Ciampa is getting neck surgery this week and is out of Takeover NY. No plan as of right now on what to do with the world title but I think Johnny Champion is in place. Makes the most sense considering everything.

Seems like the Takeover card is set after this weeks episode and the tapings tonight:

Spoiler: show
NXT Championship 2 out of 3 Falls: Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole (who won a 5-way to earn the slot)
NXT Women's Championship: Shayna Baszler vs. Io Shirai vs. Kairi Sane vs. Bianca Belair
NXT Tag Team Championship: War Raiders vs. Black and Ricochet (who won the Dusty Classic)
NXT North American Championship: Velveteen Dream vs. Matt Riddle
WWE UK Championship: Pete Dunne vs. WALTER

So....I kinda want Adam Cole to win at Takeover.  It's been UE's stated goal that they will hold all the gold in 2019 and they've kinda been on the downswing lately, so Cole winning in the same building that he debuted in would be cool.  I still think Johnny wins because that was the endgame all along, but if they want him on the main roster with Blackochet, I wouldn't be surprised if he loses but gets the big farewell ovation.

Advantage of only having ~1 hour a week: In the first 20 minutes of the episode they:

1) Announced Ciampa vacating the title
2) Set up the five-way
3) Announced the main event of Takeover
4) Had little hype videos/promos from all the five-way participants
5) Had Queen Cathy backstage interviewing people which allowed the Forgotten Sons to hype their match next week.
6) Aired a video on Ciampa going for surgery
7) Had a confrontation between Belair, Io and Sane to hype the women's title match.

That's efficiency right there.

A 6/8 Takeover was just announced for San Jose but the kicker is it's not the night before a big WWE PPV. The weekend is exclusively NXT's. Interesting.

Picked up tickets for an NXT house show in Bethlehem next month. Don't usually get floor seats to a show but this just ran $25 apiece. It's a familiar venue so I'm looking forward to it.

Watching this week's show. I loved Montez Ford's scream right before Rowe slammed Hanson onto him in the corner. I'm really curious on how Ford fares as a singles star. It's clear that he's gonna be the Shawn Michaels of the pair and he's athletic and charismatic enough to cover up the rest of his shortcomings.

Bridgeport, CT seems awfully random but they had to scramble to find a new arena after they bailed on San Jose because of the Saudi show.

I haven't watched the last few weeks.  It's the usual "roster getting gutted after Mania" doldrums.

I don't think it's 100% confirmed yet but it looks like Percy Watson might have quit NXT citing wanting to make a run for Hollywood. We'll see what comes of this.

I think he tried to get into acting in his last run and it was random when he was a cop doing very little in an episode of the most recent season of Atlanta.  Good on him for following his passion but if it doesn't work out, I don't really see WWE bringing him back again.

The NXT tag titles have been vacated by the War/Viking Raiders/Experience. Regal will make an announcement next week on what happens to them. I call either Street Profits or Forgotten Sons getting the gold.

NXT House Show Ramblings

I'm a casual watcher of NXT, rarely watch the Indies. So a lot of this talent was new to me. I had my wife with me and she's a decent gauge for a non-fan reaction.

Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) d. Dan Matha and Riddick Moss (w/ Robert Strauss)

Strauss was new to me but had tremendous heat. Looking him up I see that he was Robbie E in TNA. Seems like kind of a generic glasses wearing geeky indy manager. Moss didn't leave an impression. Matha looks like a long lost Basham brother but he's bigger than those guys. Given that he's relatively new, he could have a future. The Street Profits strike me as a Public Enemy type team. They're ok, can't see them ever carrying a division. WWE really needs to do better with gimmicks for POC though.

Kushida d. Drew Gulak (Submission Match)

I liked this. First time seeing Kushida. They worked a mat based style, almost an MMA match. A good change of pace IMO.

Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish d. Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan

I really don't understand the appeal of the Undisputed Era. They're fine wrestlers, but they seem dry as hell. And there's four of them? Lorcan was fine. I liked Danny Burch, who looks a bit like the Swedish Angel (the original, not Tor Johnson). My wife asked me why there were so many skinheads in wrestling. I told her male pattern baldness doesn't sell.

Candice LeRae & Io Shirai d. Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir

I heard Duke and Shafir were bad, but I had no issue with them in this. They worked a classic FIP with LeRae.  LeRae was just ok to me. Shirai I've only seen a few times, but it's obvious she is extremely good. First instance of fans yelling to kick a female in the balls, which is unfortunate.

Matt Riddle d. Roderick Strong

Riddle is from Allentown and attended East Stroudsburg University the same time I did. This is the point in the show where my wife became a fan. Riddle is terrific. Strong is competent.

Punishment Martinez d. Keith Lee

I really liked Lee, I feel like he's the kind of wrestler WWE could pop into the main roster and make things interesting. He's different. Martinez is a good veteran. My wife didn't like Martinez's look, she hated this result.

One thing I particularly noted at this point. Almost all these workers come in and have slow, exaggerated poses. It works once or twice but when everyone does it, it's forced. No one comes in with intensity, get this shit over with and let me fight.

Shayna Baszler d. Kacy Catanzaro

I've seen Baszler a bunch, she's tremendous. I would be hard pressed to think of many women who had better looks for a heel. She just looks mean, and she plays it so well. Catanzaro is over her head at this level but the skill she has is obvious and if you're running a wrestling company you would want to find a role for her.

Velveteen Dream d. Adam Cole

Dream is awesome of course. Cole has the most personality of the Undisputed Era, which is to say he has some personality. Fairly standard match, a This Is Awesome chant which made me think, really guys? I think my wife was turned off by the crowd at this point.

All in all a good show. Wrestling fans aren't my cup of tea though and I'd be hard pressed to say I would want to hang out with someone who sat ringside at a wrestling event. Who brings their own belt to a wrestling show? Who carries a prop wrestling belt at all. Are you serious?

Best thing about this was going into the casino afterwards, taking $5 and winning my ticket money back. Thumbs up.

If the Undisputed Era's NXT intro video wasn't great enough, it was even better the Kyle claimed he "threw it together" the night before

Exactly.

And for those who haven't seen it, they gave Punishment Martinez, now Damian Priest, a superstar entrance.

I like the Breakout Tournament and appreciate they included the FKA for all these guys where you can look up their past and not completely ignore it.  I know this is another concept they took from ROH but think it could be a fun tournament and a solid way to introduce some of these guys.  Like, I enjoy Trevor Lee (now Cameron Grimes) but I assumed if WWE picked him up he would be a lowcard 205 Live guy.  Despite all his upside, he just doesn't seem like a WWE guy so interesting how he fares in this thing.

I would not have pinned Mia Yim as the one poised to take down Shayna for the belt finally.  I guess good on her.  She works hard and a lot of people like her.  I just would've preferred Io, Candace or Bianca.

I know Xia and Tanaya were yapping back and forth on Social Media recently (mainly about which between the two of them and their races have better bodies) so I guess they were just trying to heat up this match they had already taped.

Ah shit Dream v Strong v Dunne for the NA Title at Takeover.

Cole and Gargano picking stipulations for a 2 out of 3 falls match with Regal picking the stip for the third fall is a decent twist on a tired trope, but 1) they already have done a 2 out of 3 falls match where the first two falls felt superfluous and 2) they're basically telling you it's going three falls so don't bother watching the first 15 minutes of the match.

After watching her on Ricochet's Chronicle and her few appearances on NXT, they have the potential for a NXT Bayley 2.0 with Kacy Catanzaro if they play things right.  She's actually....kind of a better promo than Bayley was already.  Also, it's nice that Candace LeRae is actually doing shit aside from whatever angles her husband is in.

They added LeRae vs. Shirai to Takeover.   That could be the sleeper match of the night if they just let them go.  At least they finally realized that Candace can be more than Mrs. Gargano.

We finally got the NXT Kaiju Battle between Keith Lee and Dominic Dijakovic this week and it was glorious.  It would have fit perfectly on a Takeover.  They're setting up some new stuff with Rhea Ripley facing off with Shayna as well.

Kacy Catanzaro apparently just quit the company.

She had potential to be a huge face in the women's division so this is a shame. Hope she rebounds with something good and hope the reasons for her leaving weren't awful.

That makes me sad.  She seemed to have some crazy potential and also seemed like the sweetest person in interviews.

I wasn't thinking anything shady was happening as doing something to her would also impact Ricochet.

Between her and Kylie Rae, two ladies with some big upside leave the business too early in short order but good on them if they can get out while they can hopefully be healthy in the long run.

Went to watch last night's NXT when I realized I never watched last week, despite it having all the hype Lee-Dijakovic and Street Profits-Undisputed Era.

Watching it now and that Rhea Ripley segment was perfect.  Made her look like a big deal and a star out the gates.  I know they taped it weeks ago but it made me wish they saved it for the USA debut.

Along with Dream-Strong, there supposedly will be women's title #1 contender match with Io-Mia Yim-Bianca.  I'd assume with some other TV in the can we can expect to see some changes with what actually airs.

As for Dream-Strong, it should be a good match, I like Roddy and the Undisputed draped in gold story... but Roddy seems like the wrong guy to dethrone Dream.  But no way Dream isn't getting involved in the main event after this.  Just a matter of when, as sure they will want to run with UE and the rumors that Ciampa is due back soon.

Onto this week's.  I like the new full-on stripper cops Breezango and thought newly packaged Team 3.0 looked solid in their debut, now that they are really part of the roster.  See how long they build up those uncomfortably long lingering hugs.

Her reaction video's to Ricochet's matches are legitimately the cutest thing in wrestling.
