The NBA is BACK (season resumes on July 30th)

Woj reporting that the board of directors will vote to ratify the plan tomorrow but everyone's assuming it will go through. 22 teams playing in Orlando (13 Western Conference, 9 Eastern), eight regular season games, play in for the eighth seed then playoffs.

Joining current sixteen playoff teams are Portland, New Orleans, San Antonio, Sacramento, and Phoenix (congrats Baby Shoes) in the West and Washington in the East.

Season is going to run from July 31st through October 12th. Presumably shortened off season followed by shorted 2021 season starting in January then HOPEFULLY things will be back to normal.

Kind of figured they'd copy the NHL, but I'm more amazed that they are taking so many from the West. Based on record, I guess?

Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards being invited are honestly a bit of a headscratcher. Up until a few days ago, it was assumed that it'd be the 16 teams plus the four teams vying for 8th seed in West.

It be ironic if the NHL and NBA comeback and baseball is cancelled this year.

I'm almost willing to bet money that that is what happens. MLB was heading towards an eventual strike already. You throw in a pandemic and we might not see baseball for a long time.

Every other sport is trying their hardest to make it work; NBA, NHL, NFL, NASCAR, horse racing, golf; except for MLB.

That's gonna be a pretty quick turnaround with some teams basically getting a month off at most. Next season could be crazy with injuries.

I didn't think 2020-21 season would start until Christmas at the latest.

Resumption was approved 29 to 1 with the one nay, weirdly, being Portland. I thought one of the teams that weren't invited like Atlanta would be the nay vote. But I guess Portland is upset cause they could miss the playoffs and still not move up at all in the lottery standings since lottery standings will be based on records from March 11th.

Is the 20-21 season gonna be truncated as well to then "right the ship" and allow 21-22 to go back to normal?

There have been rumors of the league looking into moving the regular season to a December start for some time, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the event that starts that scenario.

I had this thought this morning and I may be crazy/lose another board bet but don't you think the Warriors have to emerge as championship contenders (or at least a very strong playoff team) again for the 2020-21 season with the shortened offseason plus The Splash Brothers essentially having all of this extra time to recuperate plus a top draft pick?

This draft class isn’t that great so not sure if that will help but I do think that people will realize how overlooked Klay is. He sacrificed the most in the KD years and as much as people want to beat Curry up for Warriors sucking prior to his injury, it was easier to beat them when he was the only viable offensive option. They only had to worry about Curry instead of Curry or Klay.

I also think Wiggins will step up. I never thought he’d be a transcendent talent but think he had potential to be that occasional All-Star guy if he is on. I think his new teammates plus Kerr will work for his personality and he will have a really good year as well.

So I guess Malik Monk's suspension was for cocaine addiction. What a throwback. He must've reminded MJ of his early Bulls teammates.

While it is possible given the nature of his suspension, there has been no credible source of this. Someone said it on Twitter and it picked up steam, the only article I saw about it was some site I never heard of it citing random ass people on Twitter.

It seems like a pretty random thing to make up. Gen Zers don't do coke afaik.

They released timeline for rest of the season. Damn. Pretty brutal sprint through rest of regular season. Eight games in two weeks. If I'm the Spurs or the Suns, I'm probably wishing I hadn't gotten invited!

I know the eight games were contractually obligated but was it obligated to have seven game series for entire playoffs? Cutting first round and conference semis to 5 game series would be easiest cuts to me.

Boogie Cousins is going to sit out rest of the season and not sign with any teams.

We don't need to worry about Boogie Cousins' leg exploding on top of everything.
