The Switch won't have the Virtual Console at launch. Not even the shit they've already released will be available.

What the fuck? I think they seriously think Zelda is enough for the hardcore and 1-2-Switch will be Wii Sports popular.

I'm sorry. I know I've had this opinion before and I know it's not popular around here but I sure hope the Switch is a massive failure. I'm tired of Nintendo's gimmick shit.

I echo a previous statement, would love for Nintendo to go the way of Sega and just make the games. Haven't bought a Nintendo console since GameCube, would love to do play some Mario, Zelda and such but just not enough to drop the coin on one of the systems.

Their pre-order numbers suggest otherwise. That being said, I think that Nintendo takes alternative routes in an effort to innovate is a good thing, even if the hardcore gamer just sees them as gimmicks. I'd rather a gimmicky Nintendo than them just be another console that has all the same games/gameplay as Sony and MS..

As far as the VC goes.. well, if you really want to play VC games, right now, I can build you an HDMI capable RetroPie mini with perfect emulation for under $30 USD. :p

I *want* the Switch to be a success, because more viable options is always a good thing. I just don't think it will be with everything they've shown about it so far. Obviously the pre-order numbers are gonna look good. It's a Nintendo console with a Zelda at launch and a Mario on the horizon. It was never NOT gonna sell out at launch. It's just a matter as to what they can do after that.

But if Nintendo had a system on the level of PS/XBox I'd be falling all over myself to give them all of my money to play their 1st party games.

I mean, what does it need to have to be on the "level" of PS/Xbox for you? More TFLOPS and GDDR Ram? None of that stuff really makes a difference, tbh, when it comes to first party Nintendo games. Personally, I've always viewed Nintendo as it's own ecosystem within the gaming industry. It's a different experience versus that of the standard consoles and I kinda value that that alternative exists.

I should note that I did not pre-order a Switch, but that I will more than likely be picking one up within the year, once I have enough time to actually sit down and play it.

I'm in the camp of I MAY pick up a Switch before the end of the year, depending on what it's looking like game-wise between now and then, which is a step down from before the official unveiling when I was definitely going to try and get one day one.

I think what most people mean is having actual third party support. Back in the '90's Nintendo had the best first and third party games:

Super Mario World
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
F Zero
Donkey Kong Country
Super Punch Out
Crono Trigger
Final Fantasy III err VI
Super Ghouls and Goblins
Street Fighter II
Final Fight
Killer Instinct
Now Nintendo still produces quality games but that's basically it when it comes to the Wii/Wii U. Sony has God of War, Journey, MLB: The Show, and all these third party games, it makes their system more impressive.

This is basically where I am. It'll be the first Nintendo system I haven't bought at launch since the DS but the only game I want to play on it I can play on a system I already have.

I don't want a Nintendo system that's exactly the same as other systems. I can understand why people don't like the "gimmicks", but I like that there's a company out there trying to do something different with video games.

Why do we need to do something different with video games? They're fine the way they are.

Looks like Nintendo's doing a soft launch now for the hardcore fan crowd and then gradually expecting the general public/skeptics to pick it up over the course of the year as more titles appear and most likely close to the holidays when Mario Odyssey comes out.

I can't realistically see myself getting it before then, unless that Spike Chunsoft announcement this week really is them saying they're releasing a new Fire Pro Wrestling for the Switch as has been speculated.

So the new Zelda seems to be crushing it in terms of reviews. 98 on Metacritic after 56 reviews (last I saw) with all of them pretty much saying "yeah, Nintendo just raised the bar on open world games". Which is deep praise since Witcher 3 supposedly just did that (which I haven't played yet).

For the eternity it spent in development, it had better be nothing short of a masterpiece.

Buy a Wii U.

The last few console Zelda game have all gotten great reviews and then some time has passed and people seem to cool off on them.

I can't remember the last game I was this excited to play, though.

My son has a Wii U. I don't really want to sit in his room and play on his tiny TV.
Plus my living room is set up in a way I can't be directly in front of the tv or sensor bar.

Picked up Breath of the Wild for WII U.

Game's amazing. Stuff like rupees and hearts feels much more earned, you can climb basically everything, and its the biggest game world that feels completely interactive friendly outside something like Minecraft. The resemblance to Skyrim is there, but with much more fun combat and a beautiful looking landscape that feels less sterile than the former's world.

I know this one had a long development, but its honestly such a leap from stuff like Skyward Sword (BOTW improves a lot of the flawed gameplay ideas there), it makes me wonder what on earth they can do to improve the formula.

I'm not the ideal guy to ask as stuff like dropped frames is something I don't notice unless its particularly bad, but I didn't really notice any significant problems while playing. Chances are if its an issue, I'll notice it more the shine wears off; at the moment just taking in the draw distance and consistent lighting has left me pretty satisfied graphics wise.

I've noticed quite a bit of frame rate issues. I can deal with it since I don't want to buy a new system to play one game, but it is quite noticeable at some points.

Are there any gimmicky controls to it?

Skyward Sword was virtually unplayable fur to the motion controls.

Nope. You play with a pro controller or the gamepad, and the latter's touchscreen isn't even used for the game either.

The box says that you can play with a Wii remote and nunchuck, but I don't see any alternate control schemes in the options menu anywhere. I've been playing with a Pro controller and the game is just acting as if I'm using the Gamepad.

I'm guessing he's talking about the tilt puzzle temples. It's literally for less than 5 minutes.
