Title: NBA February 2019
Post by: THE TUGSTER on February 01, 2019, 08:11:18 AM
Melo was officially waived by the Bulls today.  Cue the Melo-to-Lakers rumors.

The Jazz have offered Ricky Rubio and their first-round pick to Memphis for Mike Conley.  Pistons are also interested in Conley

D'Angelo Russell is in the All-Star game for Oladipo.  At least the East coaches got their team right

Glad DLO made it

Interesting on the Jazz offer because I heard they had tried to get Jrue Holiday but were turned down

Are Bats so prevalent in the AT&T Center that the mascot has a Batman costume at the ready whenever he needs to chase and catch one? Manu caught one too back in the day.

Also I think Pops had more fun watching the Coyote catch that bat than he did during any of the Spurs' title wins.

I have watched from afar as the New York Knicks have made all of their moves, and it is obvious that they are setting up one thing.  It is time for the New York Knicks to make good with one of their legends, Carmelo Anthony.  People often forget that just six short years ago, he led them to a 50+-win season, and had them looking like perennial contenders, before the ill-advised hiring of Phil Jackson destroyed everything they had going.  Now, with Phil Jackson out of the way, I hope that this one proud franchise can start anew.  The New York Knicks need a savior.  Melo has something to prove.  Make it happen.

I have no idea what to think about any Rodney Hood trades as a Jazz fan. I really do think that Donovan Mitchell somehow stole his soul when he was on the Jazz. That said trading Stauskas, Baldwin & some 2nds isn't too bad of a trade for the Blazers even if it is a rental.

KCP, Kuzma, Ball, Ingram, Mykhailuk, and Bonga + 2 1sts for Anthony Davis and all the 1 year contracts they can get off of the Pelicans. Being Payton, Miller, Frazier and Diallo. Due to trade exceptions, they could actually just pull that off in exchange straight up for Davis, but I'm thinking that they'll take back as many expiring contracts as they can from the Pelicans to go after that third player. Or so I'd guess.

If the Bucks somehow get Davis, fucking hell.

Can't believe I wasn't too far off with that trade assumption about the Lakers are offering to the Pelicans. I just didn't think they would only want Davis + 1 back.

KCP for Jabari isn't a bad idea.

The Bucks have no first rounders or anything that they could trade for Davis. That list was a "send me here and I'll list teams that can't possibly deal for me" list.

Eh to me the Jabari train has left the station. He never wanted to defend on top of the multiple ACL tears (which sucks) and the questionable conditioning. It's pretty telling that a team that is one of the five worst in the league are ready to get off of a dude on a 2 year deal.

That said if I am the Lakers, why the hell not?

Lakers are gonna get him in the 2020 Free Agency anyways and will get a big free agent in the offseason. I think it works better in the long run since maybe one of Lonzo, Ingram, or Kuzma jump up to be a top 10-20 player and maybe Davis keeps getting hurt and it turns out they lucked out not giving up that much.

Boston ain't offering shit compared to the Lakers anyway. The proof is right here:

Like who the fuck are they really offering? This might turn out to be a blessing in disguise in some ways, this group with a Kawhi, Klay, Vucevic, or Kyrie would be really good.

The problem is that Magic is too thirsty for a star. The last reported offer with all five young players was the goddamn stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Is that serious?

Of course Kuzma is going to have higher point totals than Tatum and/or Brown, he takes more shots (and hits a lower percentage, especially on 3's). Boston has far more talent than the Lakers which makes it far more difficult for one player's stats to stand out with exception of Kyrie Irving, because he's a top 10 talent in the entire league. Tatum is also only 20.

I'd take Tatum over both Ingram and Kuzma.  Most wanted to least wanted:

1. Tatum
2. Lonzo
3. Ingram
4. Kuzma
5. Brown
6. Hart
7. Rozier

Come on, 909.  You and me, we are crew so I’ll look the other way on Kuzma, who often doesn’t have to share or sacrifice as much as Tatum does but saying Ingram is greater than Tatum at this point is a total homer call.

Tatum is the best individual player in either offer.  I haven’t scoped the draft picks but Boston still has some surprising good ones like the Memphis pick two years from now.

Ingram shoots at a higher percentage, so nah. I don't see it. Ingram needs to get better at shooting free throws though, then there will be a huge increase in his counting stats.

Ingram also shoots nearly the exact same amount of shots a game as Tatum and has a higher PPG.

He's only played more than 68 games twice in his career. And injuries with big men usually don't get better as they age. 4 first rounders plus the three best young players on a team is a ludicrous offer.

Time will definitely prove me right on the Ingram one. Shoots a better percentage with the same amount of shots per game and scores more. Also a good defender and passer. Still needs to gain more weight to become a better rebounder though.

And I watch the Celtics very often because I love to watch Kyrie, so this isn’t a case of not having watched the player in question.

On the Wall injury, he should be back "healthy" for the start of 2020-21 season. Probably as a shell of himself. He has already started to look diminished to me the past few years. Washington will then have three more years of that mega contract to deal with. Basically Washington should be in tank out mode for the next 3 years, hope Wall comes back and looks usable to a contending team.

I can see a big that doesn't need to use speed and explosion be able to comeback from that injury like Boogie has better than a ball dominant point guard.  Wizards are fucked.

He has a 35% FG allowed against elite scorers.

Everyone has someone they can’t guard and Fox is his guy, but look at Westbrook’s numbers against him this season. It’s incredible. His defense isn’t much worse than Jrue Holiday’s, now he just has to start scoring like him.

Grizz are also reportedly asking for “multiple” first-rounders for Conley, which seems steep for a 12-year vet that’s never been an All-star.  He also prefers to go to a team in the East

If the Kings think they have a better shot at spending more money in the summer of 2020, then it isn't awful; that said this feels like the Kings trying to hold onto/get into that 8 spot. Or they certainly over-value Harrison Barnes's value which is most likely the case.

And the Kings, while they are heading in a better direction, they have spent the last 3 off-seasons spending almost all of their cap room and doing it on alternate year deals that didn't put them in a place for a ton of cap space, which they would have had this year.

Think I've mentioned before how awful the Suns commentary/announce/studio team but they were extra awful with how delusional they are tonight

Jamal Crawford is getting close to some kind of record.  I think something along the lines of most career points to never be an All-Star, which has been a stat owned by Eddie Johnson, a longtime member of the Suns announce team.  This led to them talking about how Eddie is one of the greatest shooters ever and got screwed, blah blah blah.

THey keep Tom Chambers in the studio and when he isn't getting DUIs, is super full of himself and overestimates how good he was.  Yes, he had some good years, was a fringe All-Star but they started going off on how he is getting screwed out of being in the Hall of Fame.  They gave a list of guys that he had more career points than that are Hall of Famers, like highlighting he has more career points than John Stockton.  They proceeded to directly say that he should be in the Hall of Fame above Chris Mullin and Alonzo Mourning.

Yup. Doctor Internet tells me that Crawford will tie Johnson on his next made field goal, or pass him on a three.

I mean, Tom Chambers is deluded, but I can sympathize: until he retired, twenty thousand points was a "magic number" in the NBA. As of right now, there are only two players in NBA history who are "officially" retired with 20K+ points, who are eligible for the Hall of Fame, and are not in: Tom Chambers, and Antawn Jamison. All thirty of the other players to crack 20K who are HOF-eligible are in the Hall (Kobe, Duncan, Pierce and KG are not yet eligible).

Chambers and Jamison are going to be joined by Joe Johnson, once he officially announces his retirement.

I wonder what happens if the Bulls end up with the number one pick. Would they draft Ja Morant over Zion because even though they need a stud point guard desperately, I'm not taking anyone over Zion in the draft.

I really don't know what to think about the trade. Porter's still young and is a much better player than Portis and Parker. The contract is crippling but only for two seasons after this and the Bulls aren't gonna be good by then. They won't be a destination for a top 15 free agent until they ditch the front office. I'm gonna stay optimistic and he might actually thrive here.

Clippers trade Mike Muscala to the Lakers for Michael Beasley and Ivica Zubac

That trade basically signifies to me that they are gonna sign the 59 year old Melo man.

I was gone but I was gonna say that signing Melo would be better than what they had. They also would have had to renounce Zubac this summer in order to go big in free agency, so they traded someone who was already leaving, who was undeservedly taking playing time away from two better centers. I ain't mad.

Team LeBron

LeBron James
Kevin Durant
Kyrie Irving
Kawhi Leonard
James Harden

Anthony Davis
Klay Thompson
Damian Lillard
Russell Westbrook
LaMarcus Aldridge
Karl Anthony-Towns
Bradley Beal
Dwyane Wade

Team Giannis

Giannis Antetokounmpo
Stephen Curry
Joel Embiid
Paul George
Kemba Walker

Khris Middleton
Nikola Jokic
Ben Simmons
Blake Griffin
D’Angelo Russell
Nikola Vucevic
Kyle Lowry
Dirk Nowitzki

This was the draft order.  LeBron picked first on the starters, then Giannis got to pick the first reserve, then LeBron got first choice of D-Wade or Dirk.  They then swapped Simmons and Westbrook

Clippers waived Beasley

It was interesting seeing some of the traded guys already have big nights last night.  Dennis Smith Jr. had 30-some in the Knicks 15th straight loss, Bobby Portis had 30 in his Wizards debut and Otto Porter Jr. had a solid outing in a Bulls win.

Otto Porter Jr had a career high of 37 points tonight and along with Lauri being a double double machine lately, have made the Bulls fun to watch again. I'm hoping OPJ can keep it up and have an Oladipo type of career resurgence in Chicago. He's so damn good. Just his basketball IQ and knowing what to do as well as being a legit good two way player and a great shooter gives the Bulls so much to work with.

Title: Re: NBA February 2019
Post by: Joyful & Soyful on February 13, 2019, 04:48:22 PM
Eh, they are still like 5 or 6 games behind Atlanta and the lottery has changed and been made more even to prevent tanking. I don't see them passing Atlanta unless they go on a big win streak and most of their wins have been against the real dregs of the league. If they stay at the fourth worst record, they have a better shot at the number one pick than last year. From what I've read and seen the draft is really Zion and then a huge drop off. So, if they get Ja Morant or RJ Barrett or someone else I don't know what happens. They really need a Zion type to take them to the next level cause Lauri, Otto, LaVine, and Wendell are a solid core group.

So yeah, that would've been done by trading Davis and tearing everything down.

There was no disrespect.  The fact is simply that not all players are fit to play alongside the greatest athlete of all time, LeBron James.  And Michael Beasley is no exception.

Speaking of which, Anthony Davis said at All-Star weekend that the Celtics are in fact on his list of desired teams, after all.  Believe it or not, I am loving this news.  Remember that Geico commercial with the old man and the fishing pole?  Well, the greatest acquisitions are made when you dangle the golden carrot right above the people you wish to see fall short in life.  Then, just as they're about to grasp the opportunity, you reel that golden carrot in, add a little purple to it, and my promise is fulfilled of building the next great Laker dynasty.

Great game in Utah tonight as the Jazz beat the Bucks, 115-111.

Donovan Mitchell went for 46-3-6 & Giannis went for 43-14-8.

Bucks were on a road B2B; but I think if Bud would have played Giannis 2 more minutes they win this game. And he should have called more plays to Giannis in the 4th.
