I'll take a crack at predicting conference rankings. East is pretty easy, but the West other than the Warriors at 1 is pretty tough.

East:

1. Cleveland Cavaliers
2. Boston Celtics
3. Milwaukee Bucks
4. Toronto Raptors
5. Washington Wizards
6. Miami Heat
7. Philadelphia 76ers
8. Charlotte Hornets
9. Detroit Pistons
10. Orlando Magic
11. Indiana Pacers
12. Brooklyn Nets
13. Atlanta Hawks
14. New York Knicks
15. Chicago Bulls

I think the Bucks make a big leap this year and Giannis might end up getting MVP or close to it. 76ers have enough talent that they should get one of the last playoff spots if they remain injury free but that's a big if. Cleveland and Boston probably aren't as good as last year but have enough talent they should finish in the top 2 or 3 spots in this terrible conference. Those last six teams are woof.

West:

1. Golden State Warriors
2. Oklahoma City Thunder
3. Houston Rockets
4. San Antonio Spurs
5. Minnesota Timberwolves
6. New Orleans Pelicans
7. Denver Nuggets
8. Los Angeles Clippers
9. Utah Jazz
10. Portland Trail Blazers
11. Dallas Mavericks
12. Memphis Grizzlies
13. Los Angeles Lakers
14. Sacramento Kings
15. Phoenix Suns

Other than the Warriors clearly being the best and the Suns and Kings being at the bottom, this is so wide open. Any of these other teams could surprise or disappoint. I don't think San Antonio added enough to compete with all the new superteams and Pau/Parker/Aldridge/Manu are all a year older but they probably will still end up the second seed. I could be overrating the Pelicans/Nuggets/Clippers and underrating the Jazz/Blazers/Grizzlies but I don't think the latter teams are better than last year. Maybe getting Nurkic for a full year propels the Blazers to a playoff seed or the Jazz become the best defensive team in the NBA with Gobert/Rubio anchoring. I might look stupid having the Rockets at 3, but CP3/Harden is so interesting.

If anything is clear to me after this one preseason game, it is that Lonzo Ball is under a microscope that will not be applied to other rookies. The internet creams their shorts when he makes a bad play or misses a shot.

This guy Kyle Kuzma is a fucking baller though.

I get why Lonzo is though when his dad was such a media hound. You can't create that much hype and not get a backlash especially online. The West seems more interesting this season with the talent moving around but the east really suffered.

Random question: Who makes the most 3-pointers this season between Vince Carter, Kyle Korver, and Jamal Crawford?  They are in a three-way tie for 5th place on the all-time list to start the season.

I'm going to go with Crawford. He probably will get the most playing time and will always jack up shots. Korver might get docked some minutes early on and maybe this is the year where VC finally looks completely done. I doubt it though.

All-Star format is getting another change.  After each conference’s 12 players are selected, the top vote-getter in each conference will be captains and get to draft their teams.

Korver, I think.

This new All-Star game thing has the potential for some serious burns. If Westbrook is the captain, I want to see him pass on Kevin Durant.

Is this to keep the East Team from being pitiful outside like 3 players?
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

Fred Hoiberg has been given the keys and is basically running his vaunted offense that I've been hearing so much about. It seems to be for guys not to defend at all, foul randomly, and jack up 50 threes per game.

Bulls lost by 48 to Dallas.

I must have missed it.  Why is the season starting two weeks earlier this year?  Is this the more off days, less back to backs in the new collective agreement?

Dante Exum going down with a dislocated shoulder really sucks as its another setback in trying to see what the Jazz have with him. Some people are saying that he's out for the year.

The 2014 NBA Draft class might be cursed with injuries with Zach LaVine, Dante Exum, Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid, and maybe Jusuf Nurkic (who's been injured a few times already).

Speaking of injuries, Philly gave Joel Embiid a 5y/148m extension.

That's a huge gamble.

- Rodney McGruder, of the Miami Heat, will likely undergo surgery on a stress fracture in his leg and is expected to miss 3-6 months.
- Frank Vogel hinted that Aaron Gordon could play some center for the Magic this season.

Aaron Gordon at Center will probably work better than their attempts at thinking he can guard people at the 3. Not like that is a high benchmark.

Richard Jefferson, Kay Felder, 2019 2nd round pick, a 2020 2nd round pick and cash considerations to the Hawks for the draft rights to some Euro guys I never heard of and probably won't ever play in the NBA.

One thing I learned tonight from watching the Bulls and Raptors is that Lauri Markkanen is a big stiff who can hardly run the floor.  I have my doubts that he will have more than a handful of transition finishes this year.  It's almost like GarPax got fooled by a tall kid with a decent jumpshot that put up numbers at a school like Arizona because he was seven feet tall or something.  Or worse, Lauri has a back injury that is flying under the radar...Jonas Valanciunas looked like John Wall compared to him.

I think the real story of the Bulls will be that almost no matter whom they took at #7, (Lauri, DSJ, Mitchell, Monk, Kuzma) fill in the blank for whomever they got at that pick for Butler it wouldn't be enough.  I think Lauri will be a serviceable pro, but without getting the best player at #7 it wouldn't be enough between Dunn possibly being a below average starter at best and LaVine coming off a an ACL tear and free agency looming.

And they still threw in a first with it....

Waivers and moves being made. Some older veterans hitting the market and a few intriguing options for teams looking for specific skill sets.

The Cavs have waived Kendrick Perkins as their final cut. Lue said he'd consider Perkins for the coaching staff if Perkins doesn't want to continue his career.

The Milwaukee Bucks have requested waivers on Joel Anthony, Gary Payton II, and Brandon Rush.

The Philadelphia 76ers will waive Kris Humphries and Emeka Okafor on Saturday.

The Portland TrailBlazers waived Anthony Morrow.

FUCK YOU LEBRON FOR RUINING #THE RETURN

Out of all those guys I can only see maybe Rush for Grit and locker room leadership, Morrow for shooting, and maybe Humphries for an extra big/rebounding making a team. Maybe GPII, but I really don't know anything about his game.

Richard Jefferson and Kay Felder have also been waived by the Hawks and The Knicks cut Trey Burke.

Bucks and Nuggets have shown interest in Jefferson.

Emeka Okafor is playing for the Sixers' G-League team.

And an interesting move as the Grizzlies plan to waive last year's first round pick Wade Baldwin IV, reportedly to clear a roster space for Mario Chalmers.

Pretty telling on how bad Baldwin is or how his development level, if they are going away from the rookie scale contract and length to clear a space for Chalmers.

I didn't see much of Baldwin in Memphis, but I thought he would make a good third guard at minimum watching him at Vanderbilt.

As for Bolomboy, I think a lot of Jazz fans were excited for him because he had some comps to Paul Millsap (double digit rebounds per game, played at a small school, 2nd round pick), but he doesn't look like he has enough strength to make it at the NBA level. Hope someone else claims him or he gets more of a shot in the G League, but he looks like end of the bench guy in the league at best.

WASHINGTON -- Five days after President Donald Trump told the National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors they weren't welcome at the White House, the owner of the New York Knicks sent a $125,000 check to help his re-election efforts.

James Dolan , executive chairman of Madison Square Garden Corp., contributed the money to the joint fundraising committee set up by Trump and the Republican National Committee, Federal Election Commission filings show.

"Mr. Dolan is a long-time friend and supporter of President Trump," Knicks spokesman Jonathan Supranowitz said. "His contribution is a matter of public record, and was made by Mr. Dolan as a private citizen."

Bulls claim Kay Felder off waivers. Probably just to take up space until Kris Dunn returns from his thumb injury. I think I like him more than a lot of the Bulls options at PG tbh. He should be on the team over Cameron Payne most definitely and is one of the only guys that can create their own shot.

My picks for this season:

Eastern Confernce
1. Cleveland Cavaliers
2. Boston Celtics
3. Toronto Raptors
4. Washington Wizards
5. Milwaukee Bucks
6. Charlotte Hornets
7. Miami Heat
8. Philadelphia 76ers
9. Detroit Pistons
10. Indiana Pacers
11.  New York Knicks
12. Orlando Magic
13. Atlanta Hawks
14. Brooklyn Nets
15. Chicago Bulls

Western Conference

1. Golden State Warriors
2. Houston Rockets
3. San Antonio Spurs
4. Oklahoma City Thunder
5. Denver Nuggets
6. Minnesota Timberwolves
7. Los Angeles Clippers
8. Portland Trail Blazers
9. Utah Jazz
10. New Orleans Pelicans
11. Memphis Grizzlies
12. Dallas Mavericks
13. Sacramento Kings
14. Los Angeles Lakers
15. Phoenix Suns

I had the hardest time figuring teams from 5-9 in the West and debating between Raptors and Wiz for the 3rd spot in the East.

I am probably overly pessimistic for the Jazz than most of my favorite teams. That said, I am not sure how they win 43 games while averaging 82 points per game.

- The Celtics will start Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Al Horford against Cleveland on Tuesday. Curious to see how the 2nd Year treats Brown and how Tatum shows up in his rookie debut.

Bulls season off to an awesome start as Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirtoic got into a fight that left Niko hospitalized and out indefinitely. Bobby threw a sucker punch that left Mirotic with a fractured bone in his face. I imagine Portis gets cut, but John Paxson choked Vinny Del Negro with zero repercussions so who knows.

Now reports are saying Mirotic instigated the fight. Cut them both and run with Big Money Markhannen and Quincy Poindexter at PF.

Mirotic has a broken jaw and needs surgery. Well, I guess Portis "won" the starting PF job.

...more seriously, both men need to be fired.

That's what I would do. Both suck anyways and they are going to be even worse now which is actually better for the Bulls getting one of these four or five buckstuds in the draft. Portis seems to have an attitude problem and it makes sense now why he fell from like 11-13 projected down to 22 in the draft. If Niko was instigating it and picking on Portis, he should be cut as well. I read that the Bulls are still interested in Jahlil Okafor so maybe one of the two get traded for him.

Portis gets suspended for a whopping 8 games.

It was good to see the Celtics not back down from the Cavs and Marcus Smart/Jaylen Brown taking over at different points of the game. Tatum looks like he could be solid too once he finds his comfort zone.

Also Al Horford's washed up. He'll have some big games I think but for the most part, he is no longer an All-Star caliber force.

All of the talk about the Celtics dropping below the 5 seed is ridiculous. Yeah, whatever tiny sliver of a title window they had was closed when Hayward got injured but I really only see Cleveland and Washington being better than them and I think they could make another Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
