I still really enjoyed Val as the Heat MVP workhorse from 04-08 or so. He had a pretty fun match with Flair that went around 10 or 11 minutes on Heat in 2005. He had another fun Heat match around that time with Shelton that I think was when they taped Raw/SD/Heat/Velocity in Japan. Also, the Punk match from that year was really good. But, now with knowing everything we know fuck him and I'm glad he never got the main event push.

It's weird that Taylor and Val are being discussed simultaneously. Their in ring careers are kind of similar in that they both had a lot of promise at one point before settling into some really embarrassing wrestling angles that they are negatively remembered for. The Kaientai Choppy Choppy pee pee and John Wayne Bobbitt stuff isn't as embarrassing as the Rooster, but no one remembers Val for his wrestling matches. Then they both settled into elder statesman veterans mostly working C or D shows while now they both are some of the most detestable human trash in the wrestling business.

Once or twice he had pieces in the Raw magazine both being hardcore conservative and ardently defending the Attitude Era. I know for sure he had something in just after Owen died.

2000 Val was ready. Trish was perfect for him, he was motivated, look and character were completely different. Thought for sure he'd get some time with Jericho, at least.

The porn star gimmick wouldn't have translated to a top level push. Even when he dropped it, it was hard watching him cut a promo without expecting him to drop the "Hello Ladies". The gimmick did it's job in getting him noticed but he wasn't believably going to go in extended programs with the likes of Austin, Taker and Rock.

People forget his feud with Mankind was over him stealing Mr. Socko and using it as a gloryhole.

I remember there was like a 4 or 5 way feud around the IC title in the Summer of 00 with Benoit, Jericho, Val, Hardcore Holly, and Rikishi. I remember Val having some matches with Benoit and Jericho around that time, but I can't remember if they were any good.

Todd at Wrestlemania 9 is always crazy. Todd, JR, Heenan, Gene, and Monsoon all on one show has always been hard to get my head around.

Wasn't Lord Al doing the commentary for Mania exclusive matches? Or was that for All American? Hearing Lord Al referencing the Toddster was even weirder

I know it's a hot take but those early Raws would be much more fun if they had anyone but Bartlett.

I still can't believe Sean Mooney has been on just as many Raws as Jesse Ventura has called Taker matches. It seems all wrong.

Did Jesse call a Taker match with Vince when he guest hosted RAW? Or was there something in 99 to build SSlam?

Jesse called the HHH/Taker/Chyna match before Summerslam '99. Never said his name, either.

I like to imagine Vince, Bruce, and Pat brainstorming for hours and then just being like "GOD DAMN IT! FINE! WE'LL JUST CALL IT WWF WRESTLING!"
Was this the end of Maple Leaf Wrestling?
Legit cool to see Gorilla Monsoon talk somewhat out of kayfabe on a random D Show.
Monsoon was a runner up for the NCAA's at Super Heavy Wt. I wonder if he was even at any of the Olympic trials. His resume is at least more legit than kayfabe would be 1980 Olympians Kerry Von Erich and Nikita Koloff (both Wrestling and Weight lifting according to the Crockets!)

Awesome. This could be Benny Hill'd into viral power.

Best part is Todd running through the door and Gonzalez stopping for a second trying to figure out how to fit through it.

Like...I don't know how to describe it. If Mr. Dink was a coked up parrothead hanging out by the arcade machines in a bowling alley.

Well damn now I feel like a creep for wearing the same outfit as Doc and making that same noise regularly while I enter a room.
