Everclear is touring with Fastball and Vertical Horizon this summer. I'll be on vacation when they hit NY but you bet your ass I would have been there if I wasn't away!

Ah yes, the "The Way to Mean Everything She Wants to Everyone" tour.
Maybe the real deep state was the friends we made along the way.

I wasn't able to get to any shows last year (first time since 1995 that I didn't go to at least one show), but it looks like this year I will start up again. My buddy's band, who opened for Fozzy a few years back, will be playing on Long Island this summer opening for Dokken!

Warrant & Dokken is one of the opening shows next month at the new concert venue in Portland that my friends work at. Might go. Those are two of my favorite hair metal bands. Maybe I'll pull a Kinsey and Hammerjack a Cougar. 8)

Jani Lane died like five years ago. Some guy named Robert Mason, who replaced the dude who replaced Jani when he got fired for being a fuckup, is lead vocalist now.

Surprised Warrant's only on their second replacement for Jani and that all of the other dudes are more or less originals tbh

My son had an extra ticket to Panic at the Disco so I went to that tonight. Don't know much about their music but it was a fun show and I enjoyed their Queen and Billy Joel covers.

Bush came to my area back in 99 as a literal 11th hour substitute for Korn, because our mayor at the time forbade Korn from playing after they were booked.  Bush just happened to be travelling up I-20 the day of the show, and between gigs, stopped to play a set.

I went to see Metallica last Friday in Dallas, TX. They still know how to rock, I just wish the tickets and merch weren't so god damn expensive.
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

Anyone ever seen Brit Floyd, supposedly the best Pink Floyd tribute band out there? Going to see them at an amphitheater near my apartment next Tuesday.

Alsp, I'm very stoked as a Primus/Clutch double bill is coming here too early August. Primus was my first live show in '93 (technically a part of Lollapalooza that year w/ Alice In Chains, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, etc) and seen them pushing a dozen times live. Claypool never leaves the crowd unsatisfied.

Debating on Guns n Roses and U2 seperately as well. Both are playing in the new Vikings stadium here.

Also considering finally going to Lollapallooza in Chicago this year, at least first night headlined by Muse.

Crazy Town are playing at a tiny bar right by my apartment in September. Tickets are $18 which is $17 more than I'm willing to spend to see a couple of drug addicts. Pass.

I saw Mariah Carey and Lionel Richie at the end of July. Mariah was probably lip syncing, and the video screen never showed her close up, but I loved her show. I had seen Lionel a couple years ago and that was one of my favorite shows ever. This time didn't deliver.

I saw hometown band Green Day at the Oakland Coliseum last Saturday. Pretty good turnout for an outside show. It was a very fun show. They had fans from the crowd come up at different times to sing and one even got to pay guitar. Not sure if they were plants but it was pretty cool for the live crowd.

Apparently this guy has a pretty decent following. He's playing a local semi-major venue in the next few days.
My friend's band is opening for him so a few of us are going check it out.

Absolute blast. Laughed my ass off. Had a good spot that he kept looking in my direction when he'd ask the crowd shit. Asked who had a library card, said I looked like I was lying. He made another person prove it, then held on to their library card the whole set. The person left without it.  ;D After the set he shot the shit with a few of us and said he actually has a huge collection of library cards at home from people that forget to retrieve them after the show. He said they make great mementos of where he's been.

I actually met him before the gig, out of character, and he shook my hand and introduced himself by his given name. My friend whispered, "That's him, you know." Clearly, thanks dude. Complete class act. Would recommend.

DMX is coming here next week.

I'm seriously considering going!

So I went to this:

- DMX didn't hit the stage until 11:30. The show was supposed to start at 9 and some of his crew kept coming on the mic and saying "DMX is on his way". People in the crowd joked that he was being arrested.

- They had some low-level MC's rap a few verses to hype the crowd up. One of them actually got boo'ed pretty hard as he just kept rambling instead of rapping.

- Crowd got really restless around 10:30-11:00 and started to chant his name.

- X finally hit the stage and it seemed like all was forgiven. The first thing I noticed that there were like 50 people all crammed on this small stage. X rolls deep!

- He opened with "We Right Here" and closed with "Party Up". No "X 'Gon Give It To Ya" or "What's My Name?".

- His security detail kept following his every move on stage. Tt was funny when X went to the ends of the stage to sing to the crowd and this giant 300 pound dude trails behind him.

- X kept preaching and rambling on about nonsense between songs. For some reason, he performed his guest verse in "Money, Power, and Respect" and his mic went out and the show stalled for a few minutes.

- He only performed for an hour and didn't do any full tracks. Just a few verses from a selection of his hits. Better than nothing, sure, but very disappointing.

Not the best concert experience. I don't think I'll be going to a hip-hop show anytime soon. Ja Rule is performing at the same venue next week. Yeah, no thanks.

I'm flying to Vegas tomorrow to see Whodini. They were at the first concert I went to back in 1985. The headliner is Bell Biv Devoe, who I saw at some point in the 90s, EPMD, who I saw back in 88-89, and Biz Markie.

Last year, Live Nation put together a concert series called "Ticket to Rock" with three shows: Deftones/Rise Against, Incubus/Jimmy Eat World, and Offspring/Sublime w/ Rome. I went to the Offspring show and had a good time even though the new "Sublime" was utterly forgettable.

They're doing it again this year but with four shows instead of three: Aveneged Sevenfold/Prophets of Rage, Five Finger Death Punch/Breaking Benjamin, Godsmack/Shinedown, and Rob Zombie/Marilyn Manson.

That's a pretty wretched list. The only show I would even consider seeing is Zombie/Manson as I've still yet to see either artist. I need to hear Thunderkiss '65 live before I die, man!

Highly recommend seeing Zombie live. He put on a killer set when I saw him (granted that was 17 years ago), playing his big solo stuff and the WZ classics ("Thunderkiss '65," "More Human Than Human," and even "Electric Head Pt. I" IIRC). I've heard Manson is always great live, too.
Maybe the real deep state was the friends we made along the way.

Nine Inch Nails are touring the states this summer. That's nothing unusual but they're doing it super old school and ONLY selling tickets at the box office. No online sale to prevent scalpers. I'm a big fan but I don't want to wait on line for hours for tickets to see a band I've seen multiple times already. I have a friend who is a superfan and actually offered me money to do it since he's out of town. I passed.

I saw NIN in Newark about five years ago. The show was a big production with a really cool lighting rig, but they played 9 tracks from their mediocre then-new album Hesitation Marks, and I'm guessing the shows later this year will feature a heavy emphasis on the three recent EPs. Interesting that they're doing smaller venues this time around, and I don't know if that's Trent's choice or just being realistic about the level of ticket demand. I'm guessing next year they'll do larger arenas and/or amphitheaters, either with a co-headliner or MAYBE doing a 25th anniversary "playing The Downward Spiral in full" gimmick, but I'll just wait until then.

It's very possible that I'll be seeing Smashing Pumpkins in Jersey on Thursday. The MSG show is the night before but my friend got great seats that I'm not willing to drop $400 on. The NJ tickets are way more afforable but it depends if I have a job interview that day.

Totally going to this. They announced special guests Courtney Love, Peter Hook, Davey Havok (AFI singer), Chino Moreno, Mark McGrath (wtf?), and members of the Killers.

Well, that was quite the show. They played all the hits but left out Disarm for some reason. They closed with a song from Disney's Dumbo.

The arena was pretty full. I don't have any hard numbers to reference obviously but it was a near sell-out. Pumpkins have a third touring guitarist and a female keyboard player which will make Kreese happy.

There were a lot of covers. Stairway to Heaven, Love Will Tears Us Apart, etc.

Mark McGrath joined them onstage and sang Sugar Ray's Fly which alienated half the audience while the other half had fun with it. Even Billy joined him on vocals which pissed my friend (diehard Pumpkins fan) off. They then did a cover of Breaking the Law with Mark on vocals.

Courtney Love was completley hammered and looked and sounded terrible. They did Celebrity Skin and Malibu, both were awful. She then helped sing the chorus for Bullet with Butterfly Wings and was completley drowned out.

Chino joined them onstage for Bodies and Snail, both of which they hardly perform live.

For my first Pumpkins show, I had a lot of fun but a lot of my friends weren't very impressed with all the special guests and prefered other times they had seen them.

I was there too. 10th row, $32.25! I enjoyed it a lot, though I would have preferred the setlist from the other dates on the tour. I'm surprised at the lack of "Disarm" as that has been the opener on the other shows. Not a single song from Adore, which is a major letdown. I think the show may have been delayed since the set times listed the start as 8:15 but it started after 8:30, so maybe they cut something. The third guitarist is the guy who replaced Iha on all their tours from 2007 until this one. The bassist is Peter Hook's son, which explains why Peter was there. Keyboard girl is a snack.

I wasn't really into the special guests. I'm not a big Deftones fan, though I do like some of their songs. But I just wasn't into hearing another singer sing Pumpkins songs while Billy was on stage. I don't care for AFI at all. I was expecting "Celebrity Skin" and was totally stoked for it, but I was very disappointed. Courtney has no stage presence anymore. The Killers guys were fine since they didn't sing. I like Peter Hook a lot and I'm glad I got to see him since the one time I saw New Order was after he left, but again, this is a Pumpkins show. I stood there with my mouth agape as I watched Mark McGrath sing "Fly." I never wanted that.

I loved the "Stairway to Heaven" cover. I'm glad I got to hear "Today" since they didn't play it the first time I saw them. I left during "Solara" because I thought that was the last song, but I heard the Dumbo song from the parking lot. Weird-ass show, totally worth it.

My friend was mad because he bought our tickets during the pre-sale and wound up spending over $300 for the 8th row while the rest of our friends bought their tickets much later and were able to upgrade to the first few rows for almost nothing. We had friends who paid $20 for lawn seats and upgraded to row 11 for an additional $20.

Yeah, I never buy early for the PNC because there will always be a way to get in cheaper. Either there’s going to be a price reduction or a special promotion or a Groupon or a discount code or free lawn tickets or an  upgrade or sometimes all of the above. I got free tickets to the Bush/STP show last Saturday then upgraded for $20, so they sent me a $20 off code for going to that show which I used for the Pumpkins, and now I have another $20 off code for going to the Pumpkins show which I will probably use to see Judas Priest.

I bought a last minute ticket to see Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson tonight. I finally get to see Thundekiss live!

Looking at the setlists, looks like Zombie isn't playing anything past the Sinister Urge which is for the better. I mean, who the hell wants to hear shit from "Educated Horses"?

Frank Mullen is doing one more tour with Suffocation before officially calling it a career. They're coming around Boston on October 22nd, and it'll be my girlfriend's first and last time seeing Suffo as they were meant to be seen.
Maybe the real deep state was the friends we made along the way.
