How far back does the WWE tape library go, roughly? I've always been curious.
They've released matches from the early '50s at least, and I believe there is older stuff in their vault. Realistically WWE has stuff from as long as wrestling has been filmed.

What memorable matches/angles was Dennis Stamp involved in? He's become a punchline for the better part of the last 20 years that I'm curious about what kind of star he was.
Regional star in Amarillo. His most notable feud was probably trading the Brass Knuckles title back and forth with Dory Funk Jr. in 1976. He wasn't a great star but he was a solid wrestler.

That would explain why he refers to Terry Funk as "Dory" during the side interview in Beyond The Mat.

At one point Slaugher said that the WWF actually DID want him to burn the flag, but he refused.  Maybe that has since been debunked, but that was supposedly why they went with the Hogan shirt

Just saw this for the first time. We've all seen Saba Simba's debut with "HEY THAT'S TONY ATLAS" but I wasn't aware of this match where Vince directly says that Simba used to wrestle in the WWF as Tony Atlas, so that pretty much confirms for me what I've long suspected which is that Piper was told to say that and it wasn't the "shoot comment" it has long been talked up as.

"The Doctor of Style and Akeem with us, gentlemen I wonder what you think about another African-American joining the WWF." Oh man

"So what you're saying is Saba Simba is now reverting back to his savage ways." OH MAN

Why did they book the finish of the 1992 Royal Rumble the way they did? Specifically, why weren't Hogan and Sid's roles reversed so that Hogan tosses Sid from behind, and then Sid can react just like Hogan did, as if he'd been cheated, and then logically progress into his heel turn by pulling him out?

I guess the actual finish was consistent with Hogan's sore loser mentality that seemed to pop up whenever he lost to heels, also seen at the 89 Rumble. But even Gorilla makes it a point to ask why Hogan is upset. And the crowd is on Sid's side, which isn't a great start to their program.

Was it just tone deafness, where they thought eliminating Hogan was the equivalent to a heel turn?

They (meaning Vince and/or Hogan) probably just didn't want Flair eliminating Hogan to end it.

That's dumb, given what they were building to, and Hogan would have actually been cheated... but I can definitely believe it.

Bret Hart assaulting McMahon at the announce table on 7/21/1997 is one of the most insane WWF moments of the year. I remember the talk/head slap but the grabbing the shirt/McMahon trying to drag Bret over the table is legit bonkers for the era.

Flipping Sid and Hogan’s roles in the finish of the ‘92 Rumble would’ve definitely made more sense. I think WWE realized they screwed up, too, because for promos leading up to WM8, they had an altered clip of the finish with new commentary from Monsoon trying to hammer home that Sid was cowardly for sneaking up on Hogan from behind, which, I mean...come on. It’s a Rumble.

I have no idea why, but I decided to rewatch Triple H-Scott Steiner from the ‘03 Rumble for the first time since I saw it live. The match....wasn’t as terrible as I remembered?

Yeah, Steiner botched one of his suplexes and the DQ finish was lame, but I thought the story of the match was serviceable and at least Steiner diversified his suplexes way more than Lesnar does now. It wasn’t my favorite match or anything, but it also wasn’t nearly the disaster I remembered it being.

What was the first instance of "tapping out" in a major US fed? The first one I can recall off the top of my head was Bret Hart tapping out to Ken Shamrock in the summer of 1997 (ref was out so it didn't count).

IIRC, Taz started his "shootfighter" gimmick in 1996 and Heyman clearly knew about the UFC, so somewhere in there.

Does anyone know why Ric Flair didn't wrestle on the SummerSlam '92 card?

Would've been odd to have him in a midcard filler squash but it just seemed odder that they couldn't fit their top heel at the time one of the biggest cards of all time up to that point.

He did have a reoccuring tag situation with Dibiase against Virgil/El Matador. Not much of an extension to have that stable form.

Damn. Now I wish we could've seen Flair sell the Cranium Crunch. RIP Crush.

Weird thing about Flair missing SummerSlam is he won the title back from Savage three days later so he couldn't have been that banged up.

Was Andre always going to get a "gold watch" tag title run? IOW, was the decision to take the titles off of the Brain Busters made before or after Tully got popped? And, if Tully doesn't get popped, when do Demolition get the belts back? Do the Busters hold them until Wrestlemania?

It just seems weird to me that Demolition lost the belts to a team from a stable, won them back, and then immediately lost them again to a different team from the same stable. To me, it would be like if they'd had the Hart Foundation drop the belts to Rhythm and Blues, win them back, and then lose them to the Nasty Boys.

I forgot which thread it was in about Slaughter thinking Hogan was going turn heel and they were going to wrestle for the WWF Championship. Anyway, it made me want to go back and watch Wrestlemania VII. Their match is a lot better than I remember it being. I think Slaughter should have bladed during the match. There were several opportunities he could have done it.

Here's my review of WrestleMania VIII.

One of my favorite aspects is that the Piper/Bret face to face is almost literally (with some small changes) a repeat of a promo they did together on another show, I want to say WWF Superstars maybe? Yet the intensity is just as hot and really sets up the ensuing match anyway.

Fake Edit: It happened on 3-12-92 and may have been Wrestling Challenge judging by the banner

I watched one of the Undertaker collections on the Network. It goes through his original run to his WWF Championship win at Wrestlemania 13. Most of the stuff has been released on DVD but there was a random Owen Hart/Taker match where Owen gets the jumping tombstone treatment.

I saw Sid/Taker again and I don't hate it like before. If I watch it again, I'll probably won't like it. I was thinking that Mankind should have won the title from Bret and defended against Taker. They never had a Wrestlemania match together and it would have ended their feud that lasted an entire year. Sid/Taker really lack any type of heat and they just didn't click.

Now I remember what I really wanted to post. Foley was disappointed about their Survivor Series match. Taker gets lower down to the arena looking like a vampire. His new look is him wearing tight leather jumpsuit and he does a drop toe hold and cross armbreaker during the match. I thought BikerTaker was his midlife crisis.

funny in retrospect how Taker was labeled an "old guy" in the late 90s when he was only in his early 30s.  Big E is the same age now that Taker was in 1998 during the height of the attitude era

I've always viewed "old guys" in wrestling as akin to other sports e.g. less so the absolute age and more the in-ring experience. A guy who debuted at say age 23 and has been in the WWE for 12 years may be considered more of a "veteran" old guy than somebody who debuted at 27 but has only been wrestling for 5 years. I partly blame JR and the use of "young man" verbiage when describing talent in the ring.

Taker had been in the business for close to 15 years by the time the Attitude Era came around. He also looked a lot older and wrestled a very old school style. As the business changed, he was one of the few guys that carried over so he got the "old" label pretty quickly.

I also wondered why Taker reverted back to his original look for WM13. I know the commentators said something about him paying homage to his first title win over Hogan but it still seemed really out of left field.

According to Justin Roberts book, the Undertaker just felt like wearing grey.

Found it.  It's towards the end. Undertaker said he did it for nostalgia.

funny in retrospect how Taker was labeled an "old guy" in the late 90s when he was only in his early 30s.  Big E is the same age now that Taker was in 1998 during the height of the attitude era
Wasn't he legitimately one of the oldest guys on the roster, though? I always thought the average age during the Attitude era was in their mid/late 20s, with guys like Taker, Austin, and Foley being the outliers.

Revisionist history with Ric Flair and Harley Race.

Why did Gordon Solie (RIP) keep on saying at Starrcade that Flair became a 3-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion when it was only the 2nd time?

Same with the WWE saying that Race was an 8-time champion when he was only a 7-time champ?
