Can't beat watching a game 7 when your team isn't involved.

I don't know how common it is, but it's kinda cool that both Series teams are managed by guys who played for the team they are facing (Cora playing the first half of his career in LA and Roberts of course on the Red Sox in 2004).  Also, this is a fairly fresh matchup even for the interleague era because I can't think of many series they've played against each other (EDIT: They've played 15 games and the Sox won 8 and LA 7.)

Sox in 6.

Both are big market teams, but Dodgers/Red Sox is a fresh matchup. They only met once in the World Series, and that was 102 years ago.

Interestingly, these teams almost met in the 1946 World Series. The Cardinals beat the Dodgers in a tiebreaker. But the programs were ready.

Crazy stat? Boston (obviously) went from 1919 to 2004 before winning a World Series again.

From 2004-2018, just 15 seasons, they now have a chance to win their 4th World Series of the stretch.

This is the century when the Sox catch up to the Yankees.

When I was in New York like a decade ago, I was waiting online to go up the Empire State Building. This guy had a shirt on that said you have five rings we have twenty seven for the Sox and Yankees.

(Please note: the number of rings might be off.)

That's a common sight at AAA games here. It's funny that they need to keep adding Red Sox rings to make it accurate.

Cora has the touch.

After the TBS crew I had to mute and put the radio call on for, I have a new appreciation for Joe Buck and John Smoltz is pretty decent (fucking better than Darling at the very least).

Until Nunez broke it open, this was a pretty damn good game.  This series is gonna give me an ulcer.

Maybe recency bias, but the Red Sox look damn near unbeatable.

If they win the series, especially in four or five, they will assuredly rate among the greatest teams of all time.

Sox seemed really special early this year where I thought there was a strong chance but growing up in the period where they never won, I always am pessimistic.  Plus stuff like Kimbrel’s erratic nature scares me.  I was most worried about Houston so when they got through Houston as quickly as they did, I wasn’t as concerned about whoever came out of the NL.

Wouldn't they end up with the third most wins ever if they take it? I thought I heard that stat on ESPN in passing one day.

Yeah. Behind the ‘98 Yankees and the 2001 Mariners. Given the longer season and expanded playoffs I would take that with a grain of salt. But I do think they’re facing significantly more difficult opposition than say the 1927 Yankees.

Puig seemed to be playing way too deep there.  I get trying to keep the ball from getting past you, but he was almost at the track.

This 2 out run binge is something else.

Seems like Cora thinks Eovaldi is more valuable to bolster the bullpen in this series than starting.  Can't really argue right now.

Put a position player on the mound. Dave Roberts won't know what to do because there's no stats for him.

I find it hilarious people are killing Roberts for using analytics when the Sox and Cora are also running games the same way.

There is using analytics and there's trusting your instincts. Cora does both and so does Bruce Bochy.

Also, I can't think of a team that doesn't use analytics. Everyone says they do but do they really.

The difference is that Dave Roberts used analytics to tell Puig to play on the warning track and it cost the Dodgers extremely badly in two straight games.

The Kansas City Royals in 1980 lost a game in part because manager Jim Frey had George Brett play in on Mike Schmidt. Managers have made mistakes positioning their fielders as long as there has been managers. With analytics you're playing the percentages and you're going to get burned sometimes. But that can happen no matter where you position your outfielders.

This game should be 1-1 but there's been some hideous base running mistakes by Boston tonight.  Vazquez should have had a double but he was jogging out of the box.

Bringing in closers for more than four outs just never seems to work for some reason.  Probably should have stuck with Buehler until someone got on.

Man, some really questionable decisions on the bases from both teams.  Kinsler just barely got a pinky in before the tag on that pickoff and then over slides third.

And there's like the fourth or fifth bad base running decision of the night.  Bellinger has a cannon.

This series has completely flipped.  Cora had way too quick a hook on Porcello (61 pitches?) and it ended up biting him in the ass.  Eovaldi (who would have probably been named MVP if Boston won last night) is probably unavailable until game 6 and the offense has disappeared (the top 4 hitters in Boston's lineup were something like 0-29).  Now Drew Pomeranz will probably pitch tonight and have to go at least 5 regardless of how many runs he surrenders.  That was a horribly managed game by Cora.

Edit: And fuck Ian Kinsler, but that should go without saying.

I still think Boston is the better team. There was some bad base running decisions early on that could have scored a run and they completely blew that bases loaded on a fair tipped ball.
