Evan, the original "Strangler," Lewis should be in that legacy hall of fame thing.

Evan didn't even get a chapter in Tim Hornbaker's book (Legends of Pro Wrestling), and Hornbaker wrote about 47 wrestlers from the period 1850-1920. Meltzer put him in the Observer Hall, but for a long time he was certainly an overlooked figure in wrestling history.

It's crazy episodes like that which makes you wonder how Vince looked at his prima donna top face HBK who has already spent years refusing to drop titles, just fucked up wrestlemania, is obviously on the drugs, and didn't draw shit as champion and yet double down on Shawn and send Bret packing.

--
Crockett Cup 86 was a dud at the box office, with around 3500 fans at the Superdome for the jobber card, and 13,500 for the night show. That number seems decent, but 52 wrestlers were on the payroll for the day, before counting announcers, refs and managers!

Baba supposedly wanted Crockett Cup 87 to come to Japan, which might have worked in a WGTL style of events, but America would care even less if Baba filled spots up with Japan workers instead of flying in the job squad.
--
Stan Hansen worked Jumbo in Japan 24 hours before his Wrestlerock match!

Like @The Valeyard said in the New Generation thread though, I feel like WWF stumbled ass backwards into the perfect booking. As great as the match would probably be, I honestly don't think Steve Austin finally besting Bret Hart would have the same broad appeal that Steve Austin kicking whiny brat HBK's ass had at WrestleMania XIV.

Running with Austin and Bret until Survivor Series where Austin finally wins the belt and sends the Harts packing was the right end to the story but Austin getting hurt made Austin to a mainstream superstar. I think you could still run Austin and Shawn with all kinds of shenannigans in the buildup but as is it went pretty much perfectly for everyone but Bret and Shawn. Austin doesn't hit that same level without things going as fucky as they did. He could've been Warrior'd if you think about it.

The best episode of Raw ever. It never, ever got that good again. It even had Gorilla Monsoon saying the ass word.
I really wish Gorilla's health had been better so we could've gotten more Attitude era Gorilla.

Insane to think he was the same age that a lot of WWE part time main eventers (and Jericho) are now when he was doing those classics '80s WrestleManias. I guess all of Jesse Ventura's old jokes made us think he was retired for a lot longer than he actually wazs.

And the year before Vader beat the shit out of him. The is the one authority figure who needed to take the stunner, too.

I thought Gorilla did take a stunner at some point in '97 but it might be a Mandela Effect thing.
Based on a History of WWE search, it appears Commissioner Slaughter is hired by Monsoon at the end of July to replace Monsoon's role as on screen, in the arena, authority figure. After that Monsoon appears at Summerslam in a video not related to Sports Entertainment exhibitions and is pretty much gone then with the rise of Mr McMahon.
A Monsoon picture makes a cameo when Austin shoots arrows at WWF officials who he is mad at after the neck injury.

2008 WWE suspends Michael Hayes for 60 days following an incident that occurred during Wrestlemania week where Hayes made a racially insensitive remark towards Mark Henry.

2013
Milena Roucka, best known as WWE diva Rosa Mendes, was sent home from their European tour for "personal reasons".
Those personal reasons turn out to be Roucka going through an alcoholic relapse. Mendes did not return to WWE television until August, and did not appear in a match until October. Later in the year, Michael Hayes is suspended for allegedly causing said relapse.

I always forget that Bagwell's injury took him away from in-ring action for an entire year since he was still featured on TV regularly as Scott Steiner's lackey.

I remember totally falling for this as a kid. Seeing Buff shedding tears had me like "oh wow, what a beautiful moment. He really changed!" and then SWERVE!

Ah. I was picturing both stipulations to be in play for both people but it went right over my head that it would be like Hair vs Mask. I think it was the “Loser Leaves” that twisted me up because it sounded like either would be subjected to it.

Yeesh, Gagne put Bockwinkel over Hogan by DQ on the same day two years in a row. With better booking and management, Super Sunday could've been looked back on as AWA's Starrcade or Wrestlemania.
