Also a lot of UFC staff members were held at gunpoint and robbed yesterday - taking passports, credit cards, etc.

I’ve been watching Dern since she was a blue belt and I can confidently say now that the only reason she got so far in BJJ is because her dad made her train. Now she’s just chilling on the beach all day.

I don't understand the conversation going around saying that people shouldn't let this discount from her skill as a fighter. It absolutely should. Dern isn't Jon Jones in terms of talent level, there is a direct correlation in mma history between fighters being at their physical peak in terms of performance and fighters who slack off and how well they do inside the cage. This is hardly a shock to anybody who's paid attention to her career that she missed weight, there's a reason you don't see fighters with a huge ass and big titties at 115, she was never going to make that class on a consistent basis.

Also outside of Kelleher/Linekar and Kelvin/Jacare this card blows. It might end up being fun but on paper it's pretty rough. One would think that with their WME connections in place they would have put Amanda and Rocky on the media circuit talking up the LGBTQ angle but nooooooooope.

This is one of the only cards ever that I've seen literally zero promotion for.

This is one of those undercards that is used more then anything to trim the fat. I think Oleksiy is the only ranked guy on the entire prelims.

Jim Rome was supposed to have Nunes on this week, something came up right before she was supposed to be on and it got kiboshed (unless I missed it) without explanation. Meanwhile he had Cody Garbrandt in studio no problem. Not sure if Nunes just didn't feel like it but she was given an opportunity on a pretty big radio show and no dice.

That's funny that you mention that, driving home from work my local Frickers sign said "UFC this Sat". And I thought that was pretty appropriate for this event...

I’m putting money down on ABC. She’s a 2 to 1 underdog last I checked and seems determined to put an ass whopping on Dern.

I almost did, but her TDD is terrible, Dern will weigh at least 20 more pounds and didn't even try to cut weight.

Hahahaha he got another Ezekiel choke.

It’s like a heavyweight version of Cody McKenzie.

I don't think I've ever seen someone look so sad after knocking a guy out like Machida just now.

I like ABC, but damn, getting pretty much KOed by a girl who only started kickboxing 2-years ago is bad.

Damn, gotta feel bad for Rocky there. Goes to her corner after the 4th round and tells them she wants out. Her coach then tells her to CHANGE HER MINDSET, sends her back out and she gets her face busted open and TKOed a minute later. Yikes.

Yeah, that disgusted me.  If your fighter is done, they're done.  Don't be selfish.  Now she could have suffered an even more serious injury.

I felt it was pretty classy for Nunes to call for the doctor immediately after winning, or at least that's what it looked like to me.

Maybe it's only because I've only ever cornered for amateurs but if anyone ever tells me they are done, im throwing the towel in.  It would have been different if she had gone out there and embarrassed herself but she hung in there, may have won the second round, and held her own until she got her nose busted.  At that point, she probably figured she could not win in the state she was in and wanted to think about her long term health.

Like people on that tweet said, it's never frowned upon submitting to chokeholds, but if someone gives up to strikes without being knocked unconscious it's somehow shameful.

I agree that wanting to quit doesn't make her less of a fighter. At the same time, I can understand the corner wanting to put her back in, she might just be feeling less confidence in that moment. Ultimately, Raquel herself agreed with the decision:

Quote
I am extremely proud of my lady. You are a warrior babe. Fought every second you possibly could. You continue to amaze me daily. You motivate me to work hard and one day too receive the same opportunity to fight for a UFC championship. We are the 1%ers. Very few will ever know what we go thru as fighters and an even smaller percentage will ever earn the chance to fight on such a big stage and for a world title. #RideOrDie #AlwaysProud PS: Both us and our coaches agree with the decision made to go into the 5th round. We know Raquel more than anyone else and know if we let her give up on herself going into the last round she would have always regretted it. She fought with heart and grit until the end.
PSS: Exactly one year ago today you asked me to marry you, I can't freaking wait to wife you! 💍 @raquel_pennington

The only upside for Cooper is she's in the UFC's good books for still taking the fight and will almost certainly get another chance, whereas had Dern made weight and she still lost she was looking at getting cut.

Seems like the edge is worth the 20%. Especially with a potential win bonus

Fighters who miss weight don't qualify for bonuses unless you mean their show/win money and even in that regards Tyron Woodley was doing the Fox panel for this event and he said he'd like to see win money disappear for fighters who don't make weight which I completely agree with. It would force fighters cutting insane amounts to move up and it would force lazy ones to smarten up.

I meant from win money. I totally agree with Woodley there.

As mentioned, piss poor promotion on this but not sure it would have helped much anyway.
