Superstar Trump is starting another war because he's finally putting a stop to the US' endless warfare.

I felt like it deserved it's own thread if this actually comes off. Starting what is essentially a war with the government shut down and not even a real fig leaf is a really big deal.

Thanks for doing this, I agree it warrants a thread. Even if the land invasion ends up not happening, we've already spent a lot of money (during a shutdown) just moving all the materiel into the potential theater, and have already murdered dozens of people with the random attacks on boats.

Looks like Trump is starting to target other world areas now...

"US President Donald Trump has ordered the military to prepare for action in Nigeria to tackle Islamist militant groups, accusing the government of failing to protect Christians.

He warned that he might send the military into Nigeria "guns-a-blazing" unless the Nigerian government intervened, and said that all aid to what he called "the now disgraced country" would be cut.

Jihadist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province have wrought havoc in north-eastern Nigeria for more than a decade, killing thousands of people - however most of these have been Muslims, according to Acled, a group which analyses political violence around the world.

In central Nigeria, there are also frequent clashes between mostly Muslim herders and farming groups, who are often Christian, over access to water and pasture.

But the Republican leader is facing a growing number of voices domestically, particularly from the political right, who have drawn attention to the situation in Nigeria."

I'd guesstimate the number of dead Christians in Ukraine to be at least high six-figures. Just more insanely expensive neverending war and militarism.

In keeping with the whole 1980s TV vibe, I think "Venezuelan tanker" was a storyline on Dallas at least twice.

This story is so weird, because there doesn't seem to be any independent verification of such a strike, only Trump mentioning it. So either it's being kept under wraps by EVERYONE worldwide, or more alarmingly (and, really, more realistic) Trump has no clue & people in his admin are just feeding him stuff to keep him occupied, whether that stuff is actually real or not. I get that Trump is essentially President in name only, but you'd think more people would be asking "who's really in charge here?"

Watching CNN coverage. I will say they are still good at the overseas coverage. Waiting for that stuff to get gutted and ruin that.

White House hasn't taken credit yet but there's a lot of footage and unofficial word.

I don't know how this is all going to play out but given how incompetent the administration has been I don't see it going well. The US has never had a problem with successful military operations, but the followup is the issue. What happens in Venezuela now that Maduro is gone? Almost certainly this will create another massive humanitarian crisis and more refugees which is the last thing anyone on either side of the political spectrum wants if for different reasons.

What are they going to do with Maduro (and his wife!)? It sounds like they intend to put him on trial. That's going to be a clusterfuck. Maduro is a bad man who has done terrible things but the reason they have claimed they went after him is for drugs. The whole thing will give Maduro a platform to turn himself into a martyr.

Because Americans were too dumb, weak, and online to vote for a woman in 2024, we now get George W Bush's third term.
