This is for the best examples of stand up, SFH. Not pictures of Joss Whedon lying down near a drumkit.
Never had that one before. Beats getting called Allen from "The Hangover" series.

Forgot to bump this that the Hannibal show was this weekend.

It was at a casino and my mom got offered comp tickets, so I actually got to go with a buddy for free. He caused a little stir because he made a joke on Twitter that morning that he forgot about the show and was in Bonaroo in response to the casino's tweet. Some guy I know sent it to me convinced it was real.

Show was really good. He put on a great show and I have never seen someone kill hecklers/yellers as dead as he did.

One of the local Stand Up spots just sent me comp tickets to go see Brandon T. Jackson for this weekend. I had said earlier I had no idea if his stand up would be good but I guess I am going to find out.

Dave Chappelle inexplicably announced a show in Portland, Maine next month. Never thought I'd see the day.

But of course, I got tickets to see an Ace Frehley concert in Boston the same night. I'm never going to see Chappelle. This is my third or fourth close call where I didn't get to see him. This is probably the last (and only?) chance I have to see him in my homestate too. Frig!

Going to see John Hodgman on Sunday. I think it's gonna be more of a one man show than outright stand up though. I'm surprised that the show is a near sellout because everyone I've talked to about it is like "John Hodgman's coming to Portland this weekend!?"

Then again, Wyatt Cenac sold out here six months ago with similar lack of word of mouth so I guess there's just a lot of hardcore Daily Show fans around here.

I'd be curious to see Hodgman. You will have to post how it is. Seems like his show could go either way real easy.

Hodgman last night was pretty good. Surpassed my expectations for the most part. Like I thought, it wasn't really stand up comedy but a straight up one man show about his experiences at his summer homes in rural Western Massachusetts and Downeast Maine ("the privileged white guy, comedy stylings of John Hodgman" as he put it). It was mostly comedy obviously though it did have a few poignant moments.

Only complaint is the setup for the show was confusing. It was General Admission but there were three different GA sections, one for people who had $60 tickets, one for people who had $25 tickets, one for broke bastards like me who bought the $20 tickets and they were sort of poorly marked. This is a show that would have worked well at the small 150 seat folk club or one of the big 2,000 seat theaters but it was too big for the former and not quite big enough for the latter so it was at a 600 person capacity rock club (where I saw Turquoise Jeep back in June! #KTJR). Just not a very comedy conducive venue. I saw W. Kamau Bell there in December and layout was similarly not great.

He also closed the show by playing two cover songs (one was Jonathan Richman's "Roadrunner", which was pretty decent, and I didn't catch what the second was because I went to the can thinking the show was over) on the ukulele and leading audience in a singalong. I thought it was kind of a weird way to end the show.

Sounds interesting.

I watched the Brooks Wheelan half hour special on Comedy Central, which I enjoyed. Out of curiosity I looked up his tour dates and see he is going to be at one of the new venues in town in early October. Tickets are super cheap and they have some smaller acts I'm interested in like him in a few weeks and Jermaine Fowler next week.

They just announced Amy Schumer's gonna be playing Cross Insurance Arena (where local AHL team plays) on November 7th...which is a night where I'm gonna be attending my best friend from college's wedding in New Jersey.

First, Chappelle comes to Maine on a night when I'm out of state and now this? I'm starting to think huge national comedians are going out of their way to schedule their dates when they know I'll be out of state. Maybe Hannibal Buress tipped them off to my drunken, boorish behavior...

They announced that Kevin Hart was gonna be playing same arena Schumer's playing in two weeks this weekend but I see all notices of it have been canceled. Like to think Kev canceled the date because he knew I was doing a show at Andy's Old Port Pub that night. Thanks Kev. :)

Just bought tickets for my first comedy show of 2016. Trump Vs Bernie live in Boston next month. Not stand up persay but I'm psyched for it.

Kind of wanted to see Jermaine Fowler in Boston tonight but I've got rehearsal. It's at the same bar/rock club I saw Hannibal Burress four years ago before he blew up.

Maybe Jermaine Fowler will drunkenly yell at me for acting weird in four years like Hannibal did. :)

Too bad to miss that.

I may be getting some comp tickets for a standup show with Kevin Nealon and Norm Macdonald later this month.

I want to go just to see Norm.

Went to that Nealon/Norm show last night.

Kirk Fox opened for them, which I know I recognized him from some of the bit roles he played. His whole schtick was making vaguely rapey comments so even with an opener from Hollywood with them, I really didn't laugh.

Nealon was out next and was better than I expected. He had some funny bits, did a little of his SNL schtick and talked about his time there too. He kept bringing up Trump running for President and when most people booed, one guy in the crowd yelled "GROW SOME BALLS, AMERICA" so that was awkward...

Norm came out with this ridiculous hat and orange glasses that matched his orange shirt. It really seemed he was on something at first but it was so awkward. So many people got up and left, which made it funnier to me. He seriously seemed to be trying to chase people out and would go on long rants that were uncomfortable and not even jokes. I laughed so hard in the awkward silence when he spent like five minutes describing the antics of Jughead in "not the most recent Archie comic but the one before".

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan is doing a one man show ala Foley's at Laugh Boston in two weeks. If you think I'm not curious to see what a Jim Duggan one man show would be like then you don't know King Kamala!

Hope the show is called "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan's one man sHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOw! This ain't no fancy dan comedy show.

Probably shit a brick.

I met Hacksaw about four years ago when he did a cameo in my friend's music video. He seems chill as hell so I'd like to think we'd get along better than me and Hannibal did. Hopefully. Duggan seems pretty fit for an old dude!

One of the local stand up places is offering me free tickets to go see Robert Kelly this weekend but it is not THE R Kelly but some white dude.

Got tickets that were comped like this before for Brandon T Jackson last summer, just had to pay the fee price (and then buy drinks there).

Saw their upcoming list and saw Dave Attell is here again this spring. My buddy and I usually see him. That Debate - Trump vs Bernie thing Kamala saw is going to be here in beginning of March as well.

Also saw the big venue that I went and saw Chappelle at last year is having a Netflix sponsored standup show headlined by Adam Sandler here this month. It is Sandler, Schneider, Spade and Tim Meadows. Considered buying a cheap seat for the trainwreck potential.

That post originally had a joke about R KELLY and what he does behind closed doors but I got that FORBIDDEN.

Those are a lot of big names from the SNL frat boy era, it will be worth it for the nostalgia alone.

I've seen Spade stand up. Genuine curiosity on Sandler. I just can't even imagine Meadows or Schneider. The show is February 12th so I still have a little time to consider.

I actually think it's a great career move for Sandler to return to stand up. He's not spectacular but he's much better than average

Robert Kelly is pretty damn hilarious. He came to my local university a few years ago and I laughed so hard I cried. He toured with Dane Cook and Gary Gulman during Dane's big breakout eighteen months. They had an HBO(?) show called Tourgasm.
