If Coker was doing this with the UFC in 2015, I'd have a problem with it.

That's why few were complaining when Dana popped record numbers out of not one, not two, but THREE completely predictable beatdowns of Ken by Tito. Everyone who knew anything about MMA knew Ken was gonna get smashed every time, though admittedly the first time people might have given him a 5-7% chance of winning the fight, as opposed to zero. And yes, Ken was over the hill even 12 years ago.

The UFC was struggling in 2002, so they put on this farce and look at the before/after buys. Not hard to predict when it spiked again:

Quote
01/11/2002    UFC 35    Pulver v. Penn    35,000
03/22/2002    UFC 36    Couture v. Barnett    55,000
05/10/2002    UFC 37    Lindland v. Bustamante    50,000
07/13/2002    UFC 38    Hughes v. Newton    45,000
09/27/2002    UFC 39    Couture v. Rodriguez    45,000
11/22/2002    UFC 40    Ortiz v. Shamrock    100,000
02/28/2003    UFC 41    Rodriguez v. Sylvia    60,000
04/25/2003    UFC 42    Hughes v. Sherk    35,000
06/06/2003    UFC 43    Couture v. Liddell    49,000
09/26/2003    UFC 44    Couture v. Ortiz    94,000

Then in 2006:

Quote
The two-hour broadcast drew a 3.1 overall rating, with the main event of Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock 3 drawing a 4.3 rating.[1] Quoting MMA Weekly's Ivan Trembow, "That breaks down to an amazing 5.7 million viewers for the Ortiz vs. Shamrock fight. This shatters the UFC's previous record for the number of people watching a UFC fight at any given time."[2]

If Dana could do it when he needed the boost, we can't shit on Coker for it. At least now Shamrock's getting guys he can actually beat.

Aside: Tito p. much carried that company during the dark ages and was a VERY big part of pushing it to the mainstream when they needed that boost the most. The way Dana disrespects him along with other fighters that helped build his business and this awesome sport, makes me sick.

I'm not sure exactly what you want Dana to do with Tito. It's not like Tito was the world's greatest employee and Dana just knocked him down and shit in his mouth.

And the double standard between the UFC and Coker/Bellator is ridiculous. If Bjorn booked the same fights, people would be reacting like I am. But somehow, Coker is this untouchable MMA promoter God.

It's not just Tito, he threw GSP under the bus too. How can any promoter dislike what GSP brought to the table?

I think it's cute that Angle believes with his history of injuries and surgeries that he'll get granted a license by any competent athletic comission.

So basically if he makes his debut it'll be in Texas.

2 fights.  Either he'll get the winner of Tito/Fedor (if that happens) or one of those guys and I think he takes a title fight this time around if its McGeary instead of Newton like before.

Court injunction was stayed, UFC signed him. Court injunction got reversed, now he's back in Bellator.

Not that this should shock anybody but it looks like the fix is in for Dada/Kimbo. A huge amount of offshore money came into Las Vegas oddsmakers on Dada and it brought the line up to almost even to the point where there are very few bookies out there offering odds on the fight anymore because they're afraid of how much money they'll lose.

I'll still throw a bet down on Kimbo. If the fix is in it would be on behalf of Dada, but Kimbo at these odds is great in a legit fight. I'm willing to take a chance.

Either way Bellator will benefit. Kimbo is more known but they'd market Dada exactly the same way if he wins.

I don't think events with these kinds of 'fights' and 'finishes' have lasting power. This carny shit can't sell forever, this isn't pro wrestling.

It does have staying power, but they can't do one of these shows more than once every four months. The other problem is that they have to support the freak show fights with legitimate talent in the other three televised fights and they didn't do that.

Coker said he isn't interested in a Gracie/Shamrock sequel. Those were one-fight deals, they probably won't fight for Bellator again.

I guess we'll get two or three of these freakshow fight cards a year. We'll see if Kurt's on tap for another one, at least you know Kimbo will be good for a couple each year for the next three.
