The big horror thread pretty much covers all for that genre but we dn't really have one for everything else and after seeing this I think it warrants one...

Honestly at this point the only BluRays worth buying are ones released by either Shout Factory or Criterion.

**SURPRISE TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT**

“Pussywillows” will be blooming this Spring! We’re beyond thrilled to reveal that we are releasing John Waters’ hysterical 1994 dark comedy SERIAL MOM on May 9th as a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray! (And right before Mother’s Day, of course ;-) )

Mr. Waters has been very involved in our strategy, which we couldn’t be more grateful for. The newly-designed artwork you see here (from The CRP Group—who also did Rabid and Firestarter recently) has his blessing. The original theatrical art will be on the reverse.

Extras are also set in stone :

• NEW! – An exclusive conversation with Director John Waters, actress Kathleen Turner and actress Mink Stole. (30 mins+) (We’ll add that this is a must-see for fans of the film! Very fascinating to see them in the same room reminiscing.)
• Serial Mom: Surreal Moments – featuring interviews with Waters, Stole, Actress Patricia Hearst, actress Ricki Lake, actor Matthew Lillard, casting director Pat Moran, production designer Vincent Pirano & more!
• Feature commentary with Waters and Turner
• Feature commentary with Waters
• The Making Of Serial Mom – original promotional featurette
• The Kings Of Gore: Herschel Gordon Lewis and David Friedman featurette
• Original theatrical trailer

Pre-order directly from us @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/film-comedy/serial-mom-collector-s-edition and receive the Blu-ray two weeks early. Plus, if you act fast, you’ll also get a 18” x 24” rolled poster of the new artwork (Limited, while supplies last. Only 500 produced.)

Shout Factory! is doing new 4K Restorations on Blu-Ray for Bruce Lee's Game of Death and Return of the Dragon as part of their new Shout Select line. The 4K restorations are great news but I'm curious if/what the special features will be as SF usually stuffs their Blu-Rays with them.

Honestly at this point the only BluRays worth buying are ones released by either Shout Factory or Criterion.

Oh, there's other companies that are putting out some great stuff besides them

-Arrow Video are a must for anyone who loves cult cinema. If you like Spaghetti westerns, Italian horror, genre films from Japan (such as their upcoming release for Takashi Miike's "Dead or Alive" trilogy), more well known titles such as "Hellraiser" and "Donnie Darko" and even more obscure oddites ("Blood Rage" is a must for anyone who loves 80's slasher movies). If you want it, they will give it a stellar transfer, great special features, a booklet with essays and photos and so much more. I've mentioned it before, but they've replaced Shout Factory as far as being the best studio for cult movies-hell, they are Criterion for that kind of thing.

-Severin mostly releases horror (as of late, they've been releasing Italian horror titles like "Burial Ground" and "Dr Butcher MD"), but they also have the "Kung Fu: Trailers of Fury" which are a must for fans of trailer compilations.

-Synapse you have to wait a while for some of their releases, but it's always worth the wait. Plus, they've gotten in on the limited steelbox game, releasing the "Demons" films, Argento's "Tenebre" and "Phenomena" and more recently "Popcorn" in that format.

-I mentioned Kino Lorber above-their "Kino Cinema Classics" line usually releases old titles from the MGM and Fox catalogs (their recent release of "One Million Years BC" is a must if you are a fan), though they've released some Mario Bava titles in the past (it seems like Arrow is taking care of that one from this point on)

-Vinegar Syndrome doesn't always (okay, doesn't usually) release movies that are good from a traditional standpoint. That being said, if stuff like "Raw Force", the films of Rudy Ray Moore or "Jack Frost" (not the Michael Keaton one) are your thing, then give 'em a shot. Oh, and they release old hardcore porn on Blu as well.

-Code Red and Scorpion Releasing are bit of a hassle at times-you can't find or get most of their stuff on Amazon (you have to go here, here and on Screen Archives to get their stuff) though I own several of their titles. Plus, Dario Argento's "Opera" and Michael Soavi's "The Church" will be released by them.

-Speaking of Screen Archives, Twilight Time are great in general if you are a film lover, though all of their releases are in limited quantity.

I AM THE CHEESE! I AM THE BEST CHARACTER ON THE SHOW!! I AM BETTER THAN BOTH THE SALAMI AND THE BOLOGNA COMBINED!!

Yeah, there are several solid companies out there. I tend to buy based on the movie/anime itself more often than not but...

- Lionsgate Films tends to deal more with popular releases but are usually on point with their releases. They also have gotten into the 4K market.
- Paramount Pictures/Sony Pictures are the same as Lionsgate.
- Starz/Anchor Bay tend to be pretty hit or miss in their releases, some are fantastic but the majority are pretty average.
- Well Go USA tends to lean more towards international releases, primarily Asian, into the American market. Unique and interesting source if you ever want to expand to that side of film.

On the Anime side you're basically stuck with Aniplex, FUNimation, Sentai Filmworks, and lately Viz Pictures.

Lionsgate also resurrected Vestron Video to release some of their cult horror titles ("Blood Diner", "Return of the Living Dead III", "Parents" and the "Wishmaster" series for example) on Blu-Ray.
