely unique. Tim Lincecum is an incredible pitcher who looks completely unlike what you'd expect of an ace. It's too bad they really don't have an offense.

I'd relish the opportunity for a rematch against the Rockies though.

It pisses me off that the Giants are basically the same team as the Jays were last year (all pitch, no hit) but the Jays never really sniffed the playoffs.

I was going to say because someone might claim him on waivers, but who the fuck is going to want to pick up that salary? So my answer is I don't know, maybe they're happy with a 5ERA given how good the rest of the staff is.

What the hell is wrong with Barry Zito? Is he maki9ng too much money to be put in minors?
His ERA before his last start was a respectable 4.43. Yesterday was horrific, but one bad start wouldn't merit a AAA stint. Besides, the Big Unit is already out and the Giants lack starting options.

Will they have the money after signing Strasburg? BTW...what's the deal with him...did he sign yet?

Strasburg will sign sometime around 11:30pm on August 17.

If by chance the Nats miss him, second place in this race would come into play.

The Giants should make a move for Adam Dunn.

I still can't believe the Nats got him for that contract. Steal of the off-season, almost.

Or he could go Pedro Alvarez and wind up agreeing at 12:02, never signing the deal, trying to take the team to court, then signing a new contract for more money in late September. The best thing about the Alvarez deal was that the deal he eventually signed was for more money, but over a longer period of time, making the present value lower than the original deal.

The early word on the #1 pick for next year is that some people are already saying he's a better HS hitting prospect than Justin Upton, who was supposed to be the best HS hitting prospect of all time according to some people. It could turn into a Strasburg type negotiation again next year.

Thought Josh Hamilton was the best HS prospect ever?

Bryce Harper and Scott Boras makes for the perfect union.

It's so crazy to me, seeing someone from my podunk central Illinois high school as an All-Star. Go Jayson Werth!

The AL must have the whitest starting lineup in All-Star game history.
Post 1947 edition?

Jayson Werth is my gf's favorite player. I assured her after the introductions that she had PLENTY of time before the game actually begins. Let me again register my disgust for the chinzy crap that was the Everyday All Stars.

As for High School prospects, Bob Feller was probably the most hyped high school prospect in baseball history. He debuted before he even graduated!

Yeah, this is taking forever. But my man Barack Obama has a pretty good arm!

Jayson Werth has been my favorite player by default since he entered the league. Gotta support a fellow Glenwood Redskin... at least that was what our teams were called before the community pressured them into changing to the Titans, complete with a ripoff of Tennessee's logo (but not colors).

No posts between my last one and this one = Example #78473873 why chatting during shows/games ruins board discussion.
