Net Neutrality Nixed
« on: November 21, 2017, 11:04:36 PM »
So what are we going to do when Trump's FCC chair rolls back net neutrality?
Can cable.companies use this as a way to stick it to streaming services?
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

Oh Dama, you better believe they're going to do this. This is why they made their own streaming services.

California has a bill written to keep net neutrality in place here. Hope they pass it.

Portugal has no net neutrality and that's how they charge you per month. Can't wait for this.

I can't read Portugese. How much are they charging you for what?

You have to pay for everything separately? WTF?

I thought it was odd that I got a letter from Cox informing me I now had a data cap shortly after this asshole took office.

They're mobile data plans. After 10 GB you have to pay for everything you use. A lack of net neutrality gives them the freedom to do anything they want with your internet.

Glad I live in California.

you got 2 of 5 in favour. It's probably a done deal but you should at least make you voice heard. If/when it happens it will end up in the courts. I've read opinion articles that say they'll have a tough road proving the need to end net neutrality.

So we've got 3 weeks for someone to murder at least two FCC commissioners. TSMers with guns I'm looking at YOU!

NSA edit: Of course I'm joking. If I was directing people to murder people I wouldn't start so low as the FCC.

Damn I didn't notice that. Good typo.

I call this a turf n ' turf. It's a 16 ounce T-bone and a 24 ounce portherhouse. Also, whiskey and a cigar. I am going to consume all of this at the same time because I am a free American.

In New York, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said that he’s leading a multi-state lawsuit to challenge the FCC’s vote. (MA Attorney General Maura Healy is joining him)

Even Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who had previously announced on Twitter her support for Ajit Pai and the FCC, tweeted a video, saying, “We will codify the need for no blocking, no throttling, and making certain that we preserve that free and open Internet.” She said that following the FCC’s action today, there would be action next week from Congress.

Worth noting that there was a request to delay the vote by the FCC after hundreds of people had accounts hacked/names used (including dead people and young kids) in comments for net neutrality.

http://www.newsweek.com/nazis-want-net-neutrality-repealed-because-they-think-it-will-help-them-harass-724003

Long story short: internet white supremacists think ending net neutrality will allow them to harass people online openly again. Never mind the fact that the end of NN could actually increase some forms of internet censorship, and might not make it easy for these guys.

My point is that these are very stupid people.

Yeah basically nothing will happen, which is why I don't talk about this stuff anymore. Even the most minor of victories aren't actual victories, there are countless hurdles to them. Not even that but if these new rules were reversed someone would have to enforce them, there's lots of proof that they aren't enforcing anything that helps normal people.

Even if this got through the house, Trump would veto it. So yeah. This has to be done state by state, or the democrats need to be in power again for it to even have a chance of changing. Which it won't, but it'll at least have a better chance.

It does have some impact. This is a political boon for Democrats leading up to midterm elections. Of course, the results hinge on the actions of the American Voter but, politically, it was a good move by the Senate Dems.
