I don't know why the Black/Dream feud is as compelling as it is.  Maybe it's the simplicity of the whole thing.

I do like how they aren't calling it Takeover: War Games yet on the actual show even though everyone and their mother knows about the match.

Yeah, that Black/Dream feud should not be working. On paper, it just seems so dumb. But both guys are doing great with it. I can't wait to see where it goes. I said from the start I'd love to see an old couple team.

I hate it.

I absolutely was behind Patrick Clarke 100% during Tough Enough. And he is showing that he's clearly very talented. But I hate this character for a wrestler. If he was a manager, great! I'm trying to keep an open mind about it, but from how Black's been booked versus how Dream's been booked so far, it should be no contest.

I think they could create some magic in the ring, given their talents, but so far I'm not liking it.

We shall see.

Even though I knew it was coming the ending with everyone brawling and Regal storming out saying basically "FUCK THIS YOU ARE ALL IN WAR GAMES!" was still a huge "FUCK YEAH!" moment.

Gargano/Aichner was also a damn good match that put Aichner over pretty strong while keeping up Johnny's hard luck storyline.

The rules are pretty insane. I'll spoiler them since I don't know if it's meant to be a surprise.

Spoiler: show
starts 1 v 1 v 1 and after five minutes becomes 3 v 1 v 1 and then another five minutes then 3 v 3 v 1 and then another five before everybody's in. Pinfalls might get a win, too, but I don't remember. I'm assuming Roddy gets left in there alone for a pretty rough ten minutes before AoP wrecks shit, though I also assume after the first group comes in the other two will be RELUCTANT PARTNERS to try and survive.

So Kassius Ohno vs. Lars Sullivan is suddenly a Takeover match but Pete Dunne vs. Johnny Gargano for the UK Title will be a pre-show taped for TV match.

That's.....odd.  You'd think it would be the other way around.

Zelina Vega has been watching her Paul Heyman tapes I see.  Now she just needs to bust out "Señoras y señores, mi nombre es Zelina Vega" and "Mi cliente Andrade Cien Almas"

So guys, I haven't posted here in a long time, but I watched the Wargames match last night. It was good in parts, but not sure if overall it was a good match, you know? Didn't hate it, but parts of it didn't quite click. I guess there were some spots that felt really contrived and that bugged me a bit. Does that make sense sense? They did a decent job of telling a story around Adam Cole.

FWIW, I thought the rest of the matches on the show were overall quite good.

Taping spoilers:

Spoiler: show
Fish and O'Reilly won the tag titles.

Gargano and Ohno had what was called "one of the best matches ever at Full Sail"

Aleister Black and Adam Cole (BayBay) had a match.

Johnny Gargano won a four way to become #1 contender, presumably at the Rumble Takeover.  Perhaps he wins to set up Gargano/Ciampa at the Mania Takeover.

Gargano/Ohno was a hell of a match.  Told a good story of Johnny finally putting it all together.

Almas shouldn't do promos in English.  Just let Zelina do her Heyman and maybe yell in Spanish.  El Idolo is a good name, though.

I was actually impressed with Lars Sullivan's promo.

I like that NXT is trying different things with backstage promos too.

Knowing how Hunter is all about "serious wrestling" especially after hearing Jimmy Jacobs interview on Jericho's Podcast I wonder if we will ever get New Japan style pressers after matches/shows?
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

https://www.f4wonline.com/wwe-news/wwe-nxt-averages-841000-viewers-usa-network-episode-247966

Quote
Given the value of wrestling programming, that's not a number that would seem to make USA try to add it to the package regularly since Tough Enough did better numbers and wasn't renewed, though the 55-minute episode of NXT did air at 7 p.m. Eastern time instead of what is traditionally considered prime time for television.

NXT did a 0.27 rating in the 18-49 demo for the episode, which was 22nd for the night on cable in terms of original programming. The only other USA show to rank was the season three finale of Mr. Robot, with that averaging 454,000 viewers and doing a 0.19 rating in the demo.

The problem more than anything is WWE doesn't attract quality advertising.

I think most would agree that as enjoyable as NXT is (and still always my favorite weekly show), something had just seemed off since really the large quantity of call ups in 2016.

I really feel like War Games was kinda the start of the new era and personally think the show is starting to get some of its aura back again.

Really like how they set up Gargano's promo this week.  It felt spontaneous and came across as Johnny finally having enough of Vega's bullshit and deciding to pour everything out to fire himself and the crowd up but, in putting his shot up against Dream, showing that his emotions still get the best of him leading to questionable decisions like putting his title shot on the line to prove himself.  Apparently that match is fucking great too.

Next faction being tested on NXT tour shows (sounds like a heel group as they have been targeting Sanity)..

Spoiler: show
A new faction is being tested in NXT at non-televised live events, involving Chad Lail, Steve Cutler, Wesley Blake, and Lacey Evans. Three of these individuals – Lail, Cutler, and Evans – have one thing in common: they’re all former members of the United States Marine Corps. Lail, formerly known as Gunner in Impact Wrestling, served in the USMC as a machine gunner and was a lance corporal before transitioning to professional wrestling. Steve Cutler served in the Marines between 2007 and 2011 and served two tours in Afghanistan. Evans was a member of the Marine Corps Special Reaction Team and served in the Corps for five years after she enlisted at the age of 19.

Or does Ciampa follow Gargano to 205 Live in an attempt to boost viewership of that show?

They had "scheduling issues" with Full Sail.  They're taping the last episodes up to Takeover back in Florida in March.  Hopefully the Full Sail crowd remembered you're supposed to react to stuff when you go to a wrestling show.

Gargano/Ciampa needs to main event Takeover even if there's no title involved.  It's their money match right now.
