Apparently crock pot deep dish pizza is a thing that exists, which makes me want to get a slow cooker...

How is the pretzel fad just now coming to the world of pizza? Remember the pretzel bun craze that swept through the chain-restaurant industry in 2012/2013?

I suppose it could be worse. Like this Subway spot from last year:

Tried the Little Caesar's Bacon wrapped pizza. Very let down, it's very overrated. It doesn't taste bad but it does not taste good enough to justify the calories and bloating. Here it's $12.99 - plus tax. It is 8 squared pieces. I'm a fatty and filled up on two. Was able to stretch it over 3 days.

The only gimmicky one that has my attention is the pretzel stuffed crust, mainly because I am a sucker for pretzel rolls.  I can't even remember the last time I had stuffed crust.

Lately, I've been making my own pizza instead of getting takeout anyway.  About two weeks ago, I cooked up some fresh chicken sausage, threw that with pepperoni and cut up some green bell peppers to go on top too.  That was fine by me.

Waited for about an hour to get a pizza from Marion's last night. Popular local chain, they were celebrating their 50th Anniversary and Sunday through Thursday all pizzas were 50% off. The place was packed and I overheard the place had to take the phone off the hook because they were so busy. But it was worth the wait for my 13" sausage for 7 bucks. Square cut, tangy sauce and lots of cheese and tons of crumbled sausage all over.

I can't understand what's so shocking.  I was just very hungry for that edge to edge sausage. I gobbled it up good. Certainly got my money's worth.  :o

So I made some pizzas yesterday using bisquick for the dough. Found out very quickly that I just need a small little bit of bisquick to make a pizza. The first two I made ended up becoming like pizza cakes. Third turned out exactly as it should. Thankfully, the first two I made weren't failures, but scrumptious. So I'll need to make sure I don't make the same mistake next time I use bisquick.

So what do we think of these new-wave, build-your-own pizza spots? I liked MOD Pizza when I went and there's gonna be a Blaze Pizza (backed by LeBron James) opening near me soon.

There's a chain popping up out here - Fired Pie, which I really like.  There's some others that seem smaller business, maybe more local, that are alright.  A Blaze is being put in across the street from Fired Pie near my work and it will make like the fourth different one in one mile.  Spotted a different new one in walking distance yesterday and almost went but I already had my mind set on Jimmy John's.

Um....what's the point? Aren't basically all pizza places "build your own" in that you just tell them what you want on your pizza? Never been to a pizza place that wouldn't make me a pizza with any toppings I asked for.

I mean, if they got more options for toppings, that's cool, but I still don't get it.
But that's the way I like it baby

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.  The only difference that I saw was that the assembly line for the pizza was right there a la Subway, so I guess you could make sure that they didn't fuck anything up.

I went to the Blaze in Allen Park last week. I enjoy that the toppings are free, and it's pretty good and quick.

Having said that, my father recently returned from his winter hibernation to Mexico so we went to Shield's Pizza and that's still the way to go.

I guess the appeal is that it's cheaper, quicker, and maybe fresher? It's about the experience.

Look at all these frozen yogurt places now where it's self serve. Granted, the servers at the pizza places still handle the food before you get it, but seeing the toppings makes it more interactive I suppose.

Is it? This is a legit question. How much does a large pizza cost?

I've read that for around $10, you get unlimited toppings for a pizza that's probably a bit bigger than the standard personal pan size (don't quote me on that though).

Went to the new place I mentioned last time.  It is called WisePies with like a mob theme and it is awesome.  I usually don't stray from marinara on my pizza but they had a Green Chile Alfredo, so I tried and it was fantastic.

There's another local pizzaria here called Dewey's. It's located just off campus near the University of Dayton. I had seen it many times but finally went there yesterday. Just pizzas, salads and calzones on the menu, nothing fancy or extra. They had a meatball speciality with fresh mozzerella and basil on it so I ordered that. Really good, rustic crust thin but not too thin. And not greasy which was nice. Very tasty, a little pricey but I can understand why. Still have half of it waiting at home for dinner tonight.

Best of all, they have a Specialty of the month. Some of their specialties have pop culture names, well this was a Taco/Mexican pizza called- The Tito Santana.

My town is getting a "Your Pie" pizza chain. My old boss from my food industry days is "managing partner" and it seems they offer pizza with dairy free cheese.

Anyone have this chain in your area? Please inform me of what's good. Seems to be a subway type set up.

Sounds like every fast serve customized pizza establishment that has sprung up the last half decade and has completely congested the market.

However, most of them are very good for quick service and generally very cheap and most places such as Blaze (probably the most known of these newly established chains) the toppings are plentiful and the price point doesn't change.

Edit:. Looks like we already broached this subject in this very thread.     Looks like the world of pizza needs something monumental to change the game.  Has Pizza Hut found anything else to shove in the crust lately?

I'm surprised they haven't found a way to put cheese in the dough, underneath the sauce. Maybe someone has.

Yeah, Saints - I don't have "Your Pie".  There is one called "My Pie" and about six others I can think of locally with that Subway set up (Wise Pies, Blaze, Fired Pie, MyPie just off the top of my head in a one mile radius from my work).

I've had good experiences, like some better than others.  Most of them let you, like Subway, put whatever topping on you want.  There were one or two that would charge per topping.  They've either adapted to match their competitors or perished. #Evolution

as for 909, that is a surprising thing but I wonder if there is some health code reason.  Wouldn't think it would be too much different than stuffed crust but with all the weird stuff they do, have to think it didn't test well or work or you should go to the patent bureau now.

Not quite the same but I've seen fried cheese as the base of a pizza so maybe that is the next evolutionary step in pizza, just getting rid of dough altogether.

Whoever came first, "My Pie" or "Your Pie" I'm wondering how the second company naming person can look his or herself in the mirror with that naming decision. Knowing how the people operated the store where I worked in college they're going to probably charge for every last gram of product. They milk every single penny they can, that the parent company allows.
