Title: MMA General Discussion 2016

New thread because it isn't 2014 anymore.

RDA's been outed as the third fighter fined by the UFC along with Cowboy and Nate Diaz for violating the dress code. He wore an Evolve MMA shirt at the weigh-ins. SMDH.

Nick Diaz's 5 year ban and ridiculous fine turned into a 18 month ban and a $100k fine. They couldn't get him on the test results but they got him on not filling out the pre-fight questionnaire properly. He can fight August 1.

Wand's hearing got moved back a month.

The whole thing is so very typically NSAC.

If Diaz is fighting at 185 they should throw him in there with Vitor.

I'd watch the shit out of Diaz/Lawler II. Nick would be willing to cut to 170 for a title shot, and he might win too.

"BJ,
I received your poorly-worded, utterly predictable, message. In spite of its clumsy structure, awful spelling, incorrect usage (you state at one point that I wrote a poem about you making fun of yourself), and general air of arrogance, entitled stupidity, I'm considering your request.

There are, of course, some conditions.

- I'm never competing at 145 ever again. Neither should you. I came to this conclusion after doing careful research, and deciding what was right for my long-term health as well as my short-term performance. If you fight at 145, it won't be long before you're eating banana mush in a nuthouse. I am accountable to my family, and my future with them. Because you are an impulsive tyrant surrounded by yes-men, you have no ability to make rational, intelligent decisions.  So I am making this one for you. If we fight, it would be at 155.

- I'm not fighting in March. Neither are you. You may imagine you are, and the imbeciles you surround yourself with may nod in agreement like the trained dogs they are, but you aren't fighting in March. You've lied to your fans, and let them down over and over, and nobody is clamoring to put the BJ PENN EXCUSE FACTORY back in business. Were I to agree to fight you in March and whup your ass, it would only give you and your lackeys the "BJ didn't have enough time" bullshit excuse. Additionally, if we do fight, it will be on MY timetable, NOT yours. You are retired, and have no schedule. I am an active fighter, on the roster, with a schedule and training platform that is not beholden to your desires, grudges, or need for narcissistic supply.

- You still owe Mike Dolce $22,000. Knowing him, he is too gracious and dignified a man to revisit the traitorous back-stabbing skullduggery you engaged in with him after the third time Frankie Edgar kicked your ass inside-out. I, however, don't have the luxury of grace, and dignity is best left out of any exchange that includes you. You will donate $22,000 of your purse to the HAWAII DOG FOUNDATION,  a no-kill, all-volunteer rescue organization working hard to rescue and rehabilitate dogs in Hawaii, in Mike Dolce's name.

Give these conditions some thought. They are non-negotiable. They are rules you WILL abide by, or you can go whistle. I have a contract, and plenty of guys to fight. As a Narcissist, you have nothing but an image. And you NEED attention. You have all the money you could ever spend; but it doesn't satisfy you. I have what you NEED. I'M in charge. You can do what narcissists usually do when confronted by a higher power; SLINK AWAY. Or you can confront your needs, realize I can fulfill them, and come to terms with me, looming over you, holding the....

WHIP HAND.

I'm ALREADY in charge, you poor, deluded, fool. I did more to motivate you with TWO POEMS than all your yes-men, and titles, and highlights could.
Get as angry as you want. Go out behind your huge inherited estate and kick rocks. Go cry to your Mommy. Go shit in your hat and bark at the moon.
You want to fight?
Then it's on MY terms.
FACE IT.

Now run along, little man. Go find a way to swallow your overarching pride and do it MY way, or scuttle about like a deformed crab at low tide, like a masochist at last call, desperately looking for somebody else to thrash you.

You can go to Greg Jackson's, you can go to Jermaine Jackson's, you can listen to Mahalia Jackson, you can resurrect Jackson fuckin' POLLOCK to paint you a better picture of yourself than the one we all see; but...

You're an unclaimed, busted-down suitcase on a dusty shelf in an abandoned bus-terminal. Accept my conditions, or rot in obscurity.

Nik Lentz
Your BOSS"

FUCKING ETHERED.

Can Nik legit talk trash? Or is he only good when his stuff is thought out and written out? Connor and Chael can speak it instantly. Can Nik spit it or just type it?

And Wanderlei Silva has officially been released from his UFC contract.

This is ultimately what's good for the sport. The UFC has way too much power and they've used it to employ draconian regulations that are unsurpassed by any other sporting organization. I've never heard of an NBA player having to take their shoes off to be interviewed just because the NBA doesn't like the brand on them. That's bogus.

Our dreams of a UFC fight at Madison Square Garden this spring took a huge hit today as a federal judge in New York denied the UFC’s request for a preliminary injunction that would have prevented the New York attorney general and other state officials from enforcing the state’s anti-MMA law. On September 29 the UFC asked Federal Judge Kimba Wood of the Southern District of New York to issue the injunction while the promotion’s case against the law worked its way through the courts. That case, filed by the UFC on September 28, claims that New York’s prohibition of regulated MMA events is unconstitutionally vague.

I obviously would love MMA at MSG but Zuffa has done themselves no favours by booking events there before it's even legal.

"This is something that's very interesting," said Mayweather. "Like I've said before. We can forgive but sometimes we never forget. When no one knew who Dana White was, Dana White used to run around with me, hang out with me and I treated him just like anyone else in my camp.

"If you watch the beginning of my fights I had a patch on my trunk which was a Bullenbeisser dog. I wore the Bullenbeisser patch for Dana White, a little square guy. At that particular time I think the guy had a Honda, but I didn't judge him. If you were my friend I love you unconditionally. I like you the same way I like everyone else that's around me."

White has moved on to Ferraris and smart cars, but Floyd doesn't sound impressed.

"Now all of a sudden a guy gets put in a position, he shaves his head bald and acts like he's tough and rugged," said Mayweather. "That's not the Dana White I know. I knew Dana White as a good guy, good square guy. If I had to say so, he was a guy who went to college and didn't know anything about mixed martial arts or boxing.

I know why people dislike him with his arrest history, but Floyd is one of the realest motherfuckers around. We need people like him in the public sphere spittin' truth about combat sports, like him or not.

Henderson as a main eventer on PPV or TV (discounts his last main event fight on Fight Pass) -

Henderson vs. Thatch - TV Ratings: 913,000 avg. viewers (1.07M peak, 775k FS1 prelims)
Henderson vs. Dos Anjos - TV Ratings: 689,000 avg. viewers (962k peak, 113k FS2 prelims)
Henderson vs. Rustam - TV Ratings: 1.217M avg. viewers (1.562M peak, 812k prelims)
Henderson vs. Thomson - TV Ratings: 3.2M avg. viewers
Henderson vs. Pettis 2 - PPV Buys / Buyrate: 270,000 | TV Ratings: 809,000 avg. viewers (FS1 prelims)
Henderson vs. Melendez - TV Ratings: 3.7M average viewers (4.96M peak, 1.06M FX prelims) not sure of the placement, but up there in the top 5-7 ratings of any UFC on Fox/FS1
Henderson vs. Diaz - TV Ratings: 4.4M average viewers (6M peak, 1.2M FX prelims) the second highest rating of any UFC event on Fox/FS1 after UFC on Fox 1: Cain vs. Dos Santos 1)
Henderson vs. Frankie 2 - PPV Buys / Buyrate: 190,000
Henderson vs. Frankie 1 - PPV Buys / Buyrate: 375,000

Not much of a PPV guy, but did really well on TV ratings.

They had Benson headlining cards while making 50/50. I think it is clear who had the better end of that deal.

The UFC is being paid $90,000,000 a year by Fox to do those shows, plus they're pulling in gates, site fees, PPV revenue, and TV revenue from other countries. As a fan it is hard for me to accept the idea that they can't pay their fighters more. Granted, I don't know what Bellator is paying Benson. If it's 150/150 then that's a different story. The UFC did make a whole lot of money off Benson though.

In wrestling terms, this isn't WCW signing Hulk Hogan. This is WCW signing Brutus Beefcake. Yeah, he gets decent ratings but he's not a game changer.

"I think this is just the tip of the iceberg," Coker said on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "Fighters are fighting out their contracts. They want to negotiate. They really want to see what their value is. We're going to help them to define what their value is. It's always good for the industry to have more than one bidder."

Henderson announced his move to Bellator on Monday, and not many details on his contract have surfaced yet. His former employer, UFC president Dana White, claimed the UFC's offer was higher than Bellator's, but that Bellator offered more money "up front".

It is no secret that more than a few UFC athletes are unhappy with their current payscale and the compensation they receive from the Reebok sponsorship. According to Coker, we could indeed see more UFC talent look for better contracts over at Bellator, where they will receive a warm welcome.

"All these free agents that are out there aren't just testing free agency just to test it. I think there are other fighters out there that we'll get," Coker said. "I've always said we're going to build our roster from the ground up and then buy the free agents from the top down that we want. [...] By the end of this year, I think we're gonna have a really good roster on our hands and some really big fights ahead of us."

If you want to read some fantastic long-form pieces and interview looks up anything Chuck Mindenhall and Shaun Al-Shatti from MMAFighting.com have written, those two are the best in the game. Also the three part interview Stephie Daniels of Bloody Elbow did with Joe Rogan is fantastic. Joe gets a lof of shit for his commentary and some of it's justified but the guy is wicked smart and has very interesting views on things.

I like CM Punk and want to see him do well. But even I can't deny that the whole process is a joke. This guy hasn't trained in a few months, has one amateur MMA bout and a few boxing/kickboxing bouts from way back in the day.

I don't post much on the Sherdog forums, but something caught my eye today. Someone posted that since the WWE just announced an increase in revenue for the 2015 4th Quarter, the UFC/Dana White are stupid for not following the same model and getting rid of PPV's all together and turning Fight Pass into the Network.

I had some time to look this up and thanks to Wiki, this was my response to that.

Quote
The truth of the matter is that people still very much buy UFC PPV's and if they were to turn Fight Pass into the Network and show PPV's (even if they raised the price to $20), they would lose out on so much money.

Look at the numbers for 2015. The UFC did amazing this year on PPV with 7 out of their 13 PPVs (UFC 182-194) doing over 600,000 buys. Two of those PPV's (193 and 194) pulled in over a million buys EACH. The other 6 PPVs ranged from 115,000 to 375,000 buys.

Now look at the WWE PPV buys. The network was launched in February 2014. I'll start at WrestleMania 30 (April 2014), since that is around the time the Network started gaining steam. WrestleMania 30, the biggest show of the year, did 690,000 buys (plus roughly 600,000 subscribers to the Network).

The prior month PPV (February 14, around the start of the network) had 183,000 buys.

January 14 (the Royal Rumble, one of the biggest shows of the year and this is before the Network came out), pulled in 467,000 buys.

From January 2013 through December 2013, the WWE only had 3 of their 12 PPV events come in over 250,000 buys. Only 2 of those events came in over 498,000 buys (the Royal Rumble 2013 498,000 and WrestleMania 29, 1,104,000 buys).

The WWE PPV model was a sinking ship. Their PPV buy rates plummeted over the years. The year prior to the network, all but 2 of their events drew the worst numbers that the UFC pulled in this year.

Another argument about this is the amount of TV time WWE has per week, which generates a lot of income (and eventually material for the Network).

So in short, Sherdog is full of morons and the UFC won't stop using the PPV method until things go way way down.

As long as the UFC keeps having Conor/Ronda/Jones PPV spikes of around a million buys amongst their usual neighborhood of 300K buys, they're not going to give up PPV.

or what LOTC said.

Random list time:

Ten Biggest MMA "Draws" of the Past Ten Years (2006-2015)

This is cumulative (i.e. Lesnar headlined the biggest selling UFC PPV in history but GSP was around longer) and in no way scientific.

10. Chuck Liddell
9. Chris Weidman
8. Quinton Jackson
7. Randy Couture
6. Conor McGregor
5. Jon Jones
4. Anderson Silva
3. Brock Lesnar
2. Ronda Rousey
1. Georges St-Pierre

Title: Re: MMA General Discussion 2016
Post by: The Art of Rasslin' on February 11, 2016, 08:55:20 AM
I like that you give respect to the GOAT. Loyal Canadian sports fans propelled MMA to new heights, and Dana p. much killed the market. But there's been a break in Canadian shows for the most part it feels like, maybe they're trying to rebuild interest.

Chuck should also get credit for being a big draw relative to eras. His fights with Tito, plus the TUF fight with Randy were all big draws when they happened. I think selling 100k PPVs as well as a million buys and having them both be high is impressive. It shows he was a big deal when nobody knew who they were, and a big deal when everyone knew who they were (and a big reason why everyone ended up knowing, really).
Title: Re: MMA General Discussion 2016
Post by: AA484 on February 11, 2016, 09:55:34 AM
Yeah, but that's because the numbers are up across the board for MMA compared to 2006.  I guess Liddell was responsible for more buys but I also took into consideration Conor's influence in Ireland and among the Irish-American fanbase.  I probably also unintentionally undervalued some of Chuck's later fights where he got smashed in the first round of headliners.  I'm probably also biased towards newer fighters because they are fresh in my mind and I threw the list together pretty quickly.
Title: Re: MMA General Discussion 2016
Post by: The Art of Rasslin' on February 11, 2016, 10:25:37 AM
They are up across the board and I think that makes Chuck's numbers more impressive. Conor is working with a much better, bigger marketing machine than Chuck was and Chuck still had similar numbers. I would say Chuck was responsible for more of the buys because the UFC brand name was so much weaker back then. Conor had Weidman/Rockhold and Lawler/Rory, two big title fights. Plus Aldo was the divisional kingpin so that obviously added to his hype.

Nowadays with their promotion in all types of media, Fox coverage, etc. I think Chuck sold a million buys without any sort of hype special at all. Maybe one countdown show on Spike at odd times.

Also, I'm not necessarily arguing with you here just thinking out loud. I would throw in Tito as a big draw, I've argued on his behalf before. His ratings for the Ken fight are still one of the highest ever, even compared to what they get on Fox.

Also, Vance has clarified that when she says she supports them, that she simply believed them. She wasn't there, it's only the playboy model gf that was there at the time of the incident. She and Carrasco were far away in some other city at the time.

What she WAS verifying was that BJ was treating people like shit and that the shoot sucked. That's not right but totally different from a sexual assault allegation, and people were understandably confused.

"I don't like doing it," continued Cirkunov. "I don't like feeling it, because me, I'm the one who-- it's not like I just hear it, but I actually feel it, because once you do it, you kinda feel the vibration. It's not something I enjoy doing."

"It is what it is," said Cirkunov. "It's a fight."

Presently, Cirkunov is on the cusp of the UFC light heavyweight rankings. However, the current 205er is keeping a close watch on the middleweight division as well. Cirkunov claimed he can make 185 lbs easily and that he is considering all options.

He's a great guy, also with a great attitude about his place in the sport.

but if he dropped to 185 watch out Luke Rockhold. Luke wouldn't take him down, and if he somehow ended up on his back he's got a good guard and knows how to get back to his feet. But yeah, Rockhold won't take him down. He could KO him but I think Misha could still take that fight.

He's still untested against elite competition but I think at 185 he could run through a lot of the lower top ten guys and would be competitive with the best.

Jose Rivera, Democrat, 15th district
Quote
I can tell you having been raised in the South Bronx, I don’t know what you’re afraid of. You’re afraid of violence? When I went to a park, I was chased back to my neighborhood. And when I ran through my neighborhood, people said, ‘You’re a punk! You’ve got to fight back!’ I said, ‘But I’m a skinny kid! I can’t fight those big guys!’ You fight to win. Oh yeah, I learned how to fight to win. I would begin by surprising you. When you throw your first punch, I would already kick you below the belt. And then you hear my opponent say, ‘You don’t fight fair!’ No, I fight to defend myself. All that violence changed somewhat because of the civil rights struggle. People were taught, you’ve got to respect others no matter what they looked like. So I grew up in a violent society. Don’t preach to me. I’ve got the scars throughout my body defending myself so that I could survive to be standing here and listen to all of you concerned about violence and how it affects every other issue that we are concerned about.

Take your gay men fucking and shove it up your ass O'Donnell

According to Front Row Brian the reason Ariel was axed by Fox was because of the interview with Rory where he let him go on about free agency and also because he gave Bendo and Mitrione an outlet for their announcements about going to Bellator. Ariel said today on the mma hour that he was very disappointed that nobody at Fox tried to fight for him and according to FRB this was a situation where Dana and Lorenzo could have stepped in but didn't. I'm usually skeptical of the guy as far as his sources but other members of the media including Jeff Waggenheim and Damon Martin have supported it. A lot of fans want Ariel to get picked up by ESPN but they don't seem to care too much about mma.

Considering MMA is still in it's infancy in the mainstream, MMA mainstream media is even worse.  I imagine the integrity of most major outlets is pretty low considering they care more about access to the "event" aspect of the sport if they have a hunch a fight card will be popular and "something to talk about"

I think it's in part because the show is on Fox Sports 1. Nobody watches anything on there. Their method of promoting every season as the greatest ever is another problem, eventually people become fatigued to that.

This was the first time I'd watched an episode of TUF in years and I've still never watched a whole season. Claudia is nice to look at so that's a bonus, I'll probably keep watching.

The bout marks the UFC’s first ever women’s 125-pound fight, but is not the launch of a new division. UFC officials are looking into possibly opening a women’s flyweight division in the future, but until the time when or if such a division is permanently announced, there remain two women’s divisions (bantamweight and strawweight) and there will be no rankings set up for a 125-pound women’s class.

For the old school WEC fans, Blas Avena was found dead in an apparent suicide. He always seemed like a good guy, and I liked watching him fight back in the day. My immediate reaction to the news was that he must have been finished by strikes a bunch (which would be made worse by the fact that he was 6'3 and cutting to 170) and then I checked wiki:

http://www.gerweck.net/2016/05/15/rumors-on-cm-punk-not-progressing-well-as-a-mma-fighter/

Quote
There’s been a lot of speculation on CM Punk’s UFC future. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted this week that there are numerous accounts that say Punk has been working hard but he has not progressed well as a fighter. Punk has participated in live sparring sessions at the gym and there have been a lot of rumors about how he looked but it’s been consistently said that he has not fared well.

UFC originally hoped for Punk, who has had to delay his training at times due to back and shoulder injuries, to debut in the summer of fall of 2015 but injuries and the way he adapted to MMA cause delays. UFC then looked at having him debut on the June 4th UFC 199 event in Los Angeles but that was changed when Punk underwent back surgery, the same surgery Cain Velasquez had a few weeks before Punk, and Cain is booked to fight at UFC 200 on July 9th in Las Vegas.

The Observer also noted that the general feeling is Punk’s first scheduled opponent, Mickey Gall, will probably run through him. It was pointed out that while there will obviously be a lot of buzz when the fight date is announced, UFC has kept quiet on Punk and lately he’s kept a low profile, away from the media. The main reason behind signing a rookie fighter like Punk was the major media attention. Meltzer believes if too much more time goes by without a fight date announced, that will be telling of the whole situation.

http://www.gerweck.net/2016/05/14/ufc-fighter-i-dont-believe-he-deserves-to-fight-in-the-ufc/

Quote
Before his UFC 198 fight last night, ‘The Immortal’ Matt Brown took the time to slam CM Punk:

“I didn’t criticize him for having his surgery if it was something necessary to do. I criticized him for the fact that he’s not a fighter. He doesn’t deserve to fight in the UFC with no fights. I don’t believe he deserves to fight in the UFC based off the name he made in pro-wrestling and I think he’ll figure it out when he fights in the UFC, he’ll figure it out the hard way. Or he can listen to me and that’ll be the easy way to learn.”

Venator is offering Barnatt 30% of Mayhem's purse plus an additional 5K if he takes the fight.

I feel bad for Luke because the owner of the promotion seems like a complete nutbar who'll likely take it personal if he (Luke) declines to fight but it's completely unfair that he should have to go up against a guy who blew weight by 25 pounds.

Edit: Mayhem is out of the fight, Barnatt is now fighting an undercard guy who made middleweight.

Flyweight- 136 lbs
Bantamweight- 147 lbs
Featherweight- 158 lbs
Lightweight- 169 lbs
Welterweight- 185 lbs
Middleweight- 202 lbs
Lightheavy- 223 lbs
Heavyweight- 289 lbs

Womens Straweight- 126 lbs
Womens Bantamweight- 147 lbs

John Danaher posted this on facebook:

Quote
Off the mat: When most people think of the life of a martial artist, they immediately think of the time spent on the mat and in competition or fighting, since these are the most distinctive elements of the lifestyle. The truth is however, that no matter how tough your daily training regimen, you will spend many more hours off the mat than on. Accordingly, it is of the first importance that your lifestyle off the mat be paid as much attention as your performance on the mat. In this regard, I know of no better example than Georges St-Pierre. More than anyone else I know, he exhibited the martial virtues in every aspect of his life in ways that often made me, his so called teacher, burn with shame at the inadequacies of my own behavior. Throughout his career he carried himself in daily life with a warmth and generosity of spirit that endeared him to all he met. No matter how tired, stressed or absorbed he was was, he always had time for a smile and photo with his fans. Sometimes fan behavior was, whether from ignorance or arrogance, far below what it ought to be ( on some occasions to the point where I was ready to attack) yet always he was implacable and warm.

Picture yourself in his shoes. On a truly bad day - all you want is to be alone, and a crowd of people want to talk and take photos with you. Would you pass this test of patience and kindness? I know I would fail nine times out of ten. Yet Georges, to his everlasting credit, passed every single time for well over a decade. We live in an age where the most successful method of garnering attention in the game that can be monetized is through trash talking. The popularity of UFC stars today is determined largely through their ability to engage in disparaging talk about their opponents whilst arrogantly proclaiming their own prowess. The irony is that most of the athletes who engage in this behavior are not actually like this at all - it is all an act. Yet even as an act it runs contrary to the underpinning of the martial arts, which is to sublimate violence into a socially positive framework that keeps a citizenry strong and ready for challenges, yet avoids the antisocial elements of violence that can destroy the fabric of society. Georges could very easily have taken this route - it would have doubled his income and the viewership of his fights.

Yet he never did. He became the most watched and financially successful fighter of his immediate era without ever resorting to the behavior most associated with success in the industry. He stayed true to who he was and never put on an act that was neither him, nor represented the martial tradition that he stood for. This young man best represented the dichotomy of the martial arts. He fought the toughest men on the planet in the toughest sport, yet through it all remained a gentleman who exhibited all the social graces that take society forward for the better.

Most fighters work diligently on skills that make them feared. Yet he overcame them all whilst exhibiting behavior that made him loved rather than feared. One of many lessons this great man taught me is that ultimately it is far more important to be loved than to be feared. Fear lasts as long as you are the toughest man in the room and disappears the moment you are not. Love lasts much longer and creates bonds that the fearsome will never know. Always ask yourself of your daily regimen; how much of my training is to instill fear in others and how much to instill love? The life of the martial artist will never be complete without both

the GOAT

Bisping really wants to fight Hendo (of course) and...GSP? I think that would be an awesome fight, GSP could win it and for him to come back and take a title in a higher weight class after all that time off, the legacy cementing would be INSANE. I think that a lot of Bisping's quickness advantages would be negated, and GSP is a good enough MMA wrestler and strong enough to still get by Bisping's superb takedown defense. I would love to see GSP try to make history.

The Fedor card is on now. This guy Rasul Mirsaev is 15-0 with eleven finishes and he just brutalized someone but he also killed a man so he probably won't ever get into the UFC. It was unintentional, he punched some guy after a nightclub argument and that guy got killed after his head hit the pavement. Still they won't let him in, guess he'll have that Phillip Miller mystique now.

Fedor is sloppy as hell.  I mean I suppose when you are 39 and are getting paid, there is little reason to change what worked in the past, but you can definitely see how the sport has transitioned since he was in his prime.  His hands down bombard in with looping punches, attempting to beat opponent to the punch isn't going to cut it against the better HW fighters.

You could see cement head Maldonado waiting to counter. Any good camp would have advised him to stick and move. Maldonado can hardly be finished by any man on the planet. He still looked quick and with some better fight IQ he wouldn't have gotten caught and could pull out a good fight or two.

I love Fedor too much. Sigh.
Title: Re: MMA General Discussion 2016
Post by: NoCalMike on June 17, 2016, 08:30:25 AM
LOL Maldonado got jobbed. Ok maybe not....but Fedor did not look like he is ready, willing, or able to make a serious run in the UFC HW.  It has been a dream of MMA fans for a long time to see it happen, and who knows, maybe he will end up having a fight in UFC before all is said and done, but.....ugh.

Title: Re: MMA General Discussion 2016
Post by: Just Call Me Dan on June 17, 2016, 08:34:45 AM
Fabio fights like this often.  He's just a damned punching bag who won't go down, but he's never in great shape and he ate a lot and gassed.

At BEST this was a draw, but I'd definitely give Fedor 2 and 3.  Fabio just didn't do anything.  The commentator was stunned about it.

Fedor still has fast hands, but his defense is awful and I really with he'd have showed some grappling prowess as its been AGES since he's attempted to try and submit anyone.

Feels to me that some potential is still there but you have to wonder how seriously he takes things when he doesn't seem to have any sort of gameplan in there.

"It seems like an odd thing to say, especially coming from him. He should really stay in his lane on this one. He knows I pushed the UFC and USADA together. He knows my track record and I know his. I am not sure this is what he wants to talk about.

My cardio has never been an issue and beat his ass for several rounds at a time so again what is he talking about? He seems caught up in being fan friendly, easy to say I have bad cardio based on Lesnar fight. He knows I was rushed to the hospital and was near death, he was with me. That wasn't cardio and he knows it. While he has been deciding on his next hair style I have been steady woking on my trade and staying busy.

My back has been fine for over a year now.

I will indeed mop up the entire division. I have a plan for all of them. Even Cain. He knows that I have great wrestling, he knows I can deal with footwork and you have to come close to get a takedown. I will knock any HWT in the world out. If they question that call your matchmaker and lets lace em up.

I do not see that first part as complimentary. It is also typical Brendan or do I need to call him Big Brown? He insults the person and covers it with bullshit praise and you are left wondering what he really believes.

When the podcast is over and his fake friends are gone he wont have a friend here. If he has evidence of me having trouble passing a test he should man up and just say it. We can certainly have that discussion if he wants."

It's easy to take this as the truth when all that's being said is happening after the fact. Ray Sefo has been, as expected getting heat about it on twitter and he doesn't seem to be really ducking any questions about it. From what he's saying both guys wanted it and from what I can gather up until fight day itself Jones didn't say anything to the contrary.

Yair's punching needs work. That's the problem. Once the fight gets in range, he lacks power and the technique isn't too great either. He should be shooting for a TD.

I think they should continue to slowly build him up.

I feel like Gus needs to get out of #1 contender like fights and dip back into the challengers pool for a few. While the Jones and DC fights were close he's still lost 2 straight and 3 out of 4. Say he beats Jones, then he's still a guy that's lost 2 in a row. Certainly a win like that gets him a title fight. Maybe see if he can get past a Bader, OSP, or Glover right now first.

Paddy Pimblett won the Cage Warriors 145 lb belt by tko in less then two minutes tonight. 21 years old, 12-1 with really infectious charisma. Cage Warriors actually did a feature on how their past 3 featherweight champs  (Conor, Alers and now Alex Eglund) have all been signed by the UFC, seems like a lock if Paddy wins a few more he'll get the call.

In what has to be one of the quickest turnarounds between a fighter being released, winning outside the org and then re-signing Ben Saunders is back in the UFC. He armbarred Jacob Volkmann in under two minutes at a regional show the other week.

Well this sucks.  Been watching Inside MMA regularly for years. Always felt like an unbiased avenue for commentary on MMA, and it gave an outlet to fighters to come voice their opinion on various topics.  Was nice to have a program on TV that took the sport seriously and the people involved actually having knowledge about stuff too.  Next Friday will be their final show.

Bisping went on Ric Flair's podcast and did a PED rant and said that guys who use them are faggots. So a bunch of people in the UFC Canada and Asia offices have been laid off, I'm thankful I never tried to get a job there. They all seemed like lemmings drinking the Dana kool-aid, not recognizing how little autonomy they had in building their own market. Now execs like Tom Wright have been fired and have six years of market-killing performance on their resume, how did that ass kissing work out?

also found out about this:

New owners are just maximizing profit. The overseas cards were a mixed bag in terms of local gate and didn't do well in viewership. Despite being ridiculously fun the Bisping/Hendo card was their second worst buyrate of the year.

My life as well as my loved ones were put in danger. I cannot understand why someone would want to hurt myself or my family. I will do everything I can to ensure that we find out who committed this crime and that they are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I'm constantly defending my choice to stay in this city. Regardless of the crimes that have been occurring lately, this is my home. I really hope the city that I rep has my back on this one and helps by reporting anything they know about this. #teampettis #250k🔥

She talked about how she thinks that win or lose that the Nunes fight is going to be one of the last of her career. She looked completely shook and Ellen treated her like a 3 year old who'd skinned her knee and what's worse is that it looked like Ronda needed to be treated like that. For somebody who's the most dominant female fighter of all time nothing about what she said inspired confidence or made it seem like she has any long-term plans to be in the sport. Bet the house on The Lioness.

I can definitely see Bader going to Bellator. Holds a win over their current LHW champion and they could rematch him and Tito too. But is he a free agent now or in 90 days? I know Larkin's matching period has ended and he can negotiate elsewhere, not sure about Darth.

With the way he looked weighing in against Anderson he's incredibly lucky he didn't fight Jones. He would've been massacred.

I can't see them finding anybody not booked fighting Rumble assuming he stays on the card so get ready for Anthony Johnson vs Nikita Krylov for the interim belt.

Tonya Evinger's upset loss in Invicta has been overturned to a NC. She was caught in an armbar and stepped on her opponents face to get out of it which is a legal move and the referee forced her into a more neutral position which allowed the armbar to sink deeper and she tapped. She retains her belt.

My brother and I were talking about this recently. Where did all the submissions go lately? Seems like any submission wins now are guillotine or rear naked chokes. Not many armbars, other arm or leg locks, or even too many different chokes. Obviously ther have been exceptions  Is anyone else noticing this or has this anyways been the case and I'm just now catching it? Feels like you used to see more.

Leglocks maybe but there've been a few arm triangles on the last couple of shows and Zak Cummings hit a beautiful straight armbar from topside triangle control at the Belfast card which wasn't far back.

Cody has a nice skillset, but maaan does he ever come off as someone getting a title shot way too soon.  Cruz may not ever come close to finishing him, but I can see it being one of those 50-45 kind of score cards where Cruz just plays his usual games and Cody just looks lost.

Moved your quote just in case people wanted the threads neat.

I agree 100%. I kind of wish there was another contender to face Dom so TJ could have fought Cody to see how he faces a guy he may not have knocked out in the first five minutes. I think Cruz 50-45 is the most likely outcome. I'm torn because I hate all of Cruz's shit talking, but the name of the game is to not get hit and win, and he has mastered that.

I know he's already said similar things a few times before, but Dana White was especially crazy regarding Diaz-McGregor III today:

Quote
The problem with the rubber match is Diaz is a 170 pounder,” White said. “He's a massive guy. Conor is a very talented guy, he's very, very good. Every time he goes out there he looks better... [But] we should have never done it in the first place. That's what weight classes are for. They wanted to do it, we did it. They wanted to do it again, we did it again. They're 1-1.

The same ridiculous "Diaz is an enormous 170 pounder" argument as before, but this time the second part was maybe more revealing.

Quote
There's only so many of those wars you can be in in your career. It takes a lot out of you. Some guys go into wars like that and they're never the same after it. Look at Meldrick Taylor when he fought Julio Cesar Chavez. He was never the same after that fight. We've had those type of fights too. I believe that Rory MacDonald was never the same after the Robbie Lawler fight. That fight ruined him. I don't want to do that to someone special like Conor McGregor. It's just not right.

Sounds like he's afraid to let Conor do it again for fear he'll lose his cash cow.  Also hilarious that he completely wrote off Rory MacDonald now that he's gone. He's had one fight since Lawler and he's 27 years old. Maybe a little early to say he was never the same again.
