Spoiler: MLB Keeper League Rules/Settings • show

Fantasy Baseball League Rules

    A. Teams can select a maximum of EIGHT keepers of any position.

    B. Teams can choose to keep less than EIGHT keepers.

    C. All keepers must be turned in by November 1st or 1 day after the World Series is over at midnight Pacific Standard Time.

    D. Teams will lose a draft pick in the forthcoming draft corresponding to the round each of their keeper selections were drafted in.

(Example: Albert Pujols is chosen as a keeper and he was drafted in the first round of the previous draft. Team will not select a first round pick in the next draft because Pujols will be that team's guaranteed player for the first round in the draft.)

    E. If a team wants to keep an undrafted player as a keeper, than that undrafted player has the draft value and keeper designation in the following draft of a final round selection, Round 20.

(Example: If a team wants to keep three players chosen as undrafted free agents, then in the following draft these keepers will act as their draft picks in rounds 18, 19, and 20.)

    F. If a player chosen as a keeper was drafted by another team and acquired via trade or as a free agent, the team choosing the keeper will lose the corresponding round pick that the player was drafted in.

(Example A: If a team trades for Max Scherzer, who was drafted in round three, and wants him as a keeper then Scherzer will act as their third round draft pick in the following draft.)
(Example B: Matt Kemp is drafted in round three and then dropped, probably due to injury. Then another team picks him up out of the free agent player pool and declares him a keeper, the team keeping Kemp will have a draft value of Round 3 for the following draft not a Round 20 value like an undrafted free agent would.)

    G. If more than one keeper was drafted in the same round, than one of the keepers will be slotted in the following round. However his draft round value doesn't change. He is just slotted into the following round.

(Example: A team wants to keep Kemp and Scherzer, who was acquired via trade, and both players were selected in round three of the draft. In the following draft Kemp will be that teams keeper for round 3 and Scherzer for round 4.)

    H. Keepers can be kept for 3 years at their original draft value. After 3 years, if they have a draft value of round 11-20, their round value would have 5 rounds deducted from it. If the player has a draft round value of 1-10, than 3 rounds would be deducted from it. This would happen each year until the player would eventually be worth a first round draft pick.

(Example: Carlos Correa has a draft value of 18. Once three years are up, he would have a draft value to start the fourth season of 13. If kept for the fifth season, he would have a value of 8. If kept for a sixth season, he would have a value of 5. If kept for the seventh season, he would have a value of 2. If kept again, he would have a value of 1 and that value would remain constant until Correa is no longer kept.)

    I. Draft picks can be traded at any point during the season, off-season, and during the draft. The only stipulation is the amount of draft picks on each side of the trade must balance. If the trade occurrs DURING the fantasy regular season, at least 1 player must be included on each side of the draft to complete the transaction.

(Example: Team A trades Mike Trout and a 17th and 18th Round Draft Pick to Team B for John Lackey and a 1st and 2nd Round Draft Pick. This is a legal and draft pick balanced trade.)

Trading draft picks. Make sure if you trade a pick that you actually plan on having a draft pick in that spot to actually trade. If you trade a way a pick, then have a keeper that would slot in the same round penalties will ensue.

After keepers are locked on the final hard deadline, corrective measures will be taken by the commish to fufill the trade agreement as best as possible for the slighted party.

First corrective action. If a manager traded for a draft pick in the round that he both had a keeper and traded his own draft pick away, his keeper will consume the pick he traded for and his original draft pick will be traded as agreed to.
Ex: Team A trades away their 10th round pick to Team B. Team A acquires Team C's 10th round pick. Team A keeps Ichiro at a Round 10 value. Team B will get the pick they originally agreed to with Team A. Team A will lose the pick they got from Team C via being consumed by Ichiro being kept.

Second corrective action. The next available draft pick in a  round with unkept player's will be used to fufill the traded pick requirement.  The available pick has to be in a round prior to the originally agreed upon traded pick. The first corrective action can be combined with the second corrective action to fufil a trade.
Ex. Team A trade's their 10th round pick to team B. Team A keep's Ichiro at a Round 10 value. Team A also has Justin Smoak kept at a Round 9 value. Team A does not have a player kept in Round 8. Team B will be given Team A's 8th round pick to fufil the trade agreement.

Third corrective action. After the hard keeper deadline, a trade may be needed to be made predraft to acquire a pick to fufil the prior trade. This is only an option in the event both the first and second corrective actions do not apply.

Fourth and final corrective action. In the event that no equal or better draft pick can be relinquished to fufil the trade it will be necessary to allow the team being shorted an agreed upon draft pick to take any kept player from the other team to fufil the trade. If one pick is unfulfilled, than one kept player can be taken. This is what it is. If the fourth corrective action has to be used, the offending manager will not be allowed to trade draft picks for one year, ending upon the completion of the following season's draft.

    J. After the Fantasy Championship matchup has ended, the trade deadline period will be lifted. Trading can again commence. Managers must post in the Fantasy Baseball thread any trade and both managers involved in the trade must confirm the trade is true before it is validiated.

    K. During the draft, a manager has 12 hours to complete a draft pick. The time starts immediately following the previous selection. This is subject to change at and after Round 10 if we are strating to run behind on time to complete the draft.

    L. If you draft a guy without stats for the prior regular season during the draft that is a Rookie BEFORE the Yahoo! player pool is posted, and he is not in the player pool by the END of the draft, you lose that player as a draft pick and any rights to that player AND will be forced to select someone from the remaining undrafted players ONCE the draft is completed.

    M. The winner of the Consolation playoff bracket will be awarded the prize of #1 Overall Draft pick. This prize is an additional draft pick. If you have a round 1 value keeer, it will still be slotted in round 1. If you have two or more round 1 value keepers, they will follow standard keeper rules of being stacked and slotted in subsequent rounds. If you have zero round 1 keepers, than you will have two picks in round one. You will have the first overall pick PLUS your regularly slotted draft pick based on end of regular season standings. As a result of this prize being an additional pick, you will automatically lose whatever your last draft pick in the draft would have been after the final keeper deadline has passed. Your last pick can not be a draft pick you acquired from another team, it has to be yours.

    N. New managers have two options to start their team. New managers are placed in order of first to express interest get first shot at potential exiting teams available as outlined in option B.

Option A: New managers can start fresh with a brand new team with no keepers. The managers will be entered in the early seeding draft lottery to determine draft pick seeding. They will be seeded before the team with the worst regular season record.

Option B: New managers have the option of taking over ownership of a team which has it's owner quit the league. By selecting this option, managers will have the draft seeding in which the previous owner would receive by its end of season standings placement, like all other managers. The players on that team would follow all preset keeper values that the previous manager had. Keepers will follow all previous rules and values. Essentially all that is happening to the pre-existing team is a change in ownership.

    O. These rules are subject to review and revision after the season is over and prior to the start of drafting at the discretion of the league and the commissioner.

I'm in and how long do I have to confirm keepers? Kind of hard with so many free agents out there (particularly whether to keep Arrieta).

It'll be a week or so into Feb for the deadline. I don't have a concrete date set yet.

Krankor, do you have my list of my players from my team? I'm debating on trying to sell some players as well as perhaps modifying my keeper situation.

I'm switching a keeper
I'm keeping Machado @ Rd 7 Y 6. Not keeping Corey Seager at Rd 20 Y3.

Seager is available for trade.

LMAO. Hey Steak. Congrats on getting Seager after I tried figuring out how to make it work. Paid me back for the dynasty trade.

I find it hilarious that we were doing these dealings. It is like the 3 of us have this trading clique. It isn't called FSK or something. We totally don't.

*sigh* I have no idea what I'm going to do after this season. I've got 3 3Bers (Jose will likely not play enough 2B) and from everything I've seen, I can't trade someone to get a necessary 2B from trade. Dammit.

We should have a few different people trickling in within the next week or so.

We're going to hold a small keeper mini-draft for the new managers prior to our main draft. It'll take place early Feb. Seems to be the fairest way to divide up the assets on the three vacant teams.

We'll either have 14 teams this year, or 16.

I want to join
BTW, welcome to the boards.

And to anyone who (re)joins, I'm willing to trade you a 3B, because I've got too many of them. Just so you know. Depending on what we can work out. Just know that I'm aiming for 2Bs, so one of those would be more appreciated.

Important League Dates Announcement!

Hard Keeper Deadline:
End of day Friday, Feb 2nd Eastern Time Zone
If MFer & Roy haven't made their selections by then, their team rosters will be added to the New Manager Mini-Draft. MFer & Roy will also then be treated as new teams and will be entered as participants in that mini-draft. No exceptions.

New Manager Mini-Draft:
February 4th to the 9th
I'll hold a quick lottery to determine order for the mini-draft. The draft will be serpentine. The first two rounds will have a 12 hour pick time limit, if a team hasn't picked by that point they will be skipped. If they miss both of their first round picks, they will be skipped for the remainder of the mini-draft. All remaining rounds will have an 8 hour time limit. If a team gets skipped they can make up their pick at anytime upon showing back up.
Suggestion to avoid missing your pick: Pre-rank the list of available Mini-Draft Players & Assets and send it to me. You will automatically get the first available person on your list and never have to worry about missing your pick.
It should be a no-brainer to just pre-rank and send me your list.
If the Mini-Draft is not done by the start of Saturday Feb 10th, managers that have sent me Pre-Rank lists will get their remaining keepers & assets filled via those lists. Anyone else may complete their keepers by posting the remaining keepers they desire on the 10th.

League Draft:
EDIT: February 15th.
The official draft grid will be in the first post of this thread. You can use yahoo to find available players in their player pool. If a player is listed as a keeper in the first post, he isn't available. I suggest using the find function on your browser and search a specific players name prior to posting him as a selection. You can also check the Yahoo free agent pool. That is updated, at least at the start of every round.

Yahoo typically opens their Baseball Leagues around mid Feb. So it's possible we may draft a few days without yahoo being open. Once open, I'll need to get all the new teams registered prior to removing keepers from the yahoo player pool.

In the event someone flakes out, and we end up with an odd number of teams, I'll have the flaked out team auto-draft the top available player in the yahoo player pool. They will first fill the best available starting lineup position they need to fill until a replacement manager can be found. Best available will be based on yahoo's player ranking numbers.

This list probably will increase with an additional 40 players if I don't get keepers from those other two teams.

Everything in the list below is draftable from the open teams, including the slot in which you will draft in for the main draft. Draft slots are somewhat fluid at the moment since the final number of teams the league will be is still up in the air. Obviously, only one slot is selectable per team.
There are also draft pick upgrades below as well since one of the exiting teams had a few of those. A team can have multiple of these on their roster.

Remember, after each player is what there value is. So if you decide to draft Ryan Braun he will then consume your Round 1 draft pick for this season since his keeper value is (Round 1 - Year 1). If you draft someone like Luke Weaver he will take up your Round 20 draft pick since his designated value is (Round 20 - Year 1).
You can draft multiple players with the identical keeper value.
Examples: If you draft multiple Round 1 players, they will consume your next available pick, Round 2. If you draft multiple Round 8 players they will consume your next available pick, Round 9. If you draft multiple Round 20 players, they will consume your previous available pick, Round 19.

Check back on the Feb 3rd to see if the list is updated. Again, feel free to pre-rank this list and send me a message with it, that way you get what you want without having to worry about drafting time limits.

The mini-draft grid has been created. It is in the first post of this thread. Mini-draft starts on Feb 4th when Daovir picks. Once he picks, the 12 hour time limits go into effect. The huge list of players & assets available in the mini-draft are listed below the draft grid. Only players from that list are available for the mini-draft. The purpose of the mini-draft is for the new managers to draft their keepers from the the players that were on the rosters of the four teams that needed new managers. If you have time, it's quicker to just pre-rank what you want and just send it to me and I will follow your list of best available. The round value listed after the player is what they will cost to you in terms of a draft pick to keep. You can see this in effect further down in the first post of this thread where the tentative league draft grid is located.

FYI, first four rounds of the new manager draft every pick gets a time limit. That way the two guys drafting on the ends don't get boned.

This is moving along well. We'll just stay with 12 hours per pick for the duration of this Keeper Draft.
