That is really an awful clip. People can like what they want and all that but that was dumb as fuck.

That was a dumb clip but everyone there seemed to love it so as harmless, midcard fodder, I see no problem with it. Not like these dudes were fighting for the world title.

Jim Cornette simply can't help himself. It's too difficult for him to just say "I don't like this" without turning it into a crusade against the person who is doing the thing he doesn't like.

He's right that it's dumb but why does he need to go after the guy with a fury as if he murdered his parents or something equivalent? Dude clearly has some fucked up anger issues and should probably check himself into a 12 step.

That's his gimmick though. It's how he gets fans/listeners. I'm sure he's really like "that's dumb, but whatever" but him being a cranky old man is what gets him acknowledged.

it also gets these guys more attention then they would get otherwise. I can safely say I'd never hear about or watch anything with that fat dude if it wasn't for this Cornette thread. Cornette is for sure a bitter angry man but he plays it up at least a bit.

So is the clip that gave Corny a conniption the "dive"? If so, it's dumb, but I can think of dumber things from Memphis.

This thread typically only gets pulled up for a lot of the craziness but Cornette did have very positive things to say about modern wrestling not too far.  He had really great things to say about Takeover Cardiff and many of the talents that worked that show.

Now onto this:

After seeing a few Back To The Territories recently, I don't mind Cornette in the slightest. Him talking to guys about the old days, learning what the places he or the guest never worked and how they functioned, and just general old school veteran bullshitting is exactly what I want from him. Get him and someone talking about wrestling from the dawn of history to 1996, and it's awesome. I have zero desire to ever hear him discuss the modern world.

Now if he'd only called Greg Gagne out on shit.

Is there any "major" US company that isn't owned/co-owned by a nut/scumbag? All the Japanese companies have some kind of ties to the Yakuza (and usually right-wing nationalist politics) as well. Welcome to Pro Wrestling.

Pretty much everyone who has worked with them, specifically in wrestling, has good things to say about them. They're trained, so it's not like they're just 2 guys who got in the ring. They were always professional behind the scenes. Say what you want about their music, but they've always been easy, and good to work with in wrestling.

AEW should run ICP vs Bucks.

Cornette's politics always surprise me, given that he's a hick who doesn't know when to shut up and being as liberal as he possibly can. That being said I don't care, especially since I thought everyone knew about Khan anyway.

Not sure of the dynamics of Louisville, but progressives tend to pop up in big cities where you actually have to interact with other cultures.  I mean Wisconsin is MAGA central except Madison and Milwaukee, the two dots where humans actually live.  Then the hillbillies get mad when they see the map with 2 blue dots being enough to out vote the pasture covered wasteland that the rest of the state lives in.

I'd be really into a breakdown, if one exists, of left-leaning politics covering at least the same scope SMW ran. Based on his politics, I see a lot of those shows much differently than they probably were. They get much more interesting with age. Maybe Corny ran a lot of satire and I never noticed.

I'm pretty sure that Tony Khan, who is actually running AEW, is liberal. Being from Jacksonville, I knew Shad Khan was a big Trump supporter in 2016 but he also was one of the first NFL owners to publicly state that his players could kneel during the anthem if they wanted to so it's not like he's a Trump lapdog. I feel like he's tried to distance himself since the election and we'll see if he donates to the re-election, which OF COURSE, Vince and Linda have already donated to.

I think Corny said in one of his 3000 shoots or 9000 podcasts that he was not into politics until W. Bush murdered Corny's 401K.

Of course a one-minute clip that autoplays on Twitter is going to have more views than an hour-long YouTube video that people have to seek out. Nobody actually watches the show that Joey Ryan is on either.

NWA had to be Cornette's last bridge to burn, yes? If ever there was a company suited to his needs. That was it...old school mindset, dumb libertarian owner....and he STILL burned a bridge there in like under two months.

Unless ROH is dumb enough to take him back which...you know, fuck...

Cornette still occasionally does work for WWE so I can definitely see them taking him back full-time albeit in a much more subdued role.

Yeah, that's the problem with shitting on every young wrestler to come up in the game. At a certain point the entire front line is gonna be people you shit on and the friends of people you've shit on and now you're unemployable.

Corny has come around on quite a few new talents.  Omega, the Bucks, Marko and Janella are his go to attacks now, with Jelly getting the most heat since he is fighting back online.

Anxious to hear today's rant.

He’s really high on Quen more than the team itself but believes Quen has the ability to be a top star if he went solo.

Quote
In an interview with TMZ.com, Mark Henry discussed Jim Cornette resigning from the NWA. For those of you that missed it, here is what Cornette said during the NWA Powerrr broadcast:

"He [Trevor Murdoch] is the only man I’ve ever known that can strap a bucket of fried chicken on his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia."

Here was Henry's response:

“I would say, ‘Jim … please apologize, and mean it. And if you don’t mean it, then go all the way Darth Vader and tell I just don’t like black people.'”

“At least I know who you are. And, then I can get rid of this feeling that I have in my heart. It’s like having your mother or father disown you. I feel like a sense of mourning.”

"Prior to all of this, the relationship that I had with Jim Cornette has been really, really good. He taught me a lot about pro wrestling. He allowed me into his home to look at his archive. He helped me to be the wrestler that I became. And, I probably wouldn’t have been the guy without him."

"But, it is very, very hurtful. And, I don’t get emotional about much, but I feel a sense of loss."

Listening to the Experience now.  He basically says it's a 30 yr old joke about mass starvation in Ethiopia that he used to describe Big Bubba and he recycled it.  He didn't mean it in a racist way, but he understands how people could take it that way.

He also says he's heard from lots of people who think it was hilarious.  Well, yes Jim, these are your southern fried redneck fanbase who wish it was simpler times where people worked the headlock and casual racism was old hat

I'm sorry, but he's too smart of a guy to not understand why a fried chicken joke about starving black people might just be taken the wrong way.  You probably shouldn't have said it 30 years ago in the first place.
