Matches You Didn't Think Existed
« on: April 26, 2012, 09:11:31 AM »

A heel Vs heel match between Bastion Booger and Rick Martel. Whoever booked this is actually kind of brilliant. Martel's selling and JR and Heenan's commentary here is cracking me up.

Don Frye is the only celeb I've ever requested a picture with . . . he granted it. Him double-fisting beers all night mellowed him out.

--------------------------

I love this Haku/Barbarian vs Kato/Fuji match. Heenan gets some face heat. Fuji gets to be a complete asshole. Haku/Barbarian look a bit incompetent in how long it took them to beat a pseudo jobber and his manager.

It's a TV match so it ends with a non-finish, but it's a hell of a lineup on paper.

I get the joke and did laugh, but...

(MSG relocated to Rio for the night and the IC title was given a different name)

This was on ClassicsOD awhile back (also Vintage Collection) and I had no idea it had ever happened:

Charming that Stunning Steve Austin got off a whoopass reference in WCW. Also loved the screeching fans when Austin made his appearance.

I knew about Sting vs. Mr Wonderful from The Hulk Hogan Talk Show on SNL. Sting would be having none of it and got the 1-2-3!

I remember buying a random comp tape off of eBay like six years ago and one of the matches was the Barbarian vs. the Berzerker.  That tape had lots of Barbarian matches on it, which was strange.

Holy shit that commentary from Booger/Martel is fantastic.

Undertaker vs. Hakushi in Japan, October 1997.

If they threw enough money at the WWE, Undertaker vs. Great Muta in Japan would be the most awesomely fucked up melodramatic match ever.

Should I have been aware of this?  Because I wasn't.  Not a great match, not even really a good match, but an interesting clash of superstars from different cultures.  I didn't like how Savage conveniently stopped selling the knee for the finish, however.

This may not be the right thread for this video, as it is more of, look who was the jobber in this match before they got a contract.  One of Matt Morgan's squash opponents from his 2005 run was a 19 or 20 year old Zack Ryder.

Interesting to see that pop up.  Savage vs Hughes main evented the first live show I went to when my dad took me to a house show.

In The Dumb But Awesome Fantasy Booking thread I made a joke about Great Khali and Ric Flair being in the same match---not knowing that they actually had a one on one match! And it was for the World title no less!

Nobody's going to call it a workrate classic but this match is everything I'd want from a Khali-'00s Ric Flair match.

My first thought was they were giving Quake a post-Gimmick Battle Royal payday or something, but that match is from December! From HOTW.com:

Huh! Ya'd think that Foley would mention wrestling Andre in one of his books. I can't think of another example of an autobiography from a wrestler who interacted with Andre that didn't have some story about hanging out with him.

Well, maybe he does mention it The Hardcore Diaries or Countdown to Lockdown but like I'm gonna read those!
