People make mistakes, would he have atoned for this and fessed up to his wife and kids? Nobody knows. But the point is that he didn't deserve to have his life taken away for whatever wrongs he committed. When someone gets murdered it's a tragedy. Factor in all the community work he did and this is a pretty big blow to the lives of a lot of people.

Also, just because it was a direct consequence of his actions doesn't mean it was justified.

I don't think I ever said it was justified, and if my comments were construed as such I apologize. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I agree it was a tragedy and nobody should ever have their life taken from them the way he did, but it's even more tragic to me that it's a situation that could have been avoided.
