Mostly starting this thread as a reminder to myself to peruse the archives of IWTV this winter. Also feel free to discuss pre Sinclair era ROH and anything pre 2010 independent wrestling ITT

Speaking of which, IWTV will be adding the JAPW archives tomorrow. A nice early Christmas present for the '00s rasslin fans of TRTSM.

In the world of independent wrestling, five years ago is vintage but '00s is vintage regardless no matter what any of us aging millennials think.

I was kind of surprised at what shows they rolled out with since trailer kind of indicated it’d be more ‘00s/early ‘10s but I am excited regardless.

Very weak. WSX was XPW with its teeth cut, from the roster to the office staff.

Yeah but did XPW have Sean Waltman during his career lowpoint? (I'm not sure if that is positive or negative for WSX tbh)

Yes

Waltman in WSX was during the upswing when he started cleaning himself up and busting ass again for his indie dates. Waltman in XPW was when he and Chyna released their sex tape.

Damn. How did I not think pilled/methed out Waltman didn't make some appearances for the promotion run by an evil hardcore pornographer? It is even more surprising that Rob Black didn't pay out of his ass to get Chyna to do a cameo.

Another reason why '00s indy wrestling feels older than it is and easily qualifies as "vintage" Imho...is that the majority of shows were filmed on video until the late '00s. Hell, I think the NWA On Fire shows I live blogged in 2011-13 were in standard def.

His commentary was so perfect. He was a heel, but he always built up the faces in the matches so they meant something in the matches. When Jericho started doing commentary for AEW, he reminded me so much of Larry.

I remember Al Snow's run on the indies in the early 2000s. He was strictly under an announcer's contract in WWE at the time which meant he could work indies. He came to my local fed in 2003 and wrestled Sabu which blew my mind at the time.

There's some third party wrestling DVD with a bunch of "fancam" style footage from indies/lucha in the 90s, and one match is an excellent Sabu/Snow/Funk triple threat.

This is the one episode of AWF I remember watching. It never had a regular time slot on ESPN so it was impossible to keep track of when or if it was on. Kind of a crappy promotion TBH. Maybe you could make the round system work in modern wrestling but not then and not with this crew.
