Cosby is coming here in February. I am sort of interested in going, although the cheapest ticket to the thing is $42 (before service fees).

I like Cosby enough, but I hope it isn't going to be an hour of "these kids today with their facebooks *goofy face* and their twitters *annoyed face* and goobly gobbly youtubes"

This has gone unnoticed I guess but Judd Apatow is back doing stand up. He started in the past week or so

I finally got tickets to go see Dave Chappelle.

I am beyond excited. I ran out to the store tonight and randomly heard on the radio he is going to be here two weeks from today.

They only had third level tickets in a venue I've never been to here. $73 a ticket but I don't care. I would've paid whatever for a chance to see Dave live.

May be a good month of standup for me because even though there aren't very many I like, one of my other favorites (as mentioned here before), Dave Attell, will be at Stand Up Live in town again next month.

Attell's coming to Portland but I'm gonna miss it because I'm doing a show that night. Boo-urns.

I've (dumbly) passed on the chance to see Chappelle twice. Once back in '07-'08ish, after Chappelle Show but before his full fledge return to standup, he played Agganis Arena in Boston (where the BU Hockey team plays and where I attended Slammiversary '13) and I passed it up because I was a broke college kid. Then I came close to buying tickets to see the first Oddball tour with him and Flight of the Conchords but decided to pass up on it because the venue's mad inconvenient and I was a bit gunshy because it was right after he had the meltdown in Hartford.

I saw Hannibal Buress on Thursday night. Show was great. Had a super awkward encounter with him at a bar after the show. I was hammered and decided to fanboy awkwardly at last call then assumed there'd A. There'd be an afterparty and B. I was invited to said afterparty. Followed his entourage for a bit before he told me to scram. Not great. Almost posted about it in the Drunk Tank.

I'm seeing Todd Barry next month and Cameron Esposito in June. Probably not gonna get hammered and try to follow them to their hotel.

Don't worry, Kamala. Hannibal is probably just sad that he has a lifetime ban from Jello pudding and Kodak film.

Ironically, one of my closers up until a few months ago was a Cosby impression.

There's a good chance I would've stopped doing it before the scandal cause Cosby impressions are hacky as fuck but Hannibal gave me no choice to cut it!

Is any of your standup online? Youtube?

I used to like a lot, now I only like a few. I usually can only name a handful of people I want to see. My top two (Chappelle and Attell) are fortunately coming in a quick span. I've always wanted to see Chris Rock but I have no idea if he even tours. Probably Louie.

I did like Michael Ian Black when I saw him a few years ago (didn't check this thread to see if I am just repeating old posts). I was talking with a friend about going not too long ago. He didn't want to see Jay Pharoah because it would mostly be impressions. I saw David Alan Grier was coming but as much as I like the guy, I have no idea what his stand up is like.

This is my first "arena" comedy show. Been to the Improv and Stand Up Live. Knew someone who went to Aziz a couple months ago but never thought I'd want to go to one of these concert venues. This is a place that is maybe about 10-15 years old in Downtown Phoenix that I've never been to because I am not really a concert person. We will see what my third deck experience is like.

There's some stuff online if you poke around but most of its old and kind of amateurish. I'm gonna use some of my tax return to pay one of my friends who does professional video production to film one of my sets in the near future.

I've been seeing a lot of stand up shows this year. Myq Kaplan, Nick Thune/Ben Kronberg, Wyatt Cenac, and then Hannibal last week. Not to mention the 2-3 local shows a week. There's been a marginal uptick in amount of comedy shows that come to Maine in the last year or two. Louis CK is another one I've missed out on. He's played Portland City Hall twice in the past three years but both times seemed to happen during long periods of unemployment. He's a Boston guy so he plays there at least two times a year at seems. He's right behind Chappelle on the list of guys I need to make a point to see.

Chris Rock tours once every few years but not very often. It seems like the last time he did one, he skipped Boston and did one of the casinos in Connecticut. Probably cause of the classic New England racism.

First standup show I saw was Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter co-headline a show at a scummy pool hall on the outskirts of town the summer after I graduated high school in '07. No idea why the hell they played a pool hall in Portland. MIB was so-so, I remember liking Michael Showalter better.

Eddie Murphy allegedly did stand up last night for the first time in decades.

This is exciting if true! Eddie's got to be the most dynamic stand up of all time. Course that was 30 years ago but still excited to see what he would do if he did really return.

I was at the Oddball comedy festival in Hartford last summer where Dave Chapelle made a surprise appearance. It's amazing to say that I've seen the man perform live. Louie C.K. was the headliner and after his set he pretended to walk away before running back to the mic and saying "Ladies and gentlemen, Dave Chapelle!". Everybody stood up and whipped out their phones.

The event itself was pretty good. The only act I actively disliked was Sarah Silverman. I was surprised at how much I genuinely enjoyed Amy Schumer.

Speaking of Amy Schumer, saw her last night and it was pretty good. Was trying out some material for the MTV Movie Awards so curious now to see if any of those jokes make it in. One odd moment though in that some lady walked up to the stage, gave her a beer and she took it, drank a bit and set it down. This did seem to be good enough for the women as she asked for said beer back a while later and Amy gave it to her while noting if a guy did that she would have poured it on his head.

I went to Vegas a few years ago to see Gilbert Gottfried so of course the show was cancelled. Gonna try to fly somewhere and see him this year. If he cancels again I'll know he has it out for me.

Ordered my Dave Attell tickets for next Friday.

Saw Craig Robinson is coming to town soon. He's one that I like but not sure if I would like his stand up. Thinking he is probably at a piano the bulk of the time.

Two of my friends have opened up for Dave Coulier in the past month and I'm inexplicably, insanely jealous of them.

Dave Coulier does 75 minutes. I inexplicably want to see 75 minutes of Dave Coulier standup.

I did see Todd Barry tonight. Holy mackerel! What an awesome show.

Dave Attell was entertaining enough on Friday but a little bit of a letdown.

As always, I didn't care for the openers. Dave had some really good stuff but he got really focused on some redhead in the front row and shuffled a lot of attention on her throughout the actual show.

On top of that, we found out when we went to get seated that Stand Up Live, the hosting venue, sold the bulk of the seats to that show to Miller/Coors Distributors. So they gave all the best seats away to this group and we were shoved in a back corner. The venue was still small where it wasn't out of the way but it sounded from little shots Dave took that he had to tone himself down some too. So between the Coors people and the redhead, feel like I got cheated out of some of the show.

The highlight package before hand makes me really wonder what Chris Kattan is doing here next week but no way in hell I'd pay for that. Leaning toward going to see Craig Robinson in the end of May and a buddy of mine let me know that Hannibal Burress is doing a show at one of the big casino venues in June, so I will likely try to catch that.

Dave Chapelle bombed hard last night in Detroit and people demanded refunds. Poor guy. Everyone has an off night, I suppose.

I was going to buy tickets to this show, but at the last minute had an expense come up that kept me from doing so.

I'm gonna go on a limb and say fuck that crowd.

First of all, Dave chain smokes every show. That has no bearing on the performance. The article also cites the drunk audience heckled and "wouldn't let Dave get a word in".

When I saw Dave last month, they gave fair warning to hecklers non-stop. Sounds like the audience (and the theatre for not handling it) was the issue, not Dave.

I don't think anything is more annoying than seeing a great comic's set ruined by drunken buffoons who try to be part of the show.

I had the pleasure of attending a Jeselnik show last year or so. After his big finale he hung out testing out jokes on us and taking questions from the audience (most of them he answered with asshole answers :) ). Randomly someone yells "YOU SUCK!" which was stupid enough but then this other guy yells, "Don't listen to him Anthony! You're a fucking God! you're..." and he rambled on for like 30 seconds.

Jeselnik just stood there patiently and once the guy stopped says, "That was the longest fucking heckle ever" and went to the next person.

Heckling was not something I even mentally prepared myself for the one time I did standup. It was for a troop benefit my friend's mom threw for some guys from their community. Something like 3(?) guys from the same graduating class were in the same unit being deployed. Three bands donated their time to raise funds (or donated hygiene supplies) for these fellas and they needed an MC/time filler between sets. I always fantasized about one day trying standup so I jumped at the opportunity when the call came.

Overall, my friends laughed WITH me, not at me. The rest of the crowd didn't give 2 shits and stayed by the bar. The bands were using their own microphones and amps. I had the shitty muffled house mic so no one outside the stage area could really hear me anyway. And I was nervous. And ran through an estimated 30 minutes of material in something like 10 minutes. And it was on note cards. Also, band #1's lead singer kept chiming in on their still live mic while tearing down. That rattled me a bit too.

Then one of my "Friends" started taunting me and trying to take the microphone from me (He also fancies himself a comedian by repeating whatever jokes he heard on Lettermen the night before). I remember it as I got pretty flustered. For the space of time between bands #2 and #3 I went pout in a corner.

At least my audience participation joke got a response. About once every 6 months a conversation with anyone that was there that night will eventually roll over to the night Saints_Fan_H died on stage. And the look of terror in my eyes when I realized I was on my last note card.

This is for the best examples of stand up, SFH. Not pictures of Joss Whedon lying down near a drumkit.
