Video Game Music Anyone?

I don't know why no one, including me, has mentioned the Donkey Kong Country soundtracks. The best is probably DKC 2, because it's the best.

DKC had some great music, but when I think about Donkey Kong music the first thing I think of is that awful DK rap, and it makes me forget about anything else.

Yeah, btw Andrew, here's the Original Red Cap Assault by Ashane

*** This was a demo given away by SEGA, so technically its not an actual game, yet kinda is, so I'm including it.

%%% Like the videos say, Soma Bringer is one of the biggest crimes of not being localized even though it would be a huge hit.

~~~ All 3 games that make up the entire Legend of Heroes VI will soon be released so I'm including this song. Unless the PSP can't handle it, this will be what the game version sounds like.
And yes, everything that is up here, I have in fact played. Unless otherwise stated or indicated its not over here. Also, yes, there is an actual language called Hymmnos. It was created specifically for Ar Tonelico, though I don't think it officially became a real language until the second game. For more information on Hymmnos, please visit here.
I think spending 3 hours on this wasn't so bad. Could've been worse if I didn't decide to give up on trying to recall more.
Soma Bringer was alright, I guess. The story is way out there, but I got kinda tired of the gameplay by the end. No motivation for the extra dungeons.
You did post songs, and you posted them correctly there is just a limit on embedded links per page. I'm sure SO2 means that they're music but not songs or some demented logic that he'll explain.
Main Entry: song
Pronunciation: \ˈsȯŋ\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English sang; akin to Old English singan to sing
Date: before 12th century
1 : the act or art of singing
2 : poetical composition
3 a : a short musical composition of words and music b : a collection of such compositions
4 : a distinctive or characteristic sound or series of sounds (as of a bird, insect, or whale)
5 a : a melody for a lyric poem or ballad b : a poem easily set to music
6 a : a habitual or characteristic manner b : a violent, abusive, or noisy reaction <put up quite a song>
7 : a small amount <sold for a song>
— song·like \-ˌlīk\ adjective
Technically not songs, but words change meaning all the time anyways. If you want to call video game compositions songs, you're close enough to right.
Yeah, a dictionary definition sure is demented. "Suteki da ne" from FFX is a song. The boss battle music is not. It's a piece. Or you can say composition, or even theme.
You know I totally forgot about Legend of Legaia. That was actually a pretty good game back in the day. Hasn't aged well, however.
I find it interesting that most of the themes (don't wanna get SO mad by saying song) we're picking seem to be from the RPG genres. That begs a question: is it because we invest so much time into RPGs that we remember those themes better or is it that other genres just suck with making good music?
I have like 3 different collections of Final Fantasy VI music over 5 CDs. One is completely in Japanese.
You know, I've been listening to a lot of cover/remix bands lately and they are all pretty damn good. Its a shame that video game companies don't ask one or two of them to come over and help them with a sound track to make it sound much better or to give it a slightly different rendition.
Oh well that's cool. Didn't know that.
I just wish some guys like The Megas and Crow's Claw got offered to help with a soundtrack. I know a few guys from OCRemix have been asked, but it would be kinda cool if these guys got a chance to do it. I'm not talking about a whole soundtrack though, perhaps just like a different rendition of a song (Crow's Claw) or singing like a title song or a song in game (The Megas).
Look up the credits for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Videogame. That's the biggest game I know has had a community chiptuner. Pretty sure the did the entire soundtrack. Also check out the video game music blog on
Brental Floss is apparently going to do a show up here. I don't know why he is since he tends to stay near New York and we're about as far from New York as you can get in the states, but I'm excited. Crazy Duck in Space or we riot!
Sex Machine Gun
Also, the opening music from the SNES version of SimCity. Hell, all the music from SimCity, but that opening rules.
I wrote this in Japanese because I wanted to.
That's what I was trying to say at least. I probably didn't get it quite right, as my Japanese isn't great. Just did it for the hell of it.
