WWE Backlash 2017
« on: May 21, 2017, 06:25:54 AM »
Smackdown! Live presents WWE Backlash
May 21st, 2017
Live from Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois

Shinsuke Nakamura Vs Dolph Ziggler

WWE World Title Match
Randy Orton (c) Vs Jinder Mahal (with the Singh Brothers)

WWE United States Title Match
Kevin Owens (c) Vs AJ Styles

WWE Smackdown Tag Team Titles Match
The Usos (c) Vs Breezango

Six Woman Tag Team Match
Naomi, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch Vs The Welcoming Committee (with James Ellsworth)

Baron Corbin Vs Sami Zayn

Luke Harper Vs Erick Rowan

Pre-Show Kickoff Match
Tye Dillinger Vs Aidan English

Does anyone actually see World Title match closing show? I think there's 25% chance at best of it at happening. I don't see them closing with Jinder Vs Orton in front of one of the smarkiest, most rabid crowds in country. Especially with the other two main events having huge showstealer potential.

Also I haven't been following SD! Live too close but I can't believe I completely missed a Harper Vs Rowan feud!

I could see them putting Orton/Jinder in the middle while AJ/Owens closes. It also wouldn't surprise me if Nakamura's debut gets the main event with how high they are on him.

I'm expecting AJ-Owens to close, unless Jinder is winning the title in which case they'll want to put it on last so the crowd doesn't shit on everything that follows. I don't see Nakamura closing the show.

I expect Orton-Jinder to have great heat because nobody wants Jinder to win(der), but I can't help but feel like this isn't a one-PPV feud. I think Jinder is going to win by DQ to set up a rematch at MITB. I suppose Orton could win by DQ, but I just have a hunch.

I don't have high hopes for tonight's show to say the least.  Aside from Owens/AJ there is nothing here at all.  One of the weakest looking cards since the single brand PPVs of the last brand extension.

I dunno - I think Nakamura/Ziggler will at least be entertaining for the spectacle of the thing, and might end up being MOTN if Dolph is motivated by being in the ring with one of the best in the world. Usos/Breezango should be fun and Zayn/Corbin will almost certainly be good. Pretty dire on the whole, yeah, but there's spots for potential here and there.

Compared to Nakamura vs Sami that was brutal. NXT is all around better at hype and debuts.

Whoever booked that match knew exactly what they were doing. That was a fine piece of business, though I really would've preferred a Breezango win.

I like that Owens takes the time to walk around his face on the floor. It's the little things.

KO walking all the way around his giant face on the stage is tremendous.  Don't Tread on The Face of America.

It may be the hairstyle, but Owens looks trimmer.

I just scrubbed through two indy Steen/Styles matches and both ended with Styles flipping out of the cradle driver, hitting the Pele, and then the Clash. I'd be okay with that as a finish.

terrible match. Owens is a terrible worker who has given underwhelming performance after underwhelming performance at this point.

His in-ring psychology is awful, the first half of ever match is nothing but time killing headlocks then its time to do the same dumb spots he does every match that mean nothing. At least Shane's highspots mean something within the match context usually.

Easy worst match of the year candidate.

No way.  Not with the House of Horrors existing.  I mean it certainly wasn't good, but for something to be a Worst Match of the Year Candidate I think it needs to at least be in the same conversation of House of Horrors, otherwise it isn't really a true candidate.

I really hope this is a troll post, otherwise, WTF are you going on about? He's a great worker, one of the best going today. All the little things he does in matches are perfect. Shane a better worker? Give me a break. That was a very good match with a great finish, especially for KO's character. He doesn't care about how he wins, even by countout, plus it set up the rematch.

I think Owens is awesome at the little things, but the big things just seem to mean less and less. It seems like he gets his spots in regardless of flow. I like the guy, and won't say he's terrible or anything, but I totally can see the criticism.

it isnt a troll post at all. and there are countless better works in the business and the wwe than owens. His spots dont mean anything. Its the same problem Seth has but even worse.

I love everything KO does EXCEPT how his matches have five moves in every one which should be some kind of once every couple of years murderdeathkill move. The fisherman's neckbreaker thing or whatever where he drops a motherfucker on their neck on his knee happened like, halfway through the match. It's pretty much the epitome of every complaint people have about nothing meaning anything in a lot of matches anymore. It was still pretty good...

... but ultimate finisher-type moves being used as near falls which we've seen time and time again never produce a pinfall and are thus already stripped of their significance is so much dull visual noise after a while.
