what a festering piece of shit

Quote
Multiple people told NBC News’s Carol E. Lee that Trump called (FBI Dep. Director) McCabe the day after Comey’s firing; he was reportedly furious that Comey took a government-funded plane back from Los Angeles to Washington, DC, after he was let go. (Comey is said to have learned from TV coverage that he was out of a job.)

According to NBC:

Trump demanded to know why Comey was allowed to fly on an FBI plane after he had been fired, these people said. McCabe told the president he hadn’t been asked to authorize Comey’s flight, but if anyone had asked, he would have approved it, three people familiar with the call recounted to NBC News.

This answer apparently didn’t sit well with the president, as according to NBC, he went “silent for a moment” and then laid into McCabe, “suggesting he ask his wife how it feels to be a loser.” The dig was an apparent reference to his wife, Jill McCabe, and her failed Democratic campaign for Virginia state legislature in 2015.

McCabe responded “Okay, sir.” Trump reportedly hung up on him.

Who can I bill for whiplash sustained trying to keep up with the GOP's opinion of law enforcement?

Judging by my Twitter this memo and lack of Russia sanctions is the death of democracy and the beginning of Trump's dictatorship.
I'm not entirely sure why it's a news story that, again, Congress produced a sanctions package which the White House tried to blow off. The voting margins will override any veto the president attempts, and if he does try to veto this then it's not a good look for the Russian investigation.

Paul Ryan is also warning Republicans not to go crazy over this memo but it'll be used as a cudgel by House Republicans as evidence of a vast conspiracy against their party and president, an avatar of bankrupt humanity. The ~30% will lap it up but I'll bet not much of substance can be found in it without imposing one's own narrative.

I honestly have no idea why he doesn't just fire him because there 100% won't be a single consequence. If anything it will help him in the longterm because there has to be some lame duck he can appoint who will just $hut up about it. I mean, I'm VERY glad he hasn't done that but it's strange that he hasn't.

Because his handlers have convinced him it would make him look bad if he fires him, and Trump's overriding though process in any decision is "how does this make me look?"

That...and the AG is the only one with authority to do so. Even the AG's hands are tied by requiring due cause. So long as Mueller remains impartial he's fine.

That's why the keep trying to smear him. To get him to fuck up.

Also, concerning the state of the union, it was quite surreal watching the Republicans just ramp up full fascist mode.

Actually, the Dep AG since Sessions recused himself. And Trump has already been going after him (Hot Rod Rosenstein).

I like to go to CNN.com, read headlines then go to Foxnews.com to see how those same headlines are done.

Basically according to CNN the memo is a bunch of nothing and makes the Republicans look bad for even releasing it.

Per Fox News this is huge and exposes corruption and democratic bias all over the intelligence committee.

I feel like Trump is going to find a way to use this memo to fire Mueller and the Republicans aren't going to do a thing.

How much chaos would there be if Trump fired Mueller and Rosenstein and then the Republicans refused to do anything? Would anyone anywhere have any recourse at that point?

It's neat how they use the same mouth to talk of their highest ratings and how they're also some kind of underground alterna 'zine or something.

And, yes, there is recourse if the Great Tweet Machine does that. It will require the American voter to figure out how to behave at the polls this November, though.

Wow, that was letdown. Read the memo and it is so hilariously bad as "this will end everything ". There's no evidence in there. There's no mentions of Mueller or really of anything of substance. It is an opinion piece that is talk from staff members of the Republicans to the bosses. That's all it is.

Sadly people will believe it amounts to something, but really. It isn't anything at all.

That's what I'm wondering if the memo is just an excuse. Like do Republicans and their supporters even care what it says or are they just going to use it as an excuse to shut the investigations down?

I can't find anything particularly damning. It's worded in such a way to insinuate lots of nefarious things about the FBI without actually making any concrete claims. I guess it's kind of damning that Steele (the investigator/former British spy who wrote the dossier) hated Trump. But that's not really surprising since he probably thought Trump and his campaign were doing treasonous stuff.

The other amazing thing is that Nunes and Trump have hitched their wagon to the idea that surveillance of Carter Page, possibly the dumbest, most obvious spy alive, was bad.

FOX was on it yesterday. The dude said something along the line of that this is a temporary hiccup as evidenced by the fact that the market dipped 1600 points- then came back some. He did say that Trump needs to stop talking about the market because it upsets investors.
The crazier parts of Twitter are blaming Democratic  billionaires and the deep state for intentionally sinking the markets to embarrass Trump.
Hannity: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/sean-hannity-blames-obama-stock-market-drop_us_5a791428e4b018ad894f229c

Quote
“Because the Obama economy was so weak all of these years, we had just artificially cheap money,” Hannity said, referring to a Fox News analysis he had seen on the cable network.

He explained that “cheap money” is from borrowing at “ridiculously low rates,” which he added must now end.

“The government has artificially, the Fed has artificially, kept the price of money down and the price of borrowing down, and now that’s going to come to an end.”

Then, he declared that the plunge ― which saw stocks erase all their 2018 gains ― is actually good.

“In many ways, it’s a sign of the strength of the economy more than anything else,”

House Democrats on Thursday introduced the "PARADE" Act — otherwise known as the Preventing the Allocation of Resources for Absurd Defense Expenditures bill — which aims keep taxpayers from footing the bill if President Trump's dreams of a military parade do, indeed, come to fruition.

Bernie's college plan cost $47bn. A more ambitious one where the feds picked up the whole tab, rather than states covering a big chunk, would cost $70bn. The Pentagon just got $80bn (on top of its existing funding) in the new spending bill.

http://www.cnn.com/2018/02/12/politics/jeff-sessions-anglo-american-law-enforcement/index.html

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday brought up sheriffs' "Anglo-American heritage" during remarks to law enforcement officials in Washington.

"I want to thank every sheriff in America. Since our founding, the independently elected sheriff has been the people's protector, who keeps law enforcement close to and accountable to people through the elected process," Sessions said in remarks at the National Sheriffs Association winter meeting, adding, "The office of sheriff is a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement."
