No cause has been given yet, but he's had some heart issues in recent years. The band also was known to party, including being the reason that the Stanley Cup wasn't loaned to players after winning it, so the cause probably won't be too big a surprise.

Pantera was the ultimate gateway band to heavy metal in the 90s, routinely taking lesser known acts on tour and flying the banner in the mainstream. When other acts, like Metallica and Slayer, toned down their style, Pantera only got heavier.

RIP Vinnie. Pound them skins and let Dime shred on.
Maybe the real deep state was the friends we made along the way.

Pantera did inspire some terrible bands and had a douchey fanbase, but I still like them and they had a some great songs. The Great Southern Treadkill was one of the albums that led me to checking out the heavier subgenres and that album still crushes.

This definately rules out any sort of reunion for the future. Vinnie will join his brother up in heaven.
