UFC 220
« on: December 07, 2017, 02:13:42 AM »
F4W:

Quote
After Francis Ngannou's highlight-reel knockout of Alistair Overeem at this past Saturday's UFC 218, it wasn't a case of 'if' but 'when' when it came to getting a shot at UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

On Wednesday night, we may have found out the 'when': Saturday, January 20th at UFC 220 in Boston, Mass., first reported by MMA Junkie and confirmed by MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani

Quote
The fight should headline a show with a co-main event of light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier vs. light heavyweight prospect Volkan Oezdemir who burst onto the scene this year with three wins, two by first round knockout.

Too quick of a turnaround for Ngannou or is he going the young Jon Jones route?

Lots of pressure on DC to re-legitimize himself.

What are the odds that this thread dies out and somebody starts a new one before the show happens?

I just added some questions for you to answer.

The board is dead, this will bump maybe 5 spots down in the next few weeks.

Francis took no damage in the Reem fight. It’s more a question about his body peaking again in a month turnaround.

Yeah, he called Stipe out post-fight.  I don't have a problem with the turnaround.

I think he would have been better off working on some skills in the meantime, mainly anti-grappling stuff. I guess he feels ready for this challenge though.

Stipe is gonna try so hard to treat this guy like Cain would but I have no idea if that will work. I think Curtis Blaydes is a better wrestler than Stipe, and he was only able to ground Ngannou twice only for Francis to get straight back up and beat the fuck out of him. It's a good strategy though.

I got Stipe getting knocked out early for trying to turn it into an ugly brawl.

Sounds like the UFC has stripped Conor and is expected to announce this weekend that Tony has been promoted to LW champion and is facing Khabib in April at the Brooklyn card.

May as well. I don’t think he returns for at least a year if it all. The guy has won four titles now and has never defended one. Dana supported him having a farce boxing match, where he made a fortune. No shock he’s in no hurry to get back to mma

Was it worth potentially losing their biggest draw just to get a piece of that boxing purse?  Long term, it may not have been the best move.

Cormier should win because Volkan is too unproven to bet on but the way DC seems to be treating this fight aka not seriously at all makes me want to put some coin down on MMA Cesaro.

Dana White on FS1: "Ngannou Took The Last Two Weeks Off To Go To France; Nobody Knew Why He Did It"

Also he wants DC to fight Stipe.

I loved Stipe snatching the belt from Dana. The ufc was pushing tonight as Ngannou’s coronation.

I love Cain but his body ain't ever gonna be right ever again. He's 35 and never makes it through training camp without having some kind of lingering problem. Stipe on the other hand rarely pulls out of fights or complains about being injured ever. I think Cain would get destroyed.

I've watched basically every PPV since 2007ish and I don't think I even knew the guy DC faced.

I'm far from agreeing with Dana here but at the end of the day fighters need to market themselves and Stipe just doesn't play the game. I love him, he's super relatable and seems like a genuinely nice guy but he's not out there to make a name for himself. He seems like he views fighting as a 9-5 job just like being a firefighter and after his shift is over he's not on the clock anymore.
