I hope they release the game times soon but I suspect they're waiting until after conclusion of the play-in games.

Edit: Braves are the late game each day through game 3. Wish we were earlier Sunday but this works for me on Thursday and Friday.

Whatever man, let's go! These Baby Braves don't know no better, they just win!

Cubs hitting coach should be fired. They were swinging at everything.

first time in 4 years the Cubs won't be in the NLCS.

Rockies/Brewers is like the most random playoff series of all time

I'd consider it a pretty big disappointment if the Dodgers don't make it back to the World Series.  They are the best team left

Chili Davis sucks as the hitting coach. Cubs haven't been able to hit for shit all year. I fully expected them to lose to whoever they faced today. Glad this shit show of a season is over.

Rockies-Braves were an Opening Day matchup so it would be interesting to see that be the NLCS, though I doubt it happens that way.

Think Chili was with Boston when Theo was there, so makes sense all the Sox transplants that they bring to Chicago.

I've been saying this for the last couple months. Chili Davis is awful and I imagine he gets fired pronto. They had a better team on paper than last year, but their approach at the plate is garbage. Starting pitching was fantastic. I'm excited to see how they retool  for 2019. I wonder if they explore any trades. I could also see them being willing to spend on a Harper or Machado. I imagine the focus will be on improving the offense.

He was only with Boston as a hitting coach from 2015-2017 when Theo was already in Chicago.

The Cubs' biggest mistake was probably getting into a position where Terrence Gore hit twice.

That's what I was saying in the chat. Maddon made a few "genius" moves that didn't really pan out. Like saving Schwarber to hit later when the bases were loaded and sending Heyward out there instead.

Lots of fans are calling for Maddon's firing. I think it's kind of dumb. He makes some mistakes and can be infuriating, but I don't think someone like David Ross (seriously, that's what the fans that want Maddon fired want) or Joe Girardi would do any better. The Cubs winning a world series and having four straight post season appearances under him is a great resume. I say let him ride out the last year of his contract and see what happens.

Losing back-to-back play-in games at home has to be a new mark in futility, right?

Looking back over the season it is crazy how it looked like the NL Central would dominate the playoff picture, with the two non-division winners most likely making the play-in game and guaranteeing two Central teams in the playoffs, and just like that now only the Brewers are left

I don't know if Maddon deserves to get fired as I didn't really watch too much Cubs this year but I do think he's been greatly exposed during his Cubs tenure.  He was a darling with Tampa for overachieving with that team but the Rays still continue to overachieve without him.

On the other hand, even when the Cubs won the World Series, I feel Francona outmanaged Maddon in that series.  Look at the talent on that Indians team versus the roster of that Cubs team and the end result may have been different if not for that rain delay.

That being said, even though his stock has dropped in my eyes a bit, it still takes a certainly type of person to manage all the big money personalities that the Cubs bring in now and I don't really know who they would get to be better if they axed him at this point.

I remember Francona making some blunders too. I remember thinking both managers were trying to lose the series at certain points. I don't think any manager is perfect, but I'm still riding with Maddon at least for another year. And, as you said Maddon is great at managing all the guys in the clubhouse and all the players seem to love him. You can do much worse than Joe Maddon as the bevy of Cubs managers before him showed.

Regarding Maddon, I think except in extreme circumstances it doesn't pay to dismiss a manager after one disappointing game. I don't even think there's really a managerial blunder you can pin this on. I mentioned Gore but without him the Cubs lose in nine innings instead of thirteen. The team as a whole hit 6 for 43 with one extra base hit. No manager can win with that. I was going to mention losing Addison Russell but Maddon's handling of that situation was terrible, so I have no sympathy there. As far as Chili Davis, the nature of hitting in baseball is changing so fast I can hardly keep up with it, let alone evaluate a hitting coach. The Cubs finished fourth in runs scored, it could be worse.

Tonight, any bets on whether Zack Britton comes out of the bullpen this time?

What a no show by the A's.

And you know the league is creaming  itself with this Yankees/Red Sox series.  Weird having them face in the 1st round though

Hopefully everyone is ready for four and a half hour playoff games again.  If Sale is still throwing low-90s "heat" in game 1 and Price steps foot on the mound at Yankee Stadium at any point this series could get ugly fast.

How did this team win 108 games with a bullpen this bad?

And now the goddamn game 3 starter is warming because apparently there's no confidence in any of the relievers.

Brasier's been their best bullpen reliever, by a huge margin, aside from Kimbrel. Outside of that it's been Hector Velasquez (138 ERA+), Brandon Workman (135 ERA+), and Bobby Poyner (137 ERA+). The former two have been spot starters so that's also dealt a bit of a blow.

When on, Barnes and Hembree are lights out but they walk a lot of guys (58 BB in 121.1 combined IP).

If the Red Sox win this series, it's gonna be on the strength of the hitters and the SP going 7 IP with glue riding to Kimbrel in the 9th.

Houston is a fucking buzzsaw.  They have to be the favorites to repeat right now.  They have the bullpen Boston doesn't and starters the Yankees don't along with an offense that can match them both.

We'll never know if other teams can draw better ratings than Yankees/Red Sox if nobody except Yankees/Red Sox get prime time games.  That's like saying "Roman Reigns is the top merchandise seller" when 60% of the merchandise available is Roman Reigns merchandise.

These TBS guys ran out of things to say halfway through the 4th.  Too bad we didn't get the 2007 NESN reunion with Orscillo, Eck and Hazel Mae the other series got.  Who the fuck can tolerate Ron Darling's "analysis"?

I'd put Price in there just so they're not tempted to use him the rest of the series.

MY CLIENT BROCK HOLT

The first postseason cycle ever?  That can't be right.
It's the first. The cycle is about as rare as a no-hitter, which has only happened twice in postseason history.

Cycle: 1 (Brock Holt)
1B, 2B, 3B (no home run): 27 times
1B, 2B, HR (no triple): 115 times
1B, 3B, HR (no double): 12 times
2B, 3B, HR (no single): 3 times

Holt's ten total bases rank eighteenth all time in a postseason game. Albert Pujols and Bob Robertson (1971 Pirates) share the record with 14.

So this might lead to David Price: game 5 starter if things go bad.  This is a big gamble by Cora.
