I wish it was back to 36,000 Old St. James Park had the best crowd, amazing fans and a great atmosphere. I was just a kid back in those days during the 90s, so it could just be nostalgia and a youngster's awe coming to mind, but it really seemed to be a louder crowd.

I just think now that the stadium is full of people who either grew up on Keegan football, or heard about it from their Dads or old tapes, and then had a bit of a fun ride with Bobby Robson. They never knew about the plight of the club in the 80s and early 90s, how it almost went down the to old 3rd and probably out of business.

This stuff happens to other clubs, but you wouldn't think so as Newcastle is the only club that makes a drama out of it.

Yeah, the atmosphere thing with new stadiums is very poor. Pride Park is gorgeous but it will never have the atmosphere the Baseball Ground had. I went to Martin Taylor's testimonial a few years ago (Goalkeeping local legend) at the Baseball Ground.. There was more atmosphere at that than any Pride Park game, which is a shame.

1-1 isn't a bad result for Porto, cos they're real beasts to beat at home.

Apparently, Spurs new stadium is going to be the closest fans can get to the pitch, Sivy.

United are pushing them, here.

Gary Neville looks more and more like Franck Ribery every day.

At least Ribery can blame a car crash....what's Neville's excuse?

Remember a few years back when Scholes' career was almost cut short due to his strange double vision? I'm glad it didn't end like that for him.

The hatred is twisting him into an ugly bastard every day - Gary Neville is one player I wouldn't mind if he had retired due to injury, there's not many players out there I'd wish that upon (Roy Keane was the only other one). He's a right twat.

lol. funny thing is utd have been linked with ribery.

I just read Mark Noble and James Tompkins have signed new contracts at West Ham. That's great for us. Hey, maybe if Tompkins lives up to the hype he can go play for Chelsea one day! What a thrill that will be for him!  ::)

I didn't get to see him play at Derby, how was he Adam? I've liked what little I've seen of him thus far for us. And he's English!

I must admit I can't really tell you much Cookie. He only played a handful of games as he only joined on a months loan, I remember his debut was a 3-0 defeat though. I do know Zola recalled him though, so he must have some decent future if Zola wanted him back at the club.

Still.. Wasn't as bad a debut as a certain Jonathan Woodgate..

For those of you who don't know what i'm talking about, i'll explain, but only because I LOVE reminiscing about this.

Woodgate left Newcastle and joined Real for £13.4m in 2004. He wasn't fit, but Real thought he'd find his fitness quick enough. He never. Every time he came back to almost being fully fit, another injury would come up. Real fans started to believe Woodgate was genuinely cursed. He signed for Real Madrid in August of 2004. He finally, finally made his debut for Real in September 2005. Some thirteen months after being signed with a slight injury.

Well, after Real had paid his wages for 17 months without him doing a single thing.. He finally takes to the field for his debut match, at home to Athletic Bilbao.

So what happened? Well, the day didn't start off well.. He was booked early on. Not to be outdone, he then proceeded to score a quite spectacular own goal. Again, not to be outdone, later in the game he picked up a second yellow and was sent off.

The best bit?

The entire crowd rose to their feet to applaud Woodgate as he left the field, with not a single clap in jest. The Madrid fans knew they had somebody who was commited.

He was soon shipped back to England.

Here's something from Wiki:

In July 2007, Woodgate was voted the worst signing of the 21st century by users of the website of Spain's leading sports daily, Diario Marca. The 27-year-old was the runaway winner polling 37.11 percent of the votes cast.[6]

I've always hated Woodgate. First he starts at Leeds, which is already a strike against him. Then he was found out to be a racist. Then he was dating Kate, the Big Brother winner, who I thought was the hottest girl on the planet for a good two years or so. Then he actually thought moving to Real Madrid was a good idea. Now he's at Tottenham which is somehow the icing on the shit cake of his career.

HA.

Woodgate was very unfortunate with injuries. Many people have called him Englands finest centre-half when he's fit. I certainly wouldn't disagree. Some people just have bad luck. As for the racism and playing for Leeds...

Well, some people do stupid things when they're young.

Yeah, maybe Chris has fond memories of him at Newcastle in those, what 20-25 games? (looked at wikipedia - 28)  There (and to a lesser extent at Boro) were his finest hours. I wouldn't argue that he's good when he's on. I'm sure he has a lot to talk about with Ledley King. (Like which physio is the best, etc.)

Statistically I don't think we ever lost a game Woodgate played in, or it was somethings stupid like we had only lost 5. Our defense conceded less goals when he played too. Sadly, as you've mentioned, he played a handful of games and then we sold him. Real Madrid had the last laugh though, as they then sold us Michael Owen...

This seems like a really strange thing for an Englishman to say, but a season ticket I occasionally get to use to watch Bath play rugby and watching some footy on the tv has made me realise that I actually enjoy watching team sports.

What games are coming up?
met this fat girl (not a huge whale or anything but like 25-26 BMI) at a club in like,,, 2008....shes cool, not my type but giant hooters....we start drinkin gettin real faded, and she takes me out to her car to smoke some dro.....im high as fuck and point blank shes just like "hey man i am down to blow you........" im like whatever and we try but my dick wasnt workin cuz i was so faded and this fuckin weed she had was like....fuck i just couldnt get my head in the game..but im rico suave and i get her digits and she texts me her address the next day and says "come over to get ur cock sucked and blow a load in my perm"

so i roll up and her roommate answers the door, i ask if her roomies around and she says "oh....she DIED TEN YEARS AGO THIS VERY DAY...."

Football games? Not much in Europe and England as we're drawing towards the end of the season (May) - however, what is coming up is the climax of the season. Various domestic Finals (FA Cup, Play off places) and European Cup Finals (UEFA, Champions League) are all being fought over at the moment.

Likewise clubs battling for league titles and fight against promotion are starting to sweat it out as less and less games remain to get the points they need.

What I've tried to do so far is post up the matches of the week/mid week so people are aware of what's going on if they just scan the forum and aren't sure where to start. I'll see about adding more European League fixtures (Spanish, Italian, etc) instead of just English Premier League and European Cups.
