Is that a bomb for Land of the Lost? Also, Star Trek continues to do very well

Yeah, looks like we got our first full scale flop in Land of the Lost for the summer..........doesn't surprise me really, Will Ferrell and Land of the Lost just don't go together and never should have in the first place. I'm not sure what the budget was, but I did read that projections were that it would make around the 30 to 40 million mark. I would assume the strong showing for Hangover took away alot of that comedy audience away from this one.

Up is going to be one of the bigger consistent hits this summer, I am thinking. Getting to $140 million this quickly is a good sign.

Went and finally saw Angels and Demons over the weekend, actually alot better than Da Vinci Code, to say the least.

That has to be a bomb for lost. Whatever the budget was, the advertising budget had to have been huge. Which makes it all the more sweet to see it fail.

By the way, what the hell is My Life in Ruins? Never heard of it.

It's a romantic comedy with the girl from My Big Fat Greek Wedding and the reviews have been pretty poor. Glad to see Hangover have such a strong opening and it should have a good run this summer.

When Ferrell doesn't do films like Step Brothers or Anchorman he tends to bomb (Semi-Pro aside). A lot of people hate the guy but when he does the R-rated comedies I don't mind him at all, it's when he wanders over to the family comedy genre that's when he starts to become annoying to me.

I actually thought LOTL would take the top spot. At least I was right about "The Hangover."

It also doesn't help that the movie (Land of the Lost) looks like absolute shit... Let's all call this what it is... Singing Mike Tyson ads = money.

Yeah, between this and Kicking and Screaming, Will Ferrell has got to learn to stop doing family comedies. If you will allow a short tangent, watching the latter movie on a bus last year, I thought "Wow, OK, this Mike Ditka is kind of amusing..." followed ten minutes later by "Wow, why did they give Mike Ditka a supporting role in a major feature film?"

Anyways, hoping to check out The Hangover on discount Tuesday.

The Hangover numbers are pretty good for a movie with zero star power. Huge ad campaign and very little out in the way of funny movies out helped.

If they keep Mike Tyson's appearance as a surprise, the film makes half of what it did.

Regardless of what you think of him, watching Will Ferrell run from dinosaurs for 90 minutes just probably isn't sound that appealing to most people, or at least not as appealing as "Up."

Kind of surprised LotL didn't do too great. I figured it would reel in the same crowds that watched Mall Cop. Will Ferrel is kind of hit or miss though, and is much more tolerable in very small doses. I caught his guest spot on Man vs Wild last week, and it was actually pretty entertaining.

Weekend actuals are up..."The Hangover" is actually #1 beating "Up" by around just 800,000$!

Yeah, has that happened ever before? Meaning how often has number one and two been so close from weekend estimates, only to change positions after the final numbers are released? I'm thinking it probably has, but just too lazy to look it up.

I know it happened a few years ago but I forget the movies.

Either way I'm still glad to see Up didn't suffer a large drop off.

Yea, it's happened a few times. I remember in the mid-90s, studios fudging the estimates got kind of bad.

Also, Land of the Lost wasn't a family comedy, and that's what did it in.
