Cult classic. It's not a movie that's going to be memorable for plot, story, or acting, but it's a near perfect dumb comedy filled with great jokes and memorable bits.

Artie Lange has a story about Ebert's negative review of the movie, and how Ebert said Artie had "all the charm of a date rapist." To which Norm told him "at least you have more charm than a regular rapist."

HBO is airing Dirty Work Fri (It's also On Demand). I've always had it on my list to watch, and the cast looks great....the reviews....not so much.

Lost gem? Almost Cult Classic? Trash?
Cult classic. It's a slightly edgier, Norm-ized version of the '90s Adam Sandler movies (right down to having Christopher McDonald play the villain). If you like those and Tommy Boy, you'll really like Dirty Work.

It should win the award for Best Movie Ever.

I have seen it at least one hundred times. Some of the best lines of all-time; some of the best jokes of all-time. Anyone that doesn’t like this movie doesn’t get comedy.

Paraphrased:

“Hey look! There’s a dead hooker in this car!”

“No there’s not! That’s impossible!”

“Pal, I know a dead hooker when I see one.”

(slightly later)

“There’s dead hookers in all these cars!”

“Nonsense! These cars are loaded!”

“It looks like they’re loaded with dead hookers. I’ve never seen so many dead hookers in all my life.”

“Lord knows I have.”

"Looks like there's gonna be a fight. Got anything good to play?"
"HELL YEAH! 'Street Fighting Man' G SEVENUUUUUUUHHHHHHH"
"You pressed G8"
(brawl breaks out as "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" plays)

"Nurse, I have a problem with something, and it rhymes with 'COCK!'"

Paraphrased. I have used the "and it rhymes with 'COCK'" line many times in my life.

He was talking about how the boys had raised the money to get his heart working again:

“Now that I’ve met Gladys here, I’m going to see if they can get something else working. I’ll give you a hint; it rhymes. . .with COCK!”

Dirty Work for Don Rickles' improv monologue alone is worth it. Been years though.

I forgot Dirty Work has one of my manic pixie 90's crushes in it...Traylor Howard as the love interest. Norm had an eye for talent.

I like in Dirty Work during Rickles rant on Artie that Norm can't stop breaking. Each take he would break so Saget just kept it in the film

Not to bring down the room, but I d/l Mark Macon's WTF Pod w/ Norm. He asked Norm if he fears anything. Norm replied "Illness, death".

Apparently taped in Oct 2011, so roughly the same time frame his leukemia was diagnosed if his "10 year battle" is accurate.

Anyway, in lieu of events, that answer resonated deep.

Norm's brother had cancer when he was very young. I think in his 20s. Norm always seemed to fixated on illness and death given his family history

I bet TSM is concerned rn that news RE: late '90s SNL male castmembers comes in threes and are anxiously waiting to see if Chris Kattan has a public meltdown and/or dies.

(I guess you could bring up Horatio Sanz being accused of trying to schtup an underaged fan and getting her drunk but that was at least a good 3 or 4 news cycles ago)

Listened to Conan's tribute to Norm. I always thought Andy was not a fan of Norm's gay panic humor in the mid/late 90s IE Andy being addicted to gay porn. Turns out I was right. He admitted he thought it was homophobic and didn't like it.

Andy was honest the whole time. Admitting he loved Norm but didn't care for the stuff like that.

And I remember Norm and Andy's ex wife had some sort of quibble on twitter years ago.

Andy did say Norm was nice to his sister when she visited the show when Norm was a guest.

I'm looking forward to relistening to the WTF and that Conan tribute riding to my show in Boston tomorrow night.

I've definitely heard some gnarly stuff about Norm from some female comedians that worked with him but I didn't want to be that guy in this thread. I'm glad my father Andy Richter could call him out before I did.

Very surreal to hear Norm being praised by ultra right alters and liberals at the same time.

Norm was a right winger but he seemed to realize Trump was bad near the end at least

I was talking to my girlfriend recently about Norm and I said to her that as much as I love Norm, he had gotten a little cranky with old age and his political views that I'm surprised so many people were upset about his passing. She made a good point that when someone passes away, people tend not to look at this stuff with goggles on.
