Pretty much google is the only way to do it, since FF is kinda sagging in popularity.

So 8 days ago, we get to Houston and park the car not too far from Minute Paid Park - in fact, this is some of the best price to distance parking we've ever had on one of our trips. Walking to the ballpark, I look through a window and make out some neon Pac-Man themed lighting on a wall, kind of like this but I'm dealing with sun glare on a window and don't see much inside.

So, I just see the Pac-Men lights and not that row of pinball machines. The building looks kind of big, but also appears to be old and attached to a bar so I think nothing of it, figuring many business may be inside...

Nope! It's 100% dedicated to old arcade games and pinball machines (with the bar I saw being part of it) and has a whole bunch of them.

http://www.joystixgames.com/showroom.asp

Our annual trips are so tightly planned there was really not much time for this, but knowing what I know now, I totally regret not slipping in to play some pinball or Super Pac-Man.

I haven't seen a real arcade in years since Game Works closed in Auburn Hills. Now you just get these shitty ones with a couple of arcade games and a bunch of Chuck E. Cheese ticket games.

I miss arcades. I remember having a ton of fun at them with buddies as we tried to see who could get the farthest on 1 quarter. Though, now it'd probably be 2 bucks.

My hometown had a Nickelcade with like a three dollar entrance fee and the games where a nickel or maybe two (DDR I think was the only one that cost a dime) they gouged you with food prices, but it was an awesome way to kill a couple of hours.

This might as well go in bitch about something tech edition, but Ace Attorney 5 is apparently only getting a digital release in the US. No cartridge.  FUCK. I'll still buy it, but this does not make me a happy Smues.

:( Probably should. No physical release? Really? That's one way to kill the market. I know a lot of people still don't like to do the digital buying, or who won't buy to stick to them because they didn't release a physical copy. So you are going to kill a chuck of sales that way.

Especially considering Nintendo's online services are not optimal. I'm hesitant to buy digital in the first place; if the stuff is $20-30 and pretty much tied to the hardware, there's no way I'm buying.

That said, if that's the only way the game gets a release outside of Japan... it's better than nothing. (No idea if that's the case or not.)

I can't decide which is worse. Listening to "faith based organizations" on the subject of violence in media, or the tried and true idea of "LET'S TAX IT DUR HUR" solution.

Free Steam code for Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3. The site might be overloaded, or not quite working properly. Give it a few seconds after entering the CAPTCHA. If it doesn't work the first time, give it another shot.

Also after you enter the CAPTCHA, look above it for the code. I thought I would go to a separate page for the code.

I check out the Cutting Room Floor every now and then to see what new stuff they've added. The majority of stuff (at least for the games I care about) is fairly uninteresting.

Humble Indie Bundle 8 is available now.

http://www.humblebundle.com/

Awesomenauts (with exclusive "chicken skin" DLC)
Capsized
Dear Esther
Little Inferno
Thomas Was Alone

And if you beat the average (currently $5.67):
Hotline Miami
Proteus

Pay what you like, to whom you like, including the EFF and Child's Play Charity.

Includes DRM-free downloads of each game for Windows, Mac, and Linux; Steam key(s) if you pay $1 or more; as well as soundtracks for everything except Hotline Miami (though from my experience, the entire soundtrack is available as .OGG files in the Steam install folder).

The post is just a few up, but also still available for another 2 days-ish is the Alan Wake Humble Weekly Sale. Which is straight-up pay-what-you-want for both complete Alan Wake titles, and a whole whack of extra content—some of it new for this bundle.

Same here. I have several circa-2001 issues that I keep handy for when I'm on the shitter. That's the golden era for EGM, IMO.  I think my favorites are the Gameboy Advance launc issue and the Twisted Metal Black preview issue from January 2001 which had 74 (!!!) game reviews!

If there's anything really cool maybe you should take a look at them for the site.

I liked getting the ones with the demo discs of games. I got one with Jedi Knight Dark Forces II and played it constantly.

You know, I can't remember which game it was, but there was a game I demo'd from one of EGM's demo disks, and I swear it played better than the actual game itself.

Now I can't think of it. That's going to drive me nuts.

I really liked seeing the game reviews and the mini paragraphs describing the scores given in EGM.  I also loved the preview stuff for games coming down the pike as it was a nice way of getting hyped early.

When you've owned multiple consoles have you played them all or really just focused on one? For me it seems I've always just focused on one.

I started with an NES and played that thing into the ground. Then I got a Genesis but when I got an SNES I forgot the Genesis existed. Then I got an N64 and played it a bit, but when I got a Playstation I forgot the N64 existed.
Then I got a PS2 and played the wheels off of it. I bought a Gamecube in that time, but that system sucked ass and I barely played it. Then I got an X-Box and never touched the PS2 again.
Then I got a 360 and sold all my other consoles. I got a Wii in that amount of time, but hardly ever played it. Hell I got the Wii before the 360 and STILL played the regular X-Box more.

I guess I'm just a one console kind of guy.

Man looking back on that I think my dissatisfaction with Nintendo began way back in the 64 days.
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

I go back and forth depending on what game I'm playing. I didn't play much on my PS3 for about a month when Monster Hunter 3 came out on Wii U.

To the best of my memory...

-I started out with a Sega Master System in 1987 or so. I still have my original system (and a back up).

-Atari 2600 sometime after.

-I got my NES probably 2 years later. The SMS took a backseat.

-Turbografx 16 came next. I don't think I had it very long

-After that I had a Genesis at my mom's house and a Super Nintendo at dad's. I played the SNES much more.

-I got my Playstation 1 before the N64. I want to say I was pretty back and forth and played them evenly. I still have my original N64

-I owned a Gameboy Color somewhere in the middle of all of this.

-Bought a Dreamcast at launch and loved the hell out of it. I stayed up way too late playing Phantasy Star online. I sold it out of spite when they announced that Shenmue 2 wasn't going to come out for the system

-I ended up getting a Playstation 2 at a flea market shortly after it came out for $200. Fell off the back of a  truck kinda thing. It was my first DVD player. I played the hell out of it

-Picked up a Gamecube. I think I just had RE 4, Viewtiful Joe, and maybe one other game. Got rid of it shortly there after.

-Got a DS Lite for Christmas I want to say 5 years ago.

-I picked up my Xbox 360 probably 4 years ago. Really like the system, but working full time, I don't get to play it so much.

-Bought the fiance a Wii two Christmas' ago. She wanted it, but never plays it.

Right now I have: NES, SNES, Gamecube, N64, Wii, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, DS Lite, Xbox 360

My mom still has my old PS1, Gamecube and N64 in a closet in her house.
I have no clue what became of the NES, Genesis and SNES. I sold the PS2 and X-Box to get extra money to buy my 360.

I'm seriously considering at this time trading in my 360 once I finish the last few games I bought for it. Everything else I want to play is multiplatform and I'm more interested in PS+ and what it brings on my PS3. I could use the money from the 360 and games to buy a few more PS3 games (like Skyrim GOTY).
I want to get rid of my Wii, but want to make one more run through the Gamecube and Wii Fire Emblem games. Plus I just feel like when my son is old enough to understand gaming he'll want to play that. The learning curve seems to be less steep.
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

I started with NES then SNES.

I skipped the N64 and went with Playstation, and then Playstation 2.  During that gen I picked up a GameCube and an xbox along the way...gradually gravitating toward the xbox mostly.  Enough that I gave my GameCube and PS2 t friends when I had stopped playing them.

This gen I got a 360 and a PS3 and favored 360 so much that I loaned my PS3 to a friend years ago and never bothered to take it back.

I have a pattern of getting on board with a system, then loving the superior second gen from them (nes to snes, ps to ps2, xbox to 360) and then moving on.  Which leaves me wishing there was a brand new company making consoles so that the next version of it would rule.

I got an Atari 2600 in 1983 during the Crash when plenty of games were available for dirt cheap.

Got an NES in 1987 or so and GameBoy at launch.

Got an SNES for my birthday in 1993.

Got an N64 at launch and PS1 when Final Fantasy VII came out.

Got a PS2 at launch.

Got a GameBoy Advanced in 2002.

Got a GameCube in 2003.

Got a Wii at launch, then a DS a year later.

Got a PSP in 2008 and then a PS3 during the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Got a 3DS as a Christmas present in 2011.

I've been playing video games for what feels like forever.

I had Atari, nes, snes, PS, PS2, and now 360. I've never seen the point of getting more than one console per generation as 90% of the games are the same, with the PS/N64 generation having the biggest difference.

The last time I felt there was any reason to do so was the ps2/GameCube/xbox geneation.  Ps2 was the big one to have...but the other 2 rose up with some amazing exclusives like resident evil 4, eternal darkness, halo and KOTOR.

I'm getting ready to move, but as of last week before I boxed everything up, I had the following all connected to my 40" Sony LCD:

NES
SNES
N64
Wii
WiiU
XBox 360
PS3
Sega Genesis
Sega Dreamcast

My first ever system was an Atari that one of my Dad's coworkers gave him.  I received an NES for Christmas when I was 7 or so, but that was the end of my parents buying systems for me, or even games for that matter.  SMB was included with my NES, but I also got Skate or Die.  I was forced to rent games growing up because my Parent's thought was, "you don't need any more games.  You have two games already.  Play those".

After that, my Dad told me that if I would save half the money for an SNES, he would pay the other half.  That's fair.  It took me about 9 months to save half the money, but I got my SNES and never looked back.  After that, I saved my money for an N64, which I wanted purely for Mortal Kombat Trilogy.  My Dad was so impressed I saved the $200+ for the system, that he got me MKT for Christmas.  I saved up for a PSX shortly after and played those for the next couple of years.

I bought a Dreamcast on launch day, then did the same with the PS2 the following year.  The year after that, I bought a Gamecube shortly after launch, and an XBox in early 2002.

I bought an Xbox 360 about 8 months after launch.

My first PS3 came about 6 months after launch.  I worked at a Gamestop, and a customer was trading in his 20 GB system.  He was only going to get a little over $100 for it, so I told him if he came back on payday, I would give him $200.  This worked well for me, since they were still $499 at the time.  I have since bought an origjnal 60GB system and upgraded the HDD to 500 GB.

I didn't get a Wii until 2011, and bought my WiiU on launch day.

My brain hurts from remembering all that.

I find that the Nintendo systems are different enough from Sony/Microsoft to warrant a purchase.  With Sony/Microsoft the exclusives are minimal so not much point having both.

I find that the Nintendo systems are different enough from Sony/Microsoft to warrant a purchase.  With Sony/Microsoft the exclusives are minimal so not much point having both.

I felt that way, but now that I have had a 360 for so long and just recently go a PS3 the exclusives for the PS3 feel like a whole new world. I've tapped out the 360. I'm at the point where I'm going to sell my 360 and play exclusives/multi-platform on the PS3 for a long time.

I bought my PS3 in February and hadn't owned a Sony system since my PS2 in 2007. When I picked up the PS3 controller I said "Hello old friend, long time no see". I think it's awesome the controller design stayed the same.

The only systems I ever got at launch was a Gamecube. Everything else came shortly after launch (N64, PS2, Wii) or well after the system had been out for a while (NES, SNES, Genesis, X-Box, 360, PS3).

I have never owned a handheld system. I find it weird that I never owned a Dreamcast either. I have friends that still play it and swear by it.

What system disappointed you the most? For me it has to be the Gamecube or Wii. I was excited for both and have touched them both barely at all (GC actually gathered more dust than Wii). Conversely I was pleasantly surprised by the original X-Box. I didn't expect much out of it and was blown away.
I think back on the days of the 64 and think I was disappointed, but I had some great days with that system. No Mercy anyone?
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

We guess it was inevitable: veteran game designers who worked on the likes of Rage, the Call of Duty series, Lost Planet, Madden and Planetside 2 are working on an "Erotic Adventure" game for Oculus Rift.

Called Wicked Paradise, the game is based on the principle that "Instead of watching an erotic movie or reading an erotic book in which the main character has exciting sexual adventures, you become that character!

"Imagine playing Leisure Suit Larry but instead of watching a screen, you are inside the game," it reads. "Imagine the world and its inhabitants look highly realistic. Imagine walking into a bar in Wicked Paradise, noticing a beautiful lady, talking to her, and seducing her." You can guess the rest - there's more info on the official site.

This was always going to happen, we suppose. Wicked Paradise is planned to release in 2014, at the same time as the Oculus Rift itself.

It could actually work and sell. Obviously putting it in video game stores is not going to happen or I wouldn't think they could get them in. But the market is there and if the game has effort enough to basically be novella porn, it will sell with a niche audience.

Hell, how many online gaming communities actually exist for this type of stuff? It's not a small number I wouldn't think. I know Second Life had that area, not sure if it does anymore because it was a boring game to me just walking around.

It begins...

Torchlight is currently free on GOG.com, until Thursday.

You may have to sign in and add it to your cart, or possibly refresh the store page to get the right price to show up. It worked for me.

http://www.gog.com/news/2013_nodrm_summer_sale_begins_on_gogcom

Looks like this is the start of a sale event. Alan Wake is currently 90% off, if you missed the Humble bundle, or Steam sale. And a bundle of Dungeons & Dragons games for $21.10—including Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape: Torment...
