I'll probably have to take my son to see this.

I honestly hated the first Jumanji and I'm getting a very Journey 2 vibe from this trailer.
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

Looks really dumb, but will probably watch on Netflix or cable years down the road like most Rock or Jack Black movies.

Has the Rock ever been in anything good?  There's nothing he's ever done that has made me want to pay money to see it in the theater.

I have a soft spot for The Rundown. His movies aren't super spectacular or anything, but 75% of them are watchable or entertaining hangover movies mostly because of him. Hercules, San Andreas, Central Intelligence, Faster, etc could've been awful but zip along due to The Rock's charisma and likability. I do think he could give a great performance in a serious movie if he wanted to but he loves doing popcorn fluff. Pain And Gain isn't a great movie, but Rock showed some serious acting chops in that to me.

The FATF series turned into the best possible GI Joe it could be with the Rock involved. I'm also seconding The Rundown, one of my favorite action flicks post-Ahnuld/Sly/JCVD glory days.

This also reminded me of a mix between Tropic Thunder and Journey 2. It could be decent and I'll probably wait until Netflix although the disparity between 'random teens hanging out b/c detention' and 'adult avatars clearly playing themselves as actors' was pretty glaring and bad IMO.

I do like the different concept from the first although I'm weary of them going more of an Indiana Jones/Nature route with it and not really exploring some of the dark/interesting stuff that the original movie referenced.

I've liked pretty much every movie I've seen that he's done tbh. Not saying they're classics but they're generally decent movies. He hasn't picked any great roles which is a problem but he's had some fun stuff. Pain and Gain was way better than it should have been for example.

He was in the Reno 911 movie for like 90 seconds. That was a pretty good movie.

He was the best part of Be Cool.

I think this looks like it could be a fun movie. I'll check it out eventually. I don't get to the theater a lot now, so it'll be a rental for me.

Seems like all posts about this ended up happening in the box office thread but this turned out to be quite the hit.

I didn't get around to see it but was blown away when watching TV today that there was a commercial letting people know you can buy it on digital now, get the Blu-ray on Tuesday and it is still in lots of theaters.  Been a long time since seeing a commercial advertising home media and theatrical at the same time.

It's really good. The 4 leads are all a lot of fun and the little nods they throw to old video games are pretty fun.

I was surprised at how much I liked it. First fifteen minutes were eh, but I had a blast once they entered the game. All four leads were great, but I thought Jack Black and Karen Gillan stole the movie.

Really good movie. What really made it work was the writing and the little details e.g. the NPCs repeating their lines, the different ways lives were used up, etc.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has just become the box office king for Sony as his movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle became Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing movie of all time.

With a domestic gross of $403,714,915, the movie surpassed Spider-Man which held the number one spot for Sony since 2002. Jumanji has a worldwide box office of $950,803,053 as of today and sits #2 behind Skyfall in the highest-grossing movie for Sony worldwide.

“Extraordinary box office run. Worked hard to produce something fun and heartfelt audiences could experience. Congrats to everyone involved and most important, thank you fans,” The Rock tweeted when the announcement was made.

Johnson is now busy promoting his next movie, Rampage, which comes out tomorrow.

It's so weird to me that Jumanji 2 is the movie to break this record. o_O

The film's appeal pretty much hit the sweet spot for mass audiences. Relatively okay for families to see (but not alienating to adults), enough set pieces for adventure/action movie fans, good word of mouth about the comedy, no real continuity knowledge necessary like in MCU/DCU picture, and a main cast that at worst is about 75% likable to most movie goers (apologies to Kevin Hart).

Just saw the Jumanji: The Next Level movie and it was a lot of fun too. If you liked the original one, you'll like this one a lot too.
